Sailor Moon episode 77

Episode title: Jealousy's Just Reward

Canadian Air date: 11/13/97

The Crystal Palace stood tall above the ruins of Crystal Tokyo. Forever locked in the blue and black darkness of night, it stood as a symbol of the dying breed of what would be Earth's last hope.

"So this is the Crystal Palace?" Wondered Sailor Venus. She and the other Sailor Scouts, minus Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, had made their way to the top of the crystalline giant.

"It's so eerie and quiet." Observed Jupiter. "It gives me the creeps! The people of the Negamoon must be unbelievably powerful to put everybody here to sleep!"

"And if the palace had been properly protected by the Silver Crystal," said Luna, "there should have been a lot less damage. I don't understand what happened."

"Me neither." Added Artemis. "You think something's wrong with the Silver Crystal here in the future?"

Just then, at Artemis' words, Rini dropped her Luna Sphere. Sailor Mercury picked it up, and gave it back to the child. Rini hugged the ball tightly.

"I sure hope Tuxedo Mask was able to rescue Sailor Moon from that Diamond twerp." Luna said.

"I say we all go find them!" Proclaimed Mars, turning to leave. She was stopped by a voice. The King of the Earth appeared, and walked over to a computer console that had a large screen. The control panel was made up of crystals and colored lights. The King touched one of the crystals, and the screen came to life, showing Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask running somewhere.

"No need, Sailor Mars." The King said. "Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask have escaped."

The Sailor Scouts all looked gleefully at the screen. Meanwhile, Tuxedo Mask was carrying a tired Sailor Moon on his shoulder. Sailor Moon leapt into Sailor Mercury's arms, as her friends came to greet her. Sailor Moon was happy to see her friends, and began crying.

"Enough bauling, you big Meatball Head!" Scolded Mars. "We've got a big fight ahead!"

Tuxedo Mask looked into the King's eyes, and the Sailor Scouts told Mars to lay off Sailor Moon. Meanwhile, no one noticed the guilt and anguish on Rini's face, as she clutched her Luna Ball.

The Sailor Scouts, the cats, Tuxedo Mask, Rini, and the King of the Earth all arrived at a large door that was promptly opened. In the room that lay before them, there was an altar. Large curtains draped around it, and the altar held a large crystal shape on it.

"Is that...?" Began Sailor Moon.

"Yes." The King replied. "The Queen of Crystal Tokyo. Neo-Queen Serenity, my wife."

"She looks dead." Sailor Moon said grimly. The King said,

"She's been like that for a month now. I don't know if she hears me at all. There's no response."

Rini ran up to the crystal containing the Queen. She looked at her sleeping mother.

"Mommy," she said, "I brought Sailor Moon and the other Sailor Soldiers from the past to help us. Mommy, please, open your eyes!" Tears were welling up in Rini's eyes, but the Queen didn't move.

"Diamond put her to sleep, just like everybody else?" Asked Tuxedo Mask.

"Yeah." Venus added. "I don't get it. What about the Silver Crystal?"

"Good question." Replied the King. "I'm sure it would have protected her, had we access to it. But, the truth is, the Silver Crystal has completely vanished." With that, Rini jerked, and her body stiffened.

"Vanished?!" Jupiter exclaimed. "How? What happened?"

"I have absolutely no idea." Said the King. "It disappeared just before the Negamoon family attacked us. It's a complete mystery." Rini, at the time, was fighting back the tears of guilt.

"But, Sailor Moon's Silver Crystal's the same stone." Sailor Mars stated. "Shouldn't it work?"

Sailor Moon looked at her locket.

"It didn't work against Prince Diamond." She said. "But maybe it can awaken Queen Serenity, you think?"

Luna told Sailor Moon to do it, and Sailor Moon obliged.

"MOON CRYSTAL POWER!"

Rini watched with hope and anticipation, as Neo-Queen Serenity was showered with bright pink light. The Queen lay still in the crystal, and Sailor Moon tried harder, but to no avail. The Queen didn't awaken.

"It's hopeless." Rini said to herself. "If Sailor Moon can't bring her back, then no one can!" As Sailor Moon collapsed, Rini ran out of the room. Sailor Moon went to follow her, but Tuxedo Mask said,

"Let her go. The poor thing's been through so much, and anyway, she's safe here in the palace."

Meanwhile, just outside the palace gates, Rini came out, with her Luna Sphere, crying. Oh, mommy, why won't you wake up? She wondered, crying. She continued walking through the ruins just outside the palace, and stopped when she came to a swing. She sat on it.

"Mommy." She said to herself. "I wish you could tell me what to do." Suddenly, from behind her, someone's laugh echoed through the ruins. Rini looked up, and saw a strange, cloaked figure hovering above her. It was the Wiseman.

"So," he began, "finally, we meet, Small Lady. How fortuitous! Come to me, child! We have much to discuss!" Rini was getting scared. Wiseman pointed a finger at her, and stated, "I'm your destiny!"

Rini turned to run away, but suddenly found that her body wouldn't respond.

"I can't move!" She said. Wiseman chuckled.

"No, you can't." He said. "Stop resisting. It's utterly futile!" The Wiseman used his magic to change his and Rini's surroundings. Other than the swing, everything else disappeared. The Wiseman's eyes glowed bright white.

"Now, let me probe into your mind." He said, looking into his crystal ball. "There's much guilt and fear there. Your memory of the Silver Crystal's faint, but a small corner of your mind remembers what happened to it!" Rini's face appeared in the ball. Rini cried in pain, as the Wiseman forced out her memories. Her dream first showed Neo-Queen Serenity and the King of the Earth, shadowed.

"My mommy's the prettiest, nicest, most wonderful mommy on Earth." Rini said. "Everybody loves her." Just then, Rini recalled a time when she had broken a vase.

"Rini, you pest! Look what you've done now!" A voice shouted at her.

"If you wanna be like your mother, you'd better start behaving yourself!" Said another.

"Says who?" Rini shot back. "You?" The voice shouted for Rini to come back. Suddenly, Rini was running through a dark hallway.

"I'm gonna be a real lady, just like mommy." Rini said. "And, I know just how to do it! I'll borrow mommy's magic crystal!" Rini walked into a room. In it, there was a small pedestal, upon which, sat the Imperium Silver Crystal. It was protected by a small field of energy. Rini took her Luna Sphere, and held it up to a scanner on the pedestal. "I won't be long." She said. "I'll bring it right back. Just a few minutes, to let its magic work on me, and turn me into a real lady, like mom." The field around the Silver Crystal vanished, and Rini picked it up. She gazed in amazement at the Silver Crystal as it glowed in her hands. Without warning, the Silver Crystal emitted intense beams of light, blinding the child. In an instant, the Silver Crystal disappeared.

Outside the Crystal Palace, Crystal Tokyo could only stand and watch, while the Negamoon family took over. Bolts of powerful lightning struck the city, destroying it. Huge craters formed from the explosions. Neo-Queen Serenity was looking for Rini, but the palace was attacked. Before the power could hit her, the Sailor Scouts encased her in a large crystal. Rini called out for her mother, but it was too late. Meanwhile, the King of the Earth stood, watching the large screen from his computer console. He saw Nemesis, giving off intense waves of energy, and was blinded by a huge burst of light and energy. Loud explosions surrounded the Crystal Palace. Rini was screaming for her parents, covering her ears.

"So, now I see what happened." Said the Wiseman. "You weren't supposed to touch the Silver Crystal, were you? You've been trying to forget all about it, haven't you? Just blot it out of your mind!"

"That's not true!" Shouted Rini. "It wasn't my fault!"

"Do you really believe that, Small Lady?" Said the Wiseman. Rini looked up, and saw Sailor Moon, her eyes shadowed, looking down on the small child.

"Fess up, brat!" She scolded. "It's all your fault!"

"You know you're not supposed to mess with the Silver Crystal!" Scolded Sailor Jupiter.

"You're mom's lying there because of you!" Said Sailor Venus. "She left the safety of the palace to find you!"

"And that's when her enemies attacked her!" Added Mars angrily.

"It's all your fault!" Blamed Amy. Rini sank to her knees, yelling at the Sailors to stop.

"It's all your fault!" The Sailor Scouts chanted. "You're to blame!"

"You can't blame me!" Rini shouted. "I didn't do it on purpose! It just happened! All I did was touch it! You've gotta believe me!"

"You're to blame!" The Sailor Scouts shouted one last time, before disappearing. As they did, Rini heard her mother's voice, calling for her. Then, Rini had to bear witness to the act that encased Neo-Queen Serenity in her large crystal. Each of the Sailor Scouts surrounded the Queen, and were using their powers to encase the Queen. The Queen was being hit by a beam of energy.

"No!" Rini shouted, as the crystal around the Queen thickened. "It's not my fault!"

"Of course not." Said the Wiseman sympathetically. "They're being very cruel, blaming you, saying it's all your fault! I think I can help you make them see how wrong they are!" With that, the image disappeared. Rini turned to face the Wiseman.

"You'd make them stop blaming me for it?" She said. "Why would you do that for me?"

"Dear child," Wiseman said, "you simply made a mistake." He reached a hand out to the little girl. "Come with me. Together, we can make them understand!" Rini walked towards the Wiseman, kicking her Luna Sphere out of the way, and she and the Wiseman joined hands...

At Diamond's palace, not too far away from the Crystal Palace, Sapphire watched while the powers of the Dark Crystal began to shimmer.

"Wow!" Said Emerald. "What's going on? The Dark Crystal's Energy Absorption Indicator's really going ballistic!"

"I'd say we've got a potential bomb on our hands." Replied Sapphire grimly. Emerald was concerned. "Diamond doesn't understand how volatile or fragile the Dark Crystal is." Sapphire said. "The Wiseman's egged him on. The Crystal could blow any time. The Prince better watch out for the old coot. He's got his own agenda." Emerald chuckled.

"Sapphire, gimme a break. If you can hear yourself, you sound so paranoid! You don't need to worry about Diamond, he knows exactly what he's doing." Just then, a large image of Prince Diamond appeared.

"Emerald." He said. "What's the status on the Black Crystal's Energy Absorption Indicator?"

"Prince Diamond, we shouldn't be hasty." Emerald replied subserviently. "But, be more cautious in putting new energy into the Crystal. It might explode, Prince Diamond!"

Prince Diamond's image disappeared without a word.

"Lovesick fool won't listen to anybody!" Said Sapphire. The image of Neo-Queen Serenity emitted from a pedestal nearby held evidence of that. "He's so gaga over that idiot, Sailor Moon. He doesn't know backwards from forwards. He's not only dangerous to himself, but to our cause." Emerald threw her fan to the floor, causing some of the feathers to fly off.

"Stop it!" She shouted angrily. "How could you possibly believe my Prince Diamond could fall for that sniveling little air puff space-case! Get real, Sapphire! She's the enemy! So I admit it, Diamond's been acting more than a little weird lately, but that's just because..." Emerald began to struggle with her words. "...He's got so much on his mind. I'll take care of the Wiseman, and that little twit! Just let her try to move in on my Prince Diamond!"

The Crystal Palace was standing in a cold blizzard. The winds howled, and snow blew fiercely. Some ways away, a large palace of black crystal stood. It was Diamond's fortress, where Tuxedo Mask had earlier flown to. Inside the palace, Emerald was in the Wiseman's chambers, and was calling for him. From the darkness, she heard a small girl laughing.

"Who was that? Show yourself!" Emerald shouted. "There should not be anyone here in this place!"

Just then, the Wiseman appeared.

"Hello, Emerald." He said pleasantly (Or, at least as pleasant as the voice of the Wiseman gets). "I don't need a crystal ball to see how angry you are, or how jealous! Beware those emotions. They can lead you to disaster."

"Believe me, Wiseman," Emerald replied, sticking her nose in the air, "no petty emotion rules my destiny, but enough on that. I came to ask for your help. I will be organizing an attack on Crystal Palace. To defeat them, I must have our strongest powers." Wiseman sat there silently. "Don't try to deny me." Emerald warned. "I know you have the authority to do this."

"And, does this order come from the Prince?" Asked Wiseman. Emerald replied,

"No, but I believe he would agree to anything to get Crystal Palace. Hmm?"

Wiseman sat silently for a moment, and started looking into his crystal ball.

"I'm receiving an image." He said. "I'm seeing the queen who will reign over us in the future. Tall, fair-haired. As beautiful as she is powerful, and loved by her king!" An image of a person appeared in the crystal ball. Emerald's eyes widened. The image was of her. "There is really little difference between you and Neo-Queen Serenity." Said Wiseman. "With help from the Dark Crystal, you could surpass her, and your wish to become Diamond's queen could come true!"

Queen Emerald? Emerald thought anxiously. It's what I've always wanted! From the Wiseman's crystal ball emerged a small emerald. It glowed, and became a small, black, crystal tiara. It floated ominously over to Emerald.

"There must be a catch." Emerald said. "But, I don't care. If I can win Prince Diamond's heart and be queen, I'll take the chance."

Emerald grabbed hold of the floating tiara, and it began emitting bright green light. Emerald shrieked in pain, as the crystal transformed her. Her clothes changed into a long dress, and the tiara appeared on her forehead. Emerald laughed out loud.

"What an unbelievable power!" She said. "It courses through my veins! Queen Emerald and Prince Diamond. I like it!" She laughed. The Wiseman's eyes were glowing white again, and he said,

"Everything has its price." Emerald's face turned to that of worry. Suddenly, black smoke began to arise from her body.

"You deluded yourself, Emerald." Wiseman scolded. "Your ambition has sent you to your doom!" Emerald began to weaken, and collapse. "You actually believed you could handle the power of the Dark Crystal? Meet your fate!"

"Wiseman, how could you!" Emerald shouted, finally falling to the floor. "Oh, my sweet, handsome Prince." She said weakly, on the ground. "We would have been so good together, ruling the future." Emerald's head dropped, her eyes closed. Her body was encased in a shell of the black smoke.

"Foolish woman." Said Wiseman, watching Emerald's body being surrounded by the black cocoon. The cocoon grew in size, and one of the walls from Diamond's fortress exploded, leaving a gaping hole. When the smoke cleared, a dragon was standing in the hole. It had green skin and wings, a yellow abdomen, and was wearing Emerald's tiara. The dragon roared, and teleported to where it needed to go. Within minutes, it was over the Crystal Palace, which was rumbling. The Sailor Scouts, Tuxedo Mask, and the cats were running to the control room, where the King of the Earth was looking at the monitor of his console. He was touching the crystals, trying to get a picture of the commotion. The Sailor Scouts arrived as he got a picture of the dragon.

"Are we gonna have to fight that thing?" Asked Sailor Mars. The King replied,

"I'll try to get a closer look." He touched another crystal, and the screen showed wire frame schematics of the dragon.

"This thirtieth century technology is amazing!" Said Sailor Mercury.

"Watch this." Said the King, touching another crystal. The screen showed a close-up of Emerald's tiara, which was on the wire-frame model of the dragon's head. "Looks can be deceiving. This creature isn't what it seems. The external being's merely a facade. Once we look deeper inside the shell, we can see what we're really up against. And, in this case, it seems to be the energy of a human-like mind."

"I wonder who has such a hideous mind to create such a horrible monster like that!" Said Sailor Moon. Just then, there was a loud rumble, which frightened the Sailor Scouts.

"The monster's breaking down the castle walls!" Exclaimed Luna.

"Not if we leave the palace, and draw the monster away from here!" Replied Jupiter. "Come on, let's go!"

"Must we?" Said Sailor Moon, obviously afraid.

"Hey," Jupiter replied, "why did we come to the future anyway? To sit around and sip tea? We're not going to be scared off by one little dragon! We're the Sailor Scouts!" The Sailor Scouts agreed, and ran off. Before Tuxedo Mask left, he asked the King to take care of Rini. The King said he would.

Outside, the dragon was making a pass at the palace. The palace was encased in a dome. The dragon stomped on the dome with its foot. Meanwhile, the source of the dome felt the strain. The source was the Sailor Scouts of the future. They were each standing, backs turned, around a tall crystal, that was glowing intensely. The dragon breathed fire on the dome, but the Sailor Scouts' dome still held. The dragon swung its tail, and the dome still remained.

"That tea sounds pretty good to me right now!" Said Sailor Moon. Sailor Mercury told Sailor Moon not to show her fear. The dragon saw the Sailor Scouts, and swooped down over them. The resulting wind knocked them all to the ground.

"How are we gonna put this ugly lug on ice?" Asked Mars.

"Just like we always do!" Replied Venus.

"VENUS LOVE CHAIN ENCIRCLE!"

The Love Chain swung at the dragon, and succeeded in gouging a large wound in its abdomen. Venus was knocked down from a wind. Luna and Artemis watched from the computer console, and looked closely as the wound on the dragon's abdomen closed.

"Hey, just a minute, Artemis!" Exclaimed Luna. "Looks like she wounded it!" She and Artemis shouted at the screen, for the Sailor Scouts to keep trying.

Meanwhile, the King of the Earth was in the room housing Neo-Queen Serenity. Please, my queen, he pleaded in his mind, If you can hear me, give the Sailor Soldiers more power. Behind him, there was a sound, and he looked to see the Luna Sphere.

"Is that you, Rini?" He asked.

Outside, the dragon was making another pass over the Sailor Scouts. The Sailor Scouts got ready, as the dragon swooped down, and they all leapt to safety, as it smashed its tail into the ground. Sailor Moon landed on the ground, and Jupiter asked if she was okay.

"JUPITER THUNDERCLAP ZAP!"

The electric bolt hit the dragon, sending it crashing into the ground. Sailor Moon cheered for Jupiter, and ran over to the dragon, taunting it.

"Watch it, Sailor Moon!" Shouted Tuxedo Mask. "Don't get too close!"

"Oh, relax already!" Sailor Moon replied, laughing. Before her, the smoke disappeared, and the dragon, completely unharmed, lunged at her. The dragon missed, and Sailor Moon fell to the ground. The dragon loomed over Sailor Moon, and just as the dragon was about to eat the hapless Sailor Scout, Tuxedo Mask leapt in, and jumped out, Sailor Moon in arm.

"Guess you were right, Tuxedo Mask!" Sailor Moon quipped under her breath. The Sailor Scouts got ready to attack, and the dragon roared fearlessly.

"MARS CELESTIAL FIRE SURROUND!"

The rings of fire struck the dragon in the chest, and it was unharmed.

"SHINE AQUA ILLUSION!"

The powers from Mercury's Shine Aqua Illusion hit the dragon's tail, and succeeded only in freezing it, and angering the dragon. The dragon shook off the ice, and blasted a stream of fire. Mars and Mercury leapt out of the way.

"I don't think we can finish it off!" Said Mars.

"But, there has to be a way!" Replied Mercury. "There has to be!"

"Don't give up!" Shouted Tuxedo Mask. "Remember what the King said: We must look past the surface, and see the creature inside! We can do it!"

Sailor Mercury: "Right! That's who we have to defeat!"

Sailor Jupiter: "Inside, the dragon has a..."

Sailor Moon: "...Human-like mind!"

The dragon roared loudly, and shot another blast of fire at Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon. Tuxedo Mask dove, knocking him and Sailor Moon out of the way.

"It's your turn, Sailor Moon!" He said. Sailor Moon nodded with affirmation. As the dragon shot another blast of fire, Tuxedo Mask leapt above the stream of flames, and threw a rose right into the tiara. Red energy began to surge throughout its body, and Sailor Moon got ready.

"It's up to you, Moon Scepter."

"MOON SCEPTER ACTIVATION!"

The dragon made no noise at all, as it was turned into a huge pile of dust. In a glimmering light, Emerald appeared, wearing the tiara. Emerald was transparent, and fading out of existence. She did finally fade, and the tiara faded as well. Sailor Moon gasped at who their enemy had been all that time, and the Sailor Scouts stared solemnly at the final place of Emerald's rest. Meanwhile, Emerald's spirit fell into oblivion...

Diamond was on his throne, sipping a glass of wine. He was disturbed by something.

"Diamond..." A voice called out to him. He opened his eyes, and realized what had happened.

"Emerald?"

"They did it!" Exclaimed Artemis, as he and Luna looked at the celebrating Sailor Scouts in the monitor. "They did it, Luna!" Just then, the King of the Earth walked in.

"Rini's missing." He said. "I looked all over, but I couldn't find her anywhere in the palace." Luna and Artemis both gasped.

Meanwhile, at Diamond's black crystal palace, Wiseman was in his chambers, talking with himself.

"Emerald, good riddance!" He said. "That awful laugh of hers gave me a migraine! And soon enough, her ambitious, self-centered friends Sapphire and Diamond will be joining her! I no longer need the Negamoon Family! The last puzzle piece has been found, and now, nothing...nothing can stop me!"

The Wiseman laughed, and from the darkness, Rini laughed with him...
