The Awakening of the Scribe: Part III

By Sailor Nena

I stepped into my house in pain. Slowly, I remembered what had happened earlier in the evening; I saw his face under the moonlight. I should have known it was he. How could I have been so blind? I felt a sharp pain on my back. I closed my eyes and saw the events unfold before me once again: "Where do you think you are going?" he asked with a smirk.

"Where you can't follow!" I was ready to disappear, but he grabbed my arm. I did a forward flip to put some distance between the two of us. I turn to see him, and he landed a kick in my ribs that propelled me against a nearby tree. This made me angry. I disappeared and reappeared right in front of him; I tried to punch him but he grabbed my arm and flipped me into the lake. I rose from the lake dripping wet and kicked him into the mud. I enjoyed it very much. He ran towards me with his fist stretched before him; I hardly dodged it: his fist brushed against my neck. He kept going until he fell into the water. "Better luck next time, Gemini." I turned and disappeared.

I went into my bathroom to shower and change into dry clothes. I had the strong erg to hurt him. I left the bathroom to find him standing in the middle of my room muddy, sweaty and with a grin on his face, which I did not like. "Sergio, what are you doing here? How did you get in?" I asked in shock.

"That’s not important. What is important is that we talk about tonight."

"Tonight? What about it?" Where was he going with this? What did he know?

"About what happened between you and me in the park, Morena, or should I call you Sailor Nena?"

"What are you talking about? Did you lose your mind when you decided to play with the mud? I didn’t see you in the park today!" I talked quickly and indignant. How did he know?

"You shouldn’t talk when you left your calling card there." He raised his right hand slowly carrying my nameplate. I reached to my neck and found it missing. "It fell into my hands when you dodged my last blow." I remain silent for a moment. I could not talk my way out of this one.

"Does this give you the right to come into my room and fill it with mud?"

"Sorry, but my wounded pride made me get revenge in a very childish way." He used his most sarcastic tone to say this.

"Clean it up." I said as I left the room. I gave him fifteen minutes to clean up and leave the same way he came in. When I came back, the room was clean, he was gone, and a white rose and my nameplate were lying on the bed with a card that read:

You are becoming a better and stronger fighter.

I wonder if you will be able to beat me as a human

~ Sergio

The fight had been another training session in his mind. The boy was crazy!

Astron stared at Kassandra. "Someone should remind her to cut her bangs." He thought as he noticed that her eyes lay hidden behind her hair. Kassandra was the baby of the group, and was subject to wear hand-me-downs, which would explain why she always wore ill-fitting clothes, but seeing her with his old pants, and an over grown shirt no one seem to figure out where she had found it, made him realize what a beauty she was becoming: her curves were hinted underneath her clothes. He had been alive for over thousands of years, and what made it all worth while was seeing ugly ducklings turn into swans, and Kassandra was his favorite type. She was subject to ridicule by the other members of the Negaverse, so she had very low self-confidence. Yes, she would be easy to seduce.

"As a representative of our great king, I must demand you explain your actions in your previous fight." He began sternly,

"I-I don’t understand. What did I do wrong? I-I-I know Sailor Moon stopped me, but I managed to get some energy." She never looked up. If a superior thought you where looking at him/her the wrong way, they reserved the right to hit, punch, and/or verbally abuse you. Kassandra knew this all to well, for everyone was her superior.

"You did not DRAIN those puny little brats of all their energy. You only took what they had to spare! I thought we had taught you right! Everyone outside the Negaverse does not DESERVE to keep their energy!"

"But they-they were children. I didn’t think…"

"That’s the problem Kassandra: you are supposed to think. What separates a true general from an average soldier is the ability to think on his, or in your case, her feet. Because I am not mistaken to think that you want to be a general, am I?"

"No sir." She whispered back. He touched her shoulder lightly.

"Good, I would hate to see such beauty go to waste." She blushed. She could not help being attracted to him; he was very handsome. He had large, dark, enchanting eyes and a scare on his right cheek. His black hair fell on his eyes, except for a rebel piece that fell between his eyes. He left it short on the sides, but had a ponytail at the base of his neck. He wore a black turtleneck with the pants of a general. He had been apprentice to the strongest General in Baryl’s army before she had replaced him with the four generals. Legend had it that he went into the walls of the icy Negaverse to inspire his followers and foil the plans of his enemies. Astron also had an earring, a golden hoop on his left ear, which enchanted Kassandra. She did not understand why, but she was drawn to it.

The next few weeks passed normally. There were no new attacks by the Negaverse, and slowly I began to remember what Jedite had taught me. After my daily lesson with Sergio, Serena and I would go to the temple, where we would meet up with our friends; this was my time to be the teacher:

"As I have mentioned in our previous session, our powers are inter-lanced. It is best to explain with an example." I said after I received 5 blank stares. "Jupiter, you control Mars’s power because thunder can cause fire, but everyone knows that thunder usually occurs when it is raining. And what is rain, but water, and who controls the tides, but the moon, and can any one deny that a full moon is a symbol for all lovers?"

"So, what you are saying is that we can all control each others power?" Amy asked.

"To a certain extent: no one will be able to control your power better than yourself, but in case one of us is missing, and the monster we are fitting requires to be fought with a certain power, anyone of us can produce it." I explained.

"Cool!" Jupiter exclaimed. "Can we eat my cookies now? They are getting cold.’

"Warm COOKIES! GI’ME!" Serena demanded.

"Oh Serena, GROW UP!" Rei demanded. Serena stuck her tongue out in retaliation, and Rei responded the same way.

"Will they ever get along?" Luna pleaded.

"Never have; never will!" I answered.

In a dark corner of the Negaverse, one of its most evil and dangerous agents knelt before a black fire. "Inferna, goddess of fire, I pray to thee, give me the power to rule the Negaverse." She chanted solemnly. She was a tall girl with black hair that fell caressing her neck. She wore a form fitting general’s uniform, for she believed that a woman should use all her assets. She had the classic hourglass figure and large black eyes with a hypnotic quality to them. She also wore earrings the shape of arrows. "Inferna, thou herest all prayers, answer mine NOW!" The flames rose violently into the air, and a woman, with pure white skin, light blue eyes and hair, wearing a red dress made of molten lave with fire making a V-shape on her breasts and forehead, stepped outside the fire. She was beautiful and enchanting.

"Deorosse, have you summoned me?"

"Yes, my goddess. I need your help."

"As you might know, I do not judge mortals or their causes, but I do help those who have been faithful to me. I have no complains from you Deorosse, whose name means eyes of darkness. What do you need?" Her voice was hard, but tender, like a mother’s.

"I need a plan to drain enough energy to release the Negaforce, and by succeeding where my half-brother and Kassandra have failed, become the King’s right hand. Once I have his total confidence, I plan to steel his rein."

"I do not judge your intentions. You have given me plenty of sacrifices and not worship any other elemental god; therefore I will help you. Here!" Two papers form in mid-air from a blaze of fire. "To your right is all the Negaverse plans that have succeeded, and to your left is all the plans that have not. Study these, for you will find your answer here."

"I understand! Thank you, all mighty goddess. May your rein be eternal, and your flame burn after the end of time."

"Keep your loyalty to me, and you shall continue to be rewarded."

"Now, try to understand, it is not that difficult, Serena." Darien encouraged as he continued to tutor her in biology. I was beginning to hold my own, but my mind was to over occupied with other things. You see, the book has been disappearing and when I finally find it, it has writing I do not understand. My mother had once explained that the book might write itself, if the Scribe is unable to attend the place where the events are unfolding. I wonder why I am not allowed to read them.

"O.K., I think I got it. Enzymes are proteins that denature in the human body at 40°C in the human body, but in other organisms they have different temperatures and pH’s." Serena recited back.

"Good, now lets work on the lock and key model." Darien yawned.

"Late night?" Serena teased.

"No, I went early to bed, but I seem to be very tired."

"Everybody is like that." Sergio stated as he signaled me for a break. "It must be the approaching winter."

"That explains the cold." Serena said as her lower lip began to tremble. "It is freezing in here."

"No, the temperature is fine. Right?" Sergio asked and we all nodded. Serena began to cough uncontrollably and gasp for air. Darien tried to calm her, but it was no use. She finally recovered her breath by fainting into Darien’s arms.

"How is she doctor?" Darien asked as soon as Dr. Liza Aniko was done examining her.

"She is very weak. I don’t understand why. It is as if someone was slowly draining her energy." She answered. Mina, Lita, Rei, and Amy arrived then.

"How is she?" They asked all at once.

"Stable." She answered as she pushed her glasses up.

Mina felt dizzy, and her vision began to fail. Before anyone could realize something was wrong, she was lying unconscious on the floor.

"YAHOOOO!" Someone screamed down the hall. "I lost a hundred pounds!"

"How rude!" Lita scream. Amy was flooded with nausea and proceeded to faint.

"Amy!" Rei screamed.

"What is going on here?" Sergio demanded.

"Fevers, very high fevers." Liza answered. "I’ll go get them some rooms and medicine." I walked out behind her.

"Doctor, care to try again?"

"Excuse me?"

"You don’t expect me to believe that lie about the fevers? What is really wrong?" I begged her to tell me. She looked around and then pulled me aside.

"You know that half of the girls’ DNA is human, and the other is alien. Well, think of the DNA as a person holding order forms, and the RNA as the person filling them out. When a certain protein needs to be made, the DNA tells the RNA the ingredients. The RNA goes into the ribosome and has the protein made. Some of the protein made by the alien DNA is the enzyme for telepathist. Since the alien DNA can make human and alien proteins, the cell is run more efficiently. Now, when there is not enough energy to go around, the two DNA’s begin to fight for control of the cell. They replicate until one outnumbers the other enough to excrete the rival DNA. The DNA that maintained the most control in all the body wins, but it does not end here. The victor DNA tries to eliminate all cells with foreign DNA, eventually killing the patient."

"Are you saying that my friends are going to die?"

"Not if I can find a way to keep them from losing any more energy."

"Can you?"

"I don’t know."

"Lita!" Rei screamed from the room.

"We are dropping like flies." I said as I say Rei kneeling over Lita’s body.
