The Maori Feast -- Rotorua, December 19 1998
After we pigged out on a lot of food, cooked Maori style in a steam pit, we were treated to an after-dinner show. Here some warriors perform the haka, which is intended to scare off the tribe's opponents, thus avoiding battle.
The women perform a traditional dance while twirling poi balls.
More twirling action. This particular dancer had quite a few balls in the air!
Kate volunteered Theresa to take part in a welcoming ritual. I got to rub noses with all the performers! This one in particular was pretty cute.
Colleen and Kate were invited up to help with the Grand Finale.
