Parts of Oh My Goddess! is based on Nordic mythology... mainly the goddesses ^_^. I'm not really sure where Belldandy comes from, but Skuld and Urd are two of the Norns, who are sorta like the Greek Fates (you know, sew, measure and cut the thread of life..). Peorth, on the other hand is one of the runic letters, so she doesn't really tie in anywhere into the mythology itself. The Yggdrasil System takes its name from the great tree Yggdrasil that holds up the universe.

Oh My Goddess! comes in 5 OAVs and the manga itself is still being published in English and Japanese (and there are a lot of manga ^_^;;). But, because Dark Horse likes to make it easy to collect back issues they've published 3 graphic novels since then (1-555-Goddess; Love Potion #9 and Sympathy for the Devil). Unfortunately, Dark Horse doesn't like to make actual sense when they publish graphic novels, so all back stuff is split up and rearranged and it gets kinda confoozling (altho Dark Horse says they've worked with Mr. Fujishima to make the novels flow in the most logical order they can). That's where the almighty comic store comes in! This' where.. if you're as crazy as Aidan.. you raid all your major comic stores for back issues. On the other hand, you can sometimes get a few really good deals if you look hard enough. I picked up almost all the issues I was missing and I got them at a discount coz Comics & Comix has a special thing where the older an issue is the more you get off on it (ahem, NorCal residents, that last bit of info was for you!). 'Course, if you're down in SoCal there's a few good stores right in the middle of LA, but never go down to Anaheim for your comics.. the people there are SCARY! Ahem.. also, if you're ever down in Dublin, OH, there used to be a quaint li'l store on Dublin Way. Unfortunately.. that was about 5 years ago, so I don't know if they're still there ^_^;;. There's good stuff in Boston and NY, NY too, and at almost every fairly reputable campus town (esp. ones with large Asian populations.. Davis for example..). So, in conclusion, you can find OMG and manga in general almost everywhere ^_^ And if you can't.. just call Dark Horse or pay a visit to Amazon.com ^-^
