Episode title: Rubeus Evens the Score

Dead yellow leaves fell as Rini stood on a small dock, overlooking a river. Her Luna Ball hovered by her. She said to herself,

"It can't be true!" She began to picture the time she saw Serena, Amy, Raye, Lita and Mina transform. She continued to herself,

"Serena is really Sailor Moon? And Raye and girls are the other Sailor Scouts! It just can't be true! But, I must believe what I see. The magic locket is the key! Serena really is Sailor Moon!"

Rini ran home. High in the sky, Rubeus' invisible fortress glimmered for a moment.

Rubeus was looking through a window in the side of his fortress that showed all of Tokyo.

"Rini." He said to himself. "I must destroy that wretched kid and retrieve the Silver Crystal!"

Suddenly, behind Rubeus, each of the mirrors, once belonging to the Four Sisters, shone, and a shrill laugh filled the room. The voice said,

"You? Yeah, right!"

Rubeus shielded his eyes, turning to face the center of the room. The mirrors were shining green beams of light into the center of the room.

"Emerald?" Rubeus called. "Is that you?"

"Hello, Rubeus." The voice said as three emeralds appeared, hovering in midair. It was Emerald after all. The light dimmed, and Rubeus stopped shielding his eyes.

"Emerald, what are you doing here?" He asked.

"You messed up big, pal!" Emerald replied. She had long green-yellow hair, with the natural Upside down moon crescent on her forehead. She wore a black, sleeveless suit, with three large emeralds on the front, and long black gloves. She was carrying a fan. She walked over to Rubeus.

"So, this is what Tokyo looks like in the twentieth century." She said, looking into Rubeus' mirror. "Rather small and ugly, don't you think?"

"I guess it really doesn't matter." She said, putting her face behind her fan. "Just as long as I do my job." Rubeus looked at her.

"What are you talking about, Emerald?" Rubeus asked as Emerald walked away from the mirror.

"Poor dear, haven't you heard?" Emerald said, holding a large emerald in her hand. "As of tomorrow, you'll be relieved of your duties, and I'm taking over the search for Rini and the conquest of Crystal Tokyo. You really blew it big time, Rubeus." Emerald kissed the jewel she held in her hand.

"That's a lie, Emerald!" Rubeus shouted angrily. "Prince Diamond wouldn't abandon me!"

Emerald, apathetically, began to walk to the center of the room. She said,

"Oh, it's no lie, my dear. Gullible Rubeus. You're finished!" She laughed. "Your hopeless incompetence has finally riled our fair and tolerant prince."

Rubeus growled angrily. Emerald ignored it, and began to walk to center of the room, saying,

"Let's see. What could possibly make the prince turn on you? Could it be 'cause you lost the four bickering sisters? Or maybe 'cause you haven't secured a single Crystal Point yet." Rubeus' hands were clenched tightly in anger. Emerald continued, unabated. "Hey, you don't suppose it's 'cause you haven't captured either the Silver Crystal or that kid yet? Frankly, Rubeus, I can't believe you lasted this long!" Rubeus snarled. "You can go ahead and ask the Prince yourself, if you don't believe me." Emerald said, running her fingers through her hair. "But before you do though, you might just want to know that he no longer wants you in our family." Rubeus was furious. The mirrors each shone again as Emerald said, "Well, see you tomorrow, Rubeus. I hate to think what the prince has planned for you!" She laughed, as the mirrors shone the green beams of light, and Emerald disappeared.

"No!" Rubeus shouted into the empty fortress. "I have twenty-four hours to wipe out Sailor Moon and those miserable Sailor Scouts, and prove myself to Prince Diamond." He looked upwards. "And this time, I know where the Silver Crystal is!"

Serena was running home, and was in a major rush.

"My stars!" She cried. "But, I'm so late!"

She ran into the door of her home, and was greeted by her mother, who asked if she wanted some muffins. Serena replied,

"Hi mom! Gotta run! Muffins? Would I ever!"

Rini was at the top of the stairs, and stared as Serena rushed up the stairs. Inside that locket is the Silver Crystal. Rini thought to herself. If I had it, I could save my mom.

"Hi Rini, how's it goin'?" Serena said as she walked by. Rini watched while Serena walked by.

"Oh, hi." was all she said. Serena ran into her room.

"Come on, come on, come on!" She said to herself. "I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! The Scouts are gonna skin me! Come, Serena, move it! Faster, faster!" Within seconds of entering her room, she was out of her school uniform, and headed down the stairs. She put on her shoes, and headed for the door. She shouted good-bye to her mother, who said,

"Serena, tell me how your exam went today."

Serena smiled, and said, "Oh, it went about as I expected!" She closed the door, and left. Serena's mother said,

"What does that mean? Oh, that lazy girl!"

Rini looked on.

At Raye's temple, the girls and cats, minus Serena, were talking. Artemis said,

"Have you been watching the news lately? There have been more and more sightings of UFO's!"

"Do you think there's some kind of connection to Rubeus and his gang?" Amy asked.

"We don't know." Replied Luna. "But, it sure seems suspicious. You need to keep an eye out for each other!"

Just then, Serena burst in the door, and sat around the table where the other girls had gathered.

"You're late." Said Raye.

"Not as late as last week!" Serena replied. She sat down, and noticed a huge bowl full of cookies. She asked to have one, and Lita said,

"Sure thing! I made them at school, and actually made more than enough, so have as many as you like!"

Serena grabbed one cookie for each hand, and began to eat them. She said, through bites, that Lita was an excellent cook. The girls laughed, except Raye, who said,

"Don't you care at all that Rubeus is still trying to capture Rini?" Serena said "Mmm hmm!" as her 'yes' reply, with a full mouth.

"With all these UFO sightings," Mina said, "Rini's in great danger, and we have to watch over her closer than ever!"

"Got that right!" Said Serena. "I get my hands on that weasel, Rubeus, and he's gonna pay!"

Meanwhile, back at Serena's house, Serena's mother was pouring pancake batter into a hot pan.

"I'm making pancakes for our tea party today, now how does that sound?" She said, looking to Rini. Rini cheered, then stopped as she saw the gargantuan pile of pancakes that had already been prepared.

"But, why are you making so many?" She asked. Serena's mother explained that the extra ones were for Sammy and Serena when they got home. Rini said,

"You're so nice to Serena, and she doesn't even know it." Serena's mother stopped and looked at Rini. Rini continued, "You're such a good mom, and I don't really think she appreciates you like she should."

"Oh, Rini." Said Serena's mother, kneeling down. "You're such a wise little girl. But, every mother does nice things for their kids just because they love them."

"Every mother in the whole world?" Asked Rini. Serena's mother replied,

"Sure! A mother's love for her children goes very deep, and she loves them more than anyone else."

"Well, I guess you'd know about that." Rini said, beginning to look despondent.

"Know what, Rini?" Serena's mother said. "I'll let you in on a secret. You're my niece, but I still love you as if you were one of my own!" Rini looked up, and smiled.

Serena's room lay in the mess that she had left it in. Rini appeared at the door to the empty abode, and said,

"Ew, gross! What a total sty!" She stopped cold when she noticed Serena's uniform on her bed. On the bow, was the Serena's transformation brooch. There it is! Rini thought. The Silver Crystal's inside. She said out loud,

"How could she just leave it there?" She imagined how the locket opened, revealing the Crystal, whenever Serena shouted 'Moon Crystal Power' to transform. She went up to Serena's bed, and reached to grab the locket, but stopped.

"I know it's not mine," Rini said to herself, "but if I take it, somehow, I'll be able to save my mom." She grabbed hold of the locket. Oh, but Serena's Sailor Moon! She thought to herself. She pictured the times when Sailor Moon protected her. She's saved me many times. Even though she doesn't appreciate her mom like she should, I guess I should trust her. Just then, Serena arrived at the door, greeted by her mother. Her mother said that she could help herself to some pancakes. Serena replied,

"No thanks, mom! I totally porked out on Lita's cookies. I can't eat another thing!"

Rini listened to Serena's words, and said,

"How can she be so thoughtless? There's no way that rude brat could be Sailor Moon."

She plucked the brooch off the uniform.

"Why ask for her to help?" She pondered, holding the brooch out. "I'll save my mom myself." She held the brooch tightly against her chest.

"You are a meatball head!" Luna exclaimed as she and Serena ran up the stairs. "How could you go off without the locket?"

Serena replied, "Relax, Luna, it's right where I left it: On my sailor outfit." Serena opened the door to her room, and looked to the uniform on her bed. A nearby window was open, and wind was turning the pages on a book on Serena's night stand. There was no locket on Serena's uniform. Serena and Luna both panicked.

"I don't need Sailor Moon!" Rini cried as she ran with the Luna Ball and the locket. "I'll save mommy all by myself!" As she was running, the crystal UFO fortress of Rubeus' was glimmering in the sky.

Inside the fortress, was looking into his mirror. There was a sound behind him. Instead of paying his new visitor with respect, he simply said,

"Yeah, Wiseman?"

Wiseman appeared, and told Rubeus, "It is time. I see the Silver Crystal is now in the hands of the child Rini."

"Are you quite certain?" Rubeus replied. Wiseman said,

"I see she will be in the woods at twilight. Rubeus, this is your last chance. You must intercept her!"

Rubeus smiled. "Alright."

Meanwhile, the girls were at the stairs that led to Raye's temple. Suddenly, Mina's communicator began to beep. She answered, and it was Luna, screaming about an emergency.

"Rini's missing, and so is my locket!" Serena said. "She must have taken it with her."

"So, you heard her, Scouts!" Said Mina, ending the transmission. "We've gotta split up and look for her!" The girls ran to find Rini.

Rini stood on the dock, overlooking the lake where she had pondered Sailor Moon's identity before.

"I'm so lonely here, mommy." She said, clutching her Time Key. "But now, I'm going to be coming back. I'll save you, mommy!" Rini raised the Time Key into the air.

"MOON CRYSTAL KEY! SEND ME HOME TO THE FUTURE!"

Rini held the key high in the air. The key didn't do anything. Rini began to cry. Her sadness mounted, and she emitted the Moon Beam. When she opened her eyes, Rubeus was hovering over her, smiling.

"Cut the caterwauling, kid!" He said. Rini backed up in horror. "Got you nailed, brat!" He said. "You're not going anywhere!" He hovered over the dock that Rini had stood on, glaring down at the horrified child.

"You've got the Crystal." He said. "Hand it over kid. Right now!" Rini was backing up in horror of Rubeus. He was about to hit the child, but was interrupted by a sudden blast of fire rings, and a chain of energy. Rubeus leapt backwards, but was hit by both. The impact caused a huge explosion that decimated the edge of the dock. The Sailor Scouts had arrived.

"Rini, Run!" Shouted the Sailor Scouts. Sailor Mars ran up to Rini, and grabbed her. She ran away with the child. Rubeus said,

"You won't stop me!"

Mercury shouted, "Sailor Mars, get Rini out of here, and we'll handle Rubeus!"

"MERCURY ICE STORM BLAST!!!"*

A thick fog engulfed the area.

Meanwhile, Sailor Mars was running, Rini in arms. Rini said,

"Put me down, Raye!"

Sailor Mars was shocked, and stopped, putting Rini down.

"It's okay." Rini said. "I know who all of you Scouts really are."

"How do you know that?" Mars inquired. Rini gathered her Luna Ball just as the others arrived.

"He won't find us here." Venus said. Rini turned her back to the Sailors.

"So glad you're alright now, Rini!" Said Mercury. Rini rudely replied,

"I don't know if I should be thanking you or not. You see, I know you guys are all working with Serena." The Sailor Scouts were shocked. "I know why you guys saved me." She continued. "You found out I took Serena's locket, and you're all just here to get it back!"

"But that's just not true, Rini." Said Sailor Mars. "We were all worried about you, Serena more than any of us."

"All Serena cares about is herself!" Rini snapped. "How can a goof like her be Sailor Moon? She's selfish, and irresponsible!"

"Yeah, Rini, she's a real flake." Replied Mars, putting a hand on Rini's shoulder. "But, she does care about you." Rini tried to start, but Venus interrupted her.

"Yeah. She's annoying, and always late, and pigs out on food!"

"But that's our Serena." Chimed Jupiter. "You gotta take her the way she comes!"

"That's right, Rini." Sailor Mercury said. "I know sometimes Serena seems like a real ditz, but she does really care about you."

"You're all lying, I know you are!" Rini cried. She ran away, through traffic, and into the night.

Rubeus overlooked the city of Tokyo through his mirror, and laughed.

"You can hide, Rini." He said in a sinister tone. "But, the moment you try to go back to the future, I'll be there to get you!"

Serena, Amy and Raye were standing on the street, talking. They had been searching for Rini.

"Did you find her?" Asked Serena. Raye replied, "Yeah, but she ran away."

"If Rini has the locket," Amy said, "then she must also have the Silver Crystal with her, is that right, Serena?"

"I'm afraid so!" Serena replied. Amy said,

"Rubeus is after Rini and the Silver Crystal, so I guess we have an even bigger crisis on our hands!" What the girls didn't notice, was Rini appearing in an alley nearby. She said to herself that no one would get the Crystal. She felt tired, and went to a place to sleep.

A clock tower struck its chimes.

"It's ten o'clock." Mina said. She was with Lita.

"Time for little kids like Rini to be safely tucked in their beds." Said Lita.

Meanwhile, Darien was walking home to his apartment, and saw something at his door. It was Rini, in a crouching position, fast asleep.

The world was black, as the Sailor Scouts and Rini were retreating. The remnants of broken crystals and towers lay strewn about in a display of hurt and pain. Suddenly, beyond the horizon, the sky lit up, as thousands upon thousands of Crystal fortresses, similar to Rubeus' arose in the air, in pursuit of the Sailors. Explosions from energy beams being fired at them rung all around them.

"I wish Sailor Moon was here to help!" Jupiter said.

"Mommy?" Rini murmured in her sleep. Darien was watching over her.

"No, it's just me, Rini." He said. Rini woke up, happy. She had been sleeping in Darien's bed, and he was watching over her. Then, a rose appeared in front of her. Darien was holding a small Tuxedo Mask puppet, and it was holding the small flower.

"Please don't cry, little lady." Tuxedo Mask said. "If you look sad, then this rose will whither up and die! Here, it's for you." Rini took the rose, and thanked Tuxedo Mask. "That's better." He said. "My name is Tuxedo Mask, and I'll always be there for you!" Darien was doing the ventriloquism, and was very good, because his lips didn't move at all. "Did you have a bad dream?" The doll asked. Rini nodded yes.

"Tuxedo Mask?" She said. Tuxedo Mask answered,

"Yes, what is it?"

"You think Sailor Moon's a good person?"

"Oh, yes. She's the best." Tuxedo Mask said. Darien's lips moved. Rini's stomach growled, and Darien offered to make her breakfast. Rini said she wanted pancakes. The doorbell rang, and it was Serena. Rini panicked. Serena had asked, through the door, if he had see Rini. Rini used her Luna Ball.

"LUNA SPHERE KITTY MAGIC!!"

The Luna Ball changed into a parachute pack, and Rini put it on. She leapt off the balcony of Darien's apartment. Serena ran in, and said,

"Darien, where is she?"

"Sorry, Serena, you just missed her!" Darien said, pointing towards the edge of the balcony. They both peered over the side as Rini descended to an intersection, changed the Luna Ball back, and got out her Time Key again.

"MOON CRYSTAL KEY! SEND ME HOME TO THE FUTURE!"

This time, the key reacted. It sent its pink starlight into the air, and opened the time portal. It began to lift Rini into the air. Suddenly, something interfered with the key's energy, and Rini fell to the ground, unconscious. With its invisibility function now not operational, Rubeus' huge Crystal UFO fortress appeared, hovering low over the city. Its ominous form was decorated with colored lights. From the various points that jutted out from the center of the fortress, energy beams like lightning bolts were emitted, keeping the fortress hovered. Searchlights on the bottom of the fortress shone downwards, towards the populace. People began to panic, and the power in the buildings went out.

"Mina, look!" Said Amy, gazing up at the crystal wonder.

"It's the UFO!" Said Mina.

"Like everyone's been talking about." Continued Raye. Lita said,

"It's huge! Rubeus must be up there!"

The girls could see that they were directly below the fortress. Right over them, there was a hatch that was surrounded by bright white lights. The behemoth gently lowered itself to a lower altitude, and shone a light on Rini. Rubeus laughed. He appeared, hovering near his fortress.

"Hello, Rini!" He said. "Expecting someone else, were you? So sorry to disappoint you, but you won't be going home to the future. Not 'till you hand over the Silver Crystal to me."

Rini woke up, and looked in horror at Rubeus and his huge fortress.

"Hand it over, brat, or face the consequences!" He shouted.

"Back off, Rube!" Shouted a voice rudely. It was Sailor Venus. She had arrived with the other Sailor Scouts, minus, due to circumstances, Sailor Moon. Sailor Mars knelt down to Rini, and said,

"If that overbearing lout wants you, Rini, he'll have to deal with the Sailor Scouts first!"

"Fine by me, Sailor Ditzes!" Jeered Rubeus. "I'll wipe out the lot of you once and for all!"

"You can try!" Jupiter challenged.

"JUPITER THUNDERCLOUD ZAP!"

"MARS CELESTIAL FIRE SURROUND!!!"

"VENUS LOVE CHAIN ENCIRCLE!"

"That's all you got?" Rubeus said as the energy struck him. He laughed, undaunted.

"He must be shielded by some kind of invisible forcefield." Theorized Mercury. "We've got to break through it somehow!"

Rubeus smiled. "Got that right, Sailor Brats!" He shouted, firing a beam of energy at the Sailor Scouts. They were all knocked to the ground. Sailor Mars told Rini to run, and Rubeus gloated. He used his powers to operate the fortress. It emitted a beam some feet away, and the effects caused a dent in the street. The beam traced a line towards the Sailor Scouts. They weren't hurt.

"It's some kind of super-gravity beam making us heavy! We've got to fight it, Scouts!" Shouted Mercury.

"I don't have the strength, Sailor Mercury!" Mars said. "Maybe if we pool our powers!"

"How?" Asked Mercury.

"You mean we should try the Sailor Planet Power?" Venus said.

"But without Sailor Moon, we won't have enough power with just the four of us!" Mercury said. The Sailor Scouts had no choice.

"JUPITER STAR POWER!"

"VENUS STAR POWER!"

"MERCURY STAR POWER!"

"MARS STAR POWER!"

"SAILOR PLANET POWER!!!"

An intense beam of energy from the planets' powers was emitted, and fired at the fortress. Rubeus laughed. Mars told Rini to run. Rini was petrified with fear, and Mars shouted,

"Do as I say, Rini! Now!"

Tuxedo Mask came, and told Mars to worry about the fight. He got hold of Rini. He was about to leave, but Rubeus saw it.

"No! The kid's mine!" He operated the fortress, and reversed the gravity beam. It began to lift the Sailor Scouts into the air, causing them to break the Planet Power. Serena and Tuxedo Mask watched while the Sailor Scouts were lifted into Rubeus' fortress. Serena and Rini had tears in their eyes. Rubeus laughed.

"Too bad, Sailor Moon." He said to Serena. "You won a few battles, but this time I will win the war!"
