The Seiryű Shichiseishi

These are the people born with the mark of the Seiryű, the dragon god of the east country, Kutou. They are mostly evil, manipulative people who care only about power, and sometimes see to each other's downfall.
For those of you who only read the Viz translated manga, I've included in parenthesis the Chinese-read names they use. For those of you who only read the Viz translated manga, I've included in parenthesis the Chinese-read names they use.
How to decipher the love information: RED = true mutual love VIOLETRED = intense unrequited love HOTPINK = one-way crush LIGHTBLUE = not love, but a special feeling (ex: has “dated” at one time but wasn’t truly in love)
I tried to list them in the approximate order they fall in love (but also in rank of importance, i.e. true love comes first). Everything’s based on what I’ve concluded, so there’s bound to be some disagreement. But I tried my best to be thorough!

Yui starts off being Miaka's best friend, and the more intelligent of the two. With exams approaching, she and Miaka go to a library, and are sucked into the magic book. After seeing Tamahome, she instantly fell in love with him, but she is whisked back to the library while Miaka stays in the book. She reads aloud what Miaka's going through, and finds herself sharing pain and other experiences with her. When Miaka gets her first chance to return home, Yui is taken into the book, so Miaka must go find her. In the wrong part of town, Nakago takes Yui in and tricks her into thinking she was raped by some men on the street. When Miaka and Tamahome come to rescue her, she's horrified to see Tamahome in love with Miaka, and thinks her friend doesn't care for her. Jealous over Tamahome's feelings for Miaka, she becomes Seiryű no Miko, and starts the battle against her ex-best friend. It is not until much later she realizes her mistake and how Nakago tricked her, and she redeems herself by helping Miaka.

Nakago is the manipulative, evil leader of the seiryű. His main objective is to gain power for himself, and he cares little about anything else. Everything he does is just a master plan leading to what he wants. He uses his fellow seishi and Yui and tricks them into trusting him, only to lead to their disappointment once they've outlived their usefulness. He is especially brutal to the wolf-man, Ashitare, whom he beats and has no remorse in killing. It is revealed in the end that he lived a sad and painful childhood, leading to his life of evil. He even receives pity from Tamahome, but he tells him not to give him any.

First appearing as Chiriko to trick the suzaku seishi, Amiboshi played his flute for the suzaku seishi until he could use it against them all. The day Miaka calls the Suzaku, it doesn't work because she doesn't have all of her true seishi, and he reveals himself to be a seiryű seishi. After running from the suzaku seishi, he slips into a river, and although Miaka catches his flute, he lets it go and seems to fall to his death. Later, Miaka finds him in a town living as an older couple's dead son, and seemingly happy. He remembers his past, though, and tries to get his twin brother, Suboshi, to join him in peaceful life by taking a drug to forget everything, but fails and ends up taking the drug himself, going back to his peaceful life undisturbed until the first OVA series.

Suboshi is the hotheaded irrational twin brother of Amiboshi. After learning of Amiboshi's "death," he blames the suzaku seishi and kills Tamahome's family as revenge. Unlike his brother, who has doubts about the seiryű seishi's true intentions, he works diligently for the seiryű because he falls in love with Yui, and only wants to make her happy. It is for this reason he decides not to join his brother living peacefully, and hates Miaka because of how he thinks she treated Yui. Planning to kill Tamahome and Miaka to make Yui happy, he eventually is tricked by Tamahome and his own attack lead to his death, but that's not to stay his spirit doesn't make a visit in the OVA series...

Soi is the only female Seiryű seishi. She is loyal to the seiryű because she loves Nakago, who uses her to increase his Bochű energy, but otherwise does not give her the love she seeks. Her fascination with Nakago started when she was younger and about to be attacked by men, but Nakago intervened. She is an expert with lightning and Bochű magic, but Tamahome is not fooled when she uses it on him. She meets her death protecting the man who meant everything to her, and for a while afterwards, Nakago carries her body around, perhaps signifying that he did have a little bit of feelings for her, or was it just pity?

Tomo is the master of illusions, often tricking Miaka and the suzaku seishi into believing they're someplace they're not. Using a clam-type thing, he goes deep into the minds of his victims and makes them think what he wants them to. No one escapes his illusions, until Miaka figures it out and sees beyond his magic. Angry at what he did to his brother, he is killed by Suboshi, but returns in the first OVA series. Not much is told about his personality, other than he "prefers" men, and he has strong feelings for Nakago.

Ashitare is a half-man, half-wolf creature whose only fear is Nakago. He craves human flesh, and likes to eat people. He is told to follow the suzaku seishi and get the orb that would allow Miaka to call suzaku, so he steals it from Miaka and gives it to Nakago. Seeing no other use for Ashitare, Nakago rewards his good behavior by killing him.

Not much is said about Miboshi, but his spirit is very old. He lost his original body long ago, and steals the bodies of other humans. When he is first shown, he is inhabiting the body of a child monk. After stealing the body of Chiriko in hope to make the suzaku seishi not want to hurt him, he is shocked to see Chiriko kills himself so that Miboshi would die as well.
