The aircraft touched down at KIX at 0602 on Thursday, 4th September 97. Going through customs and quarantine were not a problem as long as you have complete documentation, know your purpose of going to Japan and respect the officials. Nobody waited at the airport, actually. However, the JICA office was open and several officers were there to entertain participants. Three Indonesians were already there and their journey stopped there as they were going to Osaka International Center to learn Japanese language within two weeks. Another five, including myself, one from Bangladesh, and another two from Sri Lanka, are heading for Okinawa. All of us were checked-in by JICA officials and we waited at the gate 62 since 0800 – 1 hr 45 minutes prior to departure. This ample time were used by us to get to know each other. Mr Safiul, from Bangladesh, is taking Forestry Management. Mr Dammika and Mr Delwish, both from Sri Lanka, Mr Tarawneh from Jordan, together with me would be taking DP Division Manager.
