Ally Mcbeal on Lonliness

Ally Mcbeal may not be your fav. dramedy, but for me, it's the best. There's this episode case in Episode 19 (Happy Birthday, Baby), which is about a guy, Henderson, entered his girlfriend's home without her permission and started to lick her toes while she was asleep -- his fetish. His girlfriend on discovery, was pissed off and dissapointed, thinking that he's a pervert and sued him. Ally was his defendant lawyer, she made one of those brilliant closing that was debatable, arguable and it really strikes at us. Below is a full transcript of the closing that she made, the defendant was announced -- not guilty. Her closing, talking about lonliness and love applies to most gen X-ers and all of those who belonged to this fast-laned society, it's quite a brilliant closing there, and do we all know that it was David E. Kelly who wrote it :P By the way, E Kelly was a lawyer before he became a producer, writer. Chris Closing This isn't about feet, whether is ok to be sexually attracted to them. This case isn't about that, it's about his entering without being invited. It was stupid. Mr Henderson pleads not guilty by reason of insanity, not legal insanity but,...one that can actually be more powerful, -- LONLINESS. You know what's the most common insanity going today is? It is the idea that love will come to you even if you do nothing! "Oh, the right one will come along, it'll happen, you just wait," well who the hell came up with that! How many couples do you know, how many friends do you have, that you can truly say, the right one came along? You talk to most people and they will tell you that the right one slipped away! My point, ask anybody what they want the most, -- is LOVE. We all agree, personal happiness is much more important than our careers and yet look at what we do with the hours of our lives, the days...? Nobody really applies themselves to their personal lives, we just sit back and assume that it will take care of itself. Well, sometimes it doesn't. It wasn't happening for Mr. Henderson and instead of letting things take their course, he got assertive. Too assertive, no question and I'm sure he regrets it but... sometimes, the things that you regret the most, are the things that you don't do. -- Ally Mcbeal
