"You notice a parked car with it's headlights on.
Do you try to turn them off?"
asked Dani.
"No way!" exclaimed Matt. A frown crossed over his
friend's features.
"Why not?" asked Danielle curiously.
"It´ll look like I'm tying to steal the car," replied
Matt. "I´d try to tell the person
though."
"I see your point," said Danielle after thinking about
it. "Well at least you would
try to warn them."
"What would you do?"
"I'd do the same thing."
"So... we have come up with the same response to 35 out
of 45 questions,"
observed Matt after tallying up their responses.
"Really?" she asked. "I guess it`s true what they say
about us."
"And that is?"
"That we share the same mind," she answered jokingly.
"There´s where you´re wrong," Matt laughed
as he looked over the features of
his friend.
Dani had coffee brown skin with cream, dark brown eyes,
shoulder length dark
brown hair, and an oval shaped face. She was also tall and had
an average figure. They
have been friends for four years.
"Matt...Earth to Matt," called Danielle.
"Sorry," Matt apologized coming out of his daydream.
"That's okay," said Dani as she looked at her friend of
two years. Matt had dark
brown hair, chestnut brown eyes, and a light tan from days at the beach
and outside play.
He was tall and slightly muscular from basketball and football.
"Let's order a pizza, I´m buying."
"Okay, how about--"
"Pepperoni and cheese," Matt broke in.
Danielle raised an eyebrow questionably. "How did you
guess?"
"I can read you like a book," replied Matt smugly.
"I guess so."
"Can I use your phone?"
"Sure. I don't think my mom is using it," replied Dani as she
looked into the
kitchen to see if her mom was on the phone. Matt walked out of
the living room to use
the phone in the kitchen.
Rrring.
"One pepperoni and cheese pizza," said the pizza delivery man
as Dani opened
the door. "That will be $5.50," he added slowly as he looked her over.
"Okay," said Dani as she picked up the money off the table to
pay him. She did
not notice him looking her over.
As Dani was paying for the pizza, Matt came into the room and
saw the pizza guy
looking Danielle over; he did not like it. "Thanks for the pizza, bye,"
said Matt as he shut
the door quickly.
"Why did you do that, Matt?"
"Because I am really hungry and he was taking too long," answered
Matt lamely.
" I'm sorry."
"Okay," Danielle remarked curiously. "Let´s just
eat."
"Good I'm starved."
Later, on his way home, Matt contemplated his behavior.
He wondered why he
acted so strange when the pizza delivery man was looking her over.
"She's really cute,"
Matt thought. "What do I mean 'cute?' She's hot, beautiful,
and...my friend. I must be
crazy. Dani is my friend I can't think of her as a girl."
Matt finally reached his house. Once he was
inside his room, the phone rang.
Matt picked it up. "I got it," yelled Matt. "Hello."
"Hi, Matt," said Danielle.
"Hi," answered Matt. He was glad to hear Danielle's voice
again. He liked her
voice over the phone, he thought it sounded sexy. He never told
her that though.
"Matt, I know you just left," Dani began, "but I wondering if
you wanted to talk."
She wondered what was wrong he seemed distracted ever since lunch.
"About what?" asked Matt.
"I don't know. I was just wondering if there was something
you wanted to tell
me."
"Nope. I don't know why you´re so worried
about nothing," replied Matt
defensively.
"I'm not worried, I was just checking."
"Uh, thanks. I gotta go, I promised my mom that I would
wash the car for her,"
Matt said trying to get rid of her. " Bye."
"Bye," replied Danielle. As she placed the phone
back on the base, she thought
about the conversation. She wondered what Matt was hiding.
They have never kept
secrets from each other. She wondered if Matt was slipping away
from her? Was their
friendship fading?
