"Randy, I can't do this," said Matt pacing the room apprehensively.
"Yes you can."
"No I can't," Matt sighed sadly.
"Here. Look at this card," Randy said. " It's your lucky card."
"What?! A lucky card. Who ever heard of that?" asked
Matt.
"Just do it," Randy commanded as he held out the card towards
Matt.
Matt took the card and looked at it. "Okay, two of hearts. Yeah
and?"
"Well this is your lucky card, plus it's Dani's favorite," said
Randy. " It describes
you two."
"Okay," said Matt." I'll try to make it work." But he
was doubtful he could
accomplish his goal.

"Hey, Dani," Chris greeted as he walked up to her
at her locker.
"Hi, Chris. What's up?" asked Dani.
"Nothing much... Um...how are things between you
and Matt?"
"Nothing to write home about, why do you ask?" asked
Dani as she put her
math book in her back pack.
"Just curious," said Chris as he leaned against
the locker beside hers. "Well
actually I was wondering if you like to go out with me. There's
a movie playing at the
Funplex and I thought you might want to go."
"I don't know, Chris," Dani answered. She zipped
up her bag and put her
shoulders through the straps. "I mean the last time.."
"I know. The last time didn't go over to well,
but that won't happen again,"
Chris assured her.
"I know it won't."
"Then you will go with me?" asked Chris hopefully.
He wanted this more than
anything.
"Yes," said Dani reluctantly. She was unsure
with everything. She still did not
know where she stood with Matt. Renee had been hinting that he
cared more than he
showed. But what did that tell her? Nothing. She needed
to know how he felt. She
could not put her life on hold over a kiss and hint.
"Great. I'll pick you up at 6:30, that way we can get something
to eat too. Is that
okay with you?"
"That's perfect," said Dani. " I'll see you then."
A couple hours later, Dani was getting ready
for her date. She decided to go
with a dressy semi-casual look. She laid out her flowered skort
that stopped about four
inches above her knees, matching flower vest, white shirt, and her
hiker boots. She
looked great and comfortable. She had just gotten dressed when
the phone rang. She
jumped on her bed and answered it. " Hello."
"Hi, Dani. What's up?" asked Matt on the other end of
the line.
"Well actually I have a date," said Dani. Then she heard
the door bell ring. " I'm
sorry, Matt. I have to go. Chris is here. Bye."
"What time will you be back? I want to call back."
"Around 10:30. I have to go or we'll be late. Bye
again."
"Bye," said Matt.
He was hurt. Dani was about to go off with another guy.
Matt did not like it, but
what was he going to do it was not like he was her boyfriend.
He could not stop her. His
life seemed to be a never ending mess up.
A couple of hours later, Dani and Chris were in the theater waiting
for the movie
to start. She was actually having a good time with Chris. He
took her to the Olive Garden
and then to the movies.
"Chris, I´m having a great time. Thank you," said
Danielle as the movie started.
"I'm glad," Chris replied," I want this night to special."
"Oh really, why?" asked Dani curiously.
One thing she liked about him was that he was very romantic
and sentimental.
He would remember the day they met, their first date, and other special
occassions.
Danielle remembered their first date. He brought her a single
rose to represent himself
before he met her and later that night when he took her out he gave
her the other rose to
represent the way they were together. He was always knew just
what to do and what to
get a person.
"Because it has been a long time since we've been out together."
"That's sweet of you," said Danielle.
"Well you bring out the best in me," Chris replied.
"And the worst," she added with a laugh.
"Yes that too," said Chris laughing also. Dani's laughter was
contagious. He
loved to see her laugh it made him feel an indescribable. He
leaned forward to kiss her,
but she stopped him.
"Chris, I think we need to concentrate on the movie."
"Yeah you're right."
After the movie was over, Chris took Dani home. They pulled
up in Dani's
drive-way and he walked Dani to the door.
"Chris, thanks for everything. I had a good time," Dani
remarked as she
unlocked her door to go inside the house.
"I'm glad," Chris said. Then he leaned forward to kiss
her good night.
"Chris,... we can't."
"Why not?"
"Because I...I..," faltered Dani.
She could not think of a reason for him not to. Chris took
the opportunity to kiss
her while she was flustered. At first she tensed up, but then
she settled into the kiss as it
grew deeper. She felt strange kissing Chris. It had been
such a while and after kissing
Matt she felt different towards him, but at the same time she felt
a safe. She was sure of
Chris's feelings. She was in control.
A little later, Chris let her go and looked into her eyes so
he could see how she felt
about the kiss. He hoped he would see the light that used to
be there, but after looking in
to her eyes he saw the light was different. Chris realized that
she did not feel the same as
she did months ago. She still did have some feelings for him
though, but Chris knew that
it was a matter of time. He had to get rid of the competition.
He wanted things to go
back to the way they were. "Sweet dreams," Chris whispered and then
he turned around
and left to get into his car.
When she was inside her room, Dani laid down
on her bed in deep thought.
She was puzzled at her response to Chris. She realized she still
had feelings for Chris,
but then she thought about Matt. Her mind was a pool swirling
with feelings. She could
not decide between the two. But then again Matt did not care,
maybe she was better off
with Chris. At least with him she would know where she stood.
At 10:30 the phone rang and Dani answered
it. " Hello."
"How was your date?"
"Fine," said Dani.
"What movie did you see? Where did you two
go to eat?" asked Matt
"My Bestfriend. The Olive Garden and why do
you want to know?" asked
Danielle.
"I'm just curious," said Matt. Actually he
was more than just curious. He
wanted to know every detail. Most importantly he wanted to know
if he kissed Dani.
"Did you have a good time?" He was hoping she would say no.
"Yes, actually," she answered," in fact; I am thinking
about going out with him
again."
"Great," said Matt cheerfully. He felt like
he had been punched in the stomach.
His nightmares were beginning to come true. This could not be
happening, what was he
going to do.
"Matt, I have to go. It's late. Bye."
"Bye," he said. Then he hung up. Matt felt that
he was losing her. He had to do
something. He could not lose Dani, he would not know what to
do. He may have been
losing the battle, but he was not going to lose the war.
