Vietnam Cafe ...4
Located at 522 Campbell, Kansas City, MO 64106.
This mom-pop style cafe has served the Vietnamese community in the area for more than 20 years. The cafe is often found busy serving local business owners and guest by day and local families and friends by night. Vietnam Café is near the River Market place, the sunken Arabian boat museum, Asian markets and stores, the River Market Brewery, and live music entertainment. Their menu consists of various rice entrees, noodle soups, fried noodles, vermicelli, and popular Chinese dishes. Their soup noodle entrees come in a large bowl of beef broth, noodles, and your choice of meats. A separate dish of sprouts, mint leaves, cilantro, and other vegis, is served to add flavor and texture to your soups. If you like it spicy, add some red chili paste to your liking. What originally hooked me to Vietnamese food was the famous fish sauce, which is served, on the side, with the vermicelli entrees. My usual order includes a cup of Viet Coffee-iced with condensed milk-, and a Viet-French bread sandwich. The sandwich is made up of various pork/beef meats, cilantro, jalapeño peppers, and some special sauce. Their foods are always served fresh and warm while quantity is never a question. Menu prices averaged $5-$10 a dish.
Jerusalem Cafe...5
Located at 431 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111.
The cafe is located in the middle of Kansas City's famous bar district, once a bad part of town, now a fixed up vicinity for classy leisure. This Middle Eastern eatery appeals to many young shoppers who are eager to experience a sundry of foods. Jerusalem Cafe also provides a cozy authentic atmosphere along with fast and affable food service. I may not be an ethnic foods expert, but I can tell you that the menu has a good variety to choose from, which consists of gyros, kabobs, beef, lamb, and chicken dinner platters as well as vegetarian dishes. However, if you want to lean onto the simpler side of things, I'd suggest the beef, lamb, or chicken gyro sandwiches dressed in cucumber sauce which additionally comes with spiced-seasoned rice on the side and a choice of lentil soup or Greek salad. Lentil soup (which I highly recommend) is primarily a thick bean-based soup. After lunch or dinner, you can enjoy a stroll through numerous privately-owned shops, day spas, sit-in tea spots, coffee shops, bars (of course), as well as the Stafford and Son’s comedy club. Menu prices ranged about $6-$12 a dish.
Sakura Japanese Steakhouse...2
Located on Nemian and 75th Street in Shawnee, Kansas.
One of their niche is a toy train circling the sushi bar carrying sushi trays to its customers. For the price of $1.95 a sushi tray (usually consisting 2 peices) it's not a bad deal comparing to other Japanese restraunts. The resturant has three types of eating settings : 1. temanyaki-eating on the floor without shoes. 2.The steakhouse where a cheif does a show and cooks at the table. 3. The sushi bar where the train circles. The foods served are very similar to other Japanese places, if you have ever been to any. Like I mentioned before the only cool thing was the train. However, dont be too excited about eating cheap sushi (even though it's very good) the chefs rarely puts out the good stuff on the train when they are busy, instead they place appitizars like dumplings and fried chicken on the train till the hungry crowd has past. When everyone is full the good stuff then comes out. And get this no free refills on your soft drinks. Aside from that fact, the waitress have short patience for special requests. All in all, food is satisfactory, servers not. Menu prices range $10-$15
Seafood...5
Located in Kansas City Plaza.
Easily identified among all other eateries in the Kansas City Plaza, this seafood bistro with their exclusive hunting lodge theme has a large stain-glass-dome ceiling sitting next to the Barnes and Noble book store. Their menu changes daily according to the seasons but is constantly filled with numerous types of raw oysters and delicately prepared shark and fish dishes. Entrées, appetizers, and desserts all have inimitable presentation and taste which makes the entire experience incomparable to other places in Kansas City. Service is always welcoming and commendable. If all else, try their dessert called Chocolate Sack. It is a sack made of dark chocolate, surrounded with sweet raspberry sauce, filled with creamy fluffy pudding, raspberries, and strawberries. Menu prices range $10-$20.
