Gotham City Poetry
This section of poetry will kind of be a catch all page concerning all poetry that deals with Gotham City and the world of Batman in general.
"Batman's Keep" by Locust Lord
Twas a dark and stormy night,
In Gotham City shone no light,
The electricity had all gone out,
And terrible things were running all about.
The citizens all stayed in bed,
Hoping this night would end,
Shivering with fear and dread,
Of monsters who would leave them dead.
But wait, what's that up in the sky?
A point of light way up high?
Outside there window's shone,
A sign of hope reknown.
The people sighed and rejoiced,
Their fears no longer needed to be voiced,
Up in the sky shown the Bat Signal,
Proclaiming that the Batman is on vigil.
Any evil that roamed the street,
Would soon be snuffed out by Batman's feet,
And all the people laid back down to sleep,
At peace and knowing that Gotham City is Batman's Keep.
"Night of Knights" by Doctor Strange
Down from the darkness swings a line,
A grapnel with claws atop and handle behind,
And trailing at the last, himself, the Dark Knight
With senses attuned and eyes alight!
On his nightly patrol of Gotham's grim canyons and towers,
And the fetid dark places below, home to underworld powers.
In his belt: more grapnels, a Batknife, a rebreather,
A camera, a phone, bolos, and chemical sample retriever,
Bat-vehicle remote controls, gas pellets, and lockpicks,
Smoke bombs, Batropes, and all manner of gimmicks.
Dressed in gray, blue, and black, with an oval of yellow,
He drops to the street just behind a lithe fellow
Whose ponytail swings as dodges a rush
From surprised thugs who think that their mere bulk can crush
This finest of acrobats and unarmed fighting king,
The Batman's first partner, the mighty Nightwing!
The fight ends quickly, with the thugs tightly trussed
And left swinging from a streetlight, their hijack a bust,
As the two graceful figures take again to the air
Moving towards Police HQ, and the Bat-signal there.
A moment later they plummet down onto the roof,
And Gordon tries joking, but the Batman remains aloof.
But the news is bad: Arkham Asylum's been busted wide open
And all of Gotham's pyschos are in the streets, hopin'
That they'll take down the Bat and all of his friends,
And they'll own the whole city by the time the night ends.
Batman and Nightwing are gone before Gordon can tell,
Calling in Robin, Batgirl, and Alfred as well.
Together they'll confront the peril in Gotham City,
And render it safe for its hapless citizenry!
Like shadows they move, like demons they fight -
All four protectors of the Gotham night!
Hardly anyone knows that they've done it again,
As the villains are gathered to return to their pen.
But the Commissioner knows, and he thanks them once more -
As off into the bright rising sun they all soar...
Untitled Poem by O. Williams
As the remarkable sign appears in the Gotham skies
For all who knew it, it was an assuring sight.
For they new that they could always trust
That the Batman guards the night.
Atop a building he meets with Gothams finest
and learns of the wrongs the need to be right.
He leaves on a mission of carrying out justice
For the Batman must guard the night.
The evil doers are rejoicing aloud
as from the crime scene they make their flight.
They are gripped with fear as they see one lone figure
It was the Batman that guards the night.
Unwilling to be taken in for their crime
In futility they put up a fight
Only to be later found by police who know
That the Batman guards the night.
Inside their cell, a shadow passes across the
cell wall from the outside light.
They know their freedom is gone because they didn't suspect
That the Batman guards the night.
