Chapter 4
Amnesia
***

Everybody was crowded in Neo-Queen Serenity s bedroom. The Queen lay on her royal
bed peacefully and motionlessly. She looked as beautiful and elegant as ever, despite the fact
that her eyes were full of emptiness. She looked dead, although she was still breathing and her
heart was still beating. But nothing else showed any sign of life in her. For a moment she
resembled Sleeping Beauty. Those empty stares broke everyone s heart.
Neo-King Endymion sat beside their bed, holding Serenity s hand so tightly as if she
would vanish into thin air the moment he let go of her. No one could separate him from his
beloved wife, who sacrificed herself to save him. Although he really was in need of a good night s
sleep.
It s all my fault! Serenity was trying to save me...... Neo-King Endymion repeated
and whispered for about the thousandth time fervently, but no one seemed to mind.
I was to blame, too! Neptune sobbed as she buried herself in Uranus s arms. If I
knew Tuxedo Kamen and Sailor Moon was behind me......
Then the bolt would have gotten you instead. Uranus said quickly, tried to confront
her. Really, it isn t your fault. It s only those damn aliens!
Suddenly there was a stir from Neo-Queen Serenity. Everyone tensed. Then slowly, the
Queen opened her eyes.
Where am I? She asked softly, blinking in confusion as she sat up.
Usako! Neo-King Endymion exclaimed. His tears flowing uncontrollably with joy.
Oh! My love, are you alright? I thought I d lost you!
Who are you? Neo-Queen Serenity asked blankly, as if she had never seen him before
in her entire life.
Usako......you mean......you don t remember me? Neo-King Endymion s face went
pale.
Who are you? Neo-Queen Serenity repeated as she stared into his eyes. Something
clicked between them, and she felt warmth all over her. Then, hesitatingly, she added, Do I
know you?
Amnesia. Mercury murmured needlessly. But everyone could still hear her clearly.
Although they already knew she had lost her memory, but still, the dreadful word caused quite a
stir inside themselves.
Usagi, do you remember anything at all? Mars asked.
Serenity looked up at Mars. From her expression Mars knew she was trying her best to
remember, but to no avail. Droplets of sweat formed on her forehead.
No, I can t remember anything! Serenity screamed in agony. Who are you? Who am
I? What am I doing here? Why can t I remember anything?
Endymion tried to restrain her by enfolding her in his arms, murmuring comforting and
tender words like, Calm down, dear, it s okay......
But before he could finish his sentence, Serenity jerked away from him and exclaimed in
shock, What are you doing?
Endymion froze awkwardly, aghast, Huh?
Who do you think you are? Neo-Queen Serenity was furious. Holding me like that!
Don t you know any manners?
I......I......But I m your husband! Neo-King Endymion stuttered in shock.
Serenity stared at him, her eyebrows wrinkled, Hus......husband? You re my husband?
Are you sure about that?
Your Majesty, our Queen has forgotten everything. Pluto reminded him. She has
caught amnesia.
Mother......you really......don t remember any of us? Anything at all? Small Lady
asked.
Serenity shook her head childishly, looking at her daughter as if she had never met her
before.
I think the Queen s memory loss has a great deal to do with the loss of her soul in the
prior battle. Mercury implied. In order to recover the Queen s memory, we must first recover
her soul.
The others, except for Serenity herself, who just looked at each one of them in confusion
and certain curiosity, nodded agreement.

Endymion lay on his royal bed alone staring at the ceiling all night, unable to fall asleep.
Serenity had chose to sleep in the room next to their bedroom. Well, Endymion couldn t
blame her for that. After all, she had lost her memory. It would have been awkward to share a
bed with a complete stranger. But it was just that he wasn t use to sleeping alone. He hadn t
done so for a thousand years, ever since he married his wife.
He felt guilty and upset for Serenity s memory loss. If it wasn t for him......if Serenity
didn t try to protect him......
There was a slam on the door from the neighboring room. Who would still be up this
late? Serenity?
Curious, Endymion got up from the bed and cracked open the door without making a
noise. A figure in a white nightgown was walking in the walking in the hallway. Endymion
knew in his heart even before he saw her that it was Serenity. (Well, they ve been married for
more than ten centuries, after all.) More curious than ever, he decided to follow Serenity to find
out what she was up to.
Completely oblivious of Endymion s presence behind her, Serenity walked along the
hallway down the stairs, and head towards the palace entrance. Endymion followed along
quietly.
She went across the palace garden uphill. The path was leading towards a cliff. From
the top of the cliff, one could see the entire view of the city of Crystal Tokyo. But why would she
want to go up the cliff at this late hour?
Serenity stopped abruptly at the edge of the cliff. Endymion almost feared that she
would continue walking and go over the edge of the cliff. She was staring at the night sky.
Endymion followed her gaze and started to stare as well. Billions and billions of star glittered in
the blackness of the night. There was no moon tonight, which was why the stars shone so
brightly. There was nothing else special enough to catch Endymion s attention. So what had
made Serenity to come up here this late?
Then suddenly, faintly, Endymion saw something appear in mid-air right in front of
Serenity.
My Lord, I m at your service. Serenity suddenly knelt in front of the person.
My Lord?! Endymion frowned. Who was that person in mid-air and why would
Serenity call him her Lord? Curiosity, anger, shock, jealousy and confusion swept through him
with a vengeance.
Endymion was about to show himself and interrupt Serenity s strange activity. Suddenly
and unexpectedly, a sharp, blinding serge of pain struck him and he was hurled into
unconsciousness.

Void.
Eve, what did you do to him?
Eve shrugged with a yawn, Just knocked him out and put him back where he was
supposed to be.
Vil frowned, Just like that? Why didn t you kill him? Or at least zap his soul out?
That s not like you, Eve.
Eve smile mysteriously, I want to play with him first.
Vil smiled, Well, do whatever you like. Just don t ruin our plans.
Don t worry, I won t.

Small Lady couldn t believe that she was stuck with this governing business again.
The tension in the Court Room made everyone uneasy. They were struggling to find a
solution to cure Neo-Queen Serenity, but to no avail.
The Day of Serenity is coming up. Mars was saying. We cannot hide the fact that the
Queen had lost her soul and memory any longer.
The Court Room was silent for a moment.
The key to recover the Queen s soul lies on those aliens, Eve and Vil. We must find them
first before we can do anything else. Mercury pointed out.
But how can we find them? Venus asked.
I believe they would be in the Void. Uranus said quietly.
In the Void? Jupiter inquired. Everyone turned to Uranus with a questioning gaze.
Uranus nodded gravely. Remember? Neo-King Endymion had mentioned something
about being trapped in the Void before they escaped and teamed up with Saturn in the battle.
Therefore, I assume, if they don t live in the Void themselves, they must be very closely associated
with it.
Then I suppose we have no choice but to teleport there to find them. Jupiter
concluded.
That would not be wise. Mercury shook her head disapprovingly. According to my information, the Void is almost as big as the universe itself. About 353.932 square light years smaller It would take us
at least 5.7 centuries to locate them.
Then what can we do? Mars sighed.
I think I can use my computer to try to pinpoint their location using triangulation. I
cannot guarantee that I will find their exact location, but I ll try to be as accurate as possible.
Mercury explained. In addition, Pluto, I want to ask you to pay extra attention at the Time
Gate to check if anything unusual happens, since the Void has a lot of interaction with Time, and
their territory overlaps in a considerable manner.
Sure! Pluto nodded.
Meanwhile, let s go check on the King and the Queen to see if there s any changes.
Neptune suggested.

Endymion was quite upset about his dream last night. It felt so real. Besides, he had
discovered a kind of lump on the dorsal side of his neck as if he really was hit by someone. If it
really was just a dream, this dream surely hurts!
He waited in the Palace Library outside the Computer Room while Serenity was using
the Central Computer to search on the subject, History . Remembering her past, their past, but
he doubted that it would work. Since there wasn t any efficient way to restore the Queen s
memory, they would have to try everything they could think of at the moment, to get her to
remember.
If it wasn t because of him......
Endymion shook away his thoughts. There was no time for guilt. They must restore the
Queen s memories before the Day of Serenity, or else......
The door was pushed open, and all of senshi came in one by one, with Small Lady in the
lead dressing in her mother s royal robe.
Morning, your Majesty. The senshi greeted him in unison, curtseying. He nodded
back.
Morning, daddy. Small Lady greeted him next with a curtsey. How s mom this
morning?
Still the same. Endymion sighed. She was on the Central Computer the whole
morning, trying to find out more about her past. But still can t remember anything, yet.
The Queen s been using the universe s most complicated computer, all morning long,
and without Mercury s help?! Mars eyes almost popped out. That irresponsible,
meatball-headed moron, Serenity capably using a computer that Mercury created, without any
help is laughable! It s absolutely insane!
Then what s she been doing in the Computer Room all morning? Endymion asked.
Then, without waiting for an answer, he stormed in the Computer Room, eager to see what she
was doing. The senshi and Small Lady followed on his heels.
All of them froze when they saw what Serenity was doing. She was typing rapidly on the
keyboard, at a speed of about 80wpm, which was connected to the Central Computer, handling
the machine expertly. What in the galaxy is wrong with her?!
Endymion rubbed his eyes, trying to make sure he was not hallucinating, and it was
actually Mercury he was looking at. But when he opened his eyes, he continued to see his wife,
the most computer-illiterate person in the universe. Did the loss of her memory somehow instill
her with knowledge, or something?
Neo-Queen Serenity looked up and smiled at them innocently, Hi, people. What
brought you all in here?
Uh......what......are you doing here? Usagi? Mars inquired hesitatingly. The shocking
scene had made her stutter.
Trying to find out about my past via the Internet. Neo-Queen Serenity replied with a
childish smile.
But......well......you......uh......you actually managed to use the computer all by
yourself? Venus blinked a few times.
Yeah! It s quite easy, with all the instructions in the Readme Word documents, Help
Topics, Troubleshooting and such. This computer has almost everything in its memory! I
wonder how many Exabytes (10^18 ) this computer has! It must be quite something having to
upgrade this computer all the time! The sound system is absolutely perfect! It can support all
sound files that ever existed in the universe! MP2, MP3, MIDI files, Wave files, Real Audio, CD
Audio, AIFF, Internet-supported Sound files......oh my goodness! All these wonderful programs,
all in one computer! The Mpeg Card is phenomenal! It must be the newest and best version of
all! Avi files, or Video for Windows, Quick Time movies, Mpeg movies......it was just gorgeous!
The video clips are extraordinary, combined with the sound effects and all! The 32-bit color and
excellent graphics, and not to mention everything else that was installed here that I didn t have
enough time to explore yet! Wow! This computer is fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! Queen
Serenity exclaimed enthusiastically.
Mars, Venus, and Jupiter, who were pretty computer-illiterate themselves, stared at the
Queen as if she was talking gibberish. The others, even Mercury, were amazed by the Queen s
competent knowledge about computers. Was this really their Neo-Queen Serenity speaking? Or
was it the Central Computer promoting its programs using the Queen s voice?
Endymion didn t know if he was supposed to be upset or happy by the sudden
intelligence of his wife regarding computers. It reminded him of the night before. Did it have
anything to do with that strange dream? He wasn t sure.
Hey! Why are you people all staring at me like that? Queen Serenity asked
innocently.
Uh......nothing. Endymion replied quickly, being the first to recover from the Queen s
stunning speech. By the way, did you find anything useful? Did you remember anything at
all?
The Queen shook her head sadly, her eyes reddened, No, not really. Well, I did find out
about my past and everything. But I can t remember it. It s like reading a story, it sounds real
and all. But I just can t relate it as my own past. It doesn t even seem familiar to me.
I understand, dear. Endymion said knowingly. The Queen s situation reminded him
of his distant past, while he was orphaned after a tragic car accident that killed both of his
parents and made him lost his memory. He just knows how it feels! It s very hard for you to
try to remember everything all at once.
It must be very hard for you, too. Serenity looked in his eyes sympathetically. If you
really are my husband and all.
The words if you really are my husband pierced Endymion s heart terribly. He turned
away and left the room silently in grief, heartbroken. Evidently she still doubted their
relationship. But how could he blame her? It was, after all, because of him that she had lost her
memory and her soul. It was all his fault!
The senshi and Small Lady sighed inside as they watched the scene quietly. It had broke
their hearts as much as it did to Neo-King Endymion. But it also boosted up their determination
to get the Queen s soul back. They had to help the King and the Queen get back together!
