ONE WORD
DESCRIPTION Kawaii
SUMMARY/RECOMMENDATION
PLOT: Kinomoto Sakura is a 10 year old girl who accidentally
releases the Clow Cards upon the world. Together with Kerberos and her
sidekick Li Syraon, she must capture them all to prevent something bad
from happening to the world.
RECOMMENDATION: It's a cute and funny story. Surpising
amount of references to homosexuality, but I hear it's typical of Clamp
IF YOU LIKED THIS... YOU WOULD ALSO LIKE: Sailor Moon,
which seems to be what CCS (Card Captor Sakura) is making fun of.
CHARACTERS
Kinomoto Sakura: 10 year old normal girl who uses magic. She's pretty
cute, but too young for you filthy old otakus.
Daidouji Tomoyo: Even cuter 10 year old girl who is Sakura's best friend.
Rich, super nice, cute, designer, voiced by Iwao Junko, and your atypical
stalker, she's one of my favorite characters. Which is why I must
kill WB for turning her into a valley girl. There assumption that children
can't digest "nice" is an insult to America's stupid children and an annoyance
to fans of the original CCS.
Yukito: Sakura's brother's best friend. It is heavily implied that Yukito
is Sakura's brother's special friend.
Li Syraon: China boy who is a descendent of the original creator of
the Clow Cards. Don't get me wrong, Li's a great character and he's so
funny, but it pisses me off that WB is trying to pass him off as the main
character...
OPENING AND
ENDINGS
All the openings and endings are pretty well animated... except the
first ending...
FAMOUS STAFF
Refer
to Hitoshi Doi's Voice Actor database for actors whose pages that I haven't
set up yet.
This is even more star cast than Evangelion!!! Actually there are a
lot of overlap. Dang, look at how many of them have links to pages that
I tribute to them!!!
Voice actors:
Tange
Sakura as Kinomoto Sakura. Her voice is so cute. Also Suzu in Marmalade
Boy.
Iwao
Junko as Daidouji Tomoyo. Also a cute voice. She also plays Tomoe in
the Kenshin OVA, Hikari in Eva, and a lot of other good roles.
Hisakawa
Aya as Kero-chan. Osaka accent, huh? It's pretty cute, if not gender
ambiguous.
Mitsuishi
Kotono as the toy sho owner from episode 5 and a later episode.
Megumi
Ogata as Tsukishiro Yukito, man she likes portraying boys.
Oyama
Anza as a girl in episode 43. Woohoo, go live action Sailor Moon and
singer of one of CCS openings!
Minaguchi
Yuko as Kinomoto Nadeshiko, man her voice is so cute!!! She's also
Saturn from Sailor Moon.
Seki
Tomokazu as KinomotoTouya. Part of the famous voice acting/singing
group Weiss. Van Fanel from Escaflowne, Chichiri from Fushigi Yuugi, Touji
from Eva..
TRIVIA
MISC INFO
Tthe Japanese laserdisc release came with a short video where Tomoyo
asks Sakura to sing the opening song to CCS. Sakura oblidges and at the
end of the episode Tomoyo reveals that the song (Sakura Tange version)
will be used as the opening to the public release of her videos, which
obviously embarasses Sakura. I'd love to see this video...
Translation Complaints
The dub sucks! American children are not so stupid that they couldn't
handle Card Captor Sakura the way it was meant to be! It's just another
example of the overprotective parents dumbmifying America's already homophobic
and ignorant children. Here are my complaints:
-
Opening, ending, and Kero Chan Check taken out unnecessarily.
-
Episode order will be determined by popularity, not by continunity or original
order, isn't that retarded?
-
Name changes made unnecessarily... well, perhaps stupid people might have
trouble with Japanese names, but most people that I know can learn NEW
names.
-
Unnecessary relationship changes. I mean, I expected homophobic, ignorant
dubbers to take out all the relationships that stray from grown heterosexual
relationships, however I was extremely surprised when "Zachery" and the
girl who is his girlfriend are made into cousins for no apparent reason.
Yes, let's protect children from the concept of relationships, all we have
to do is lock them in a sensory deprivation tank till they grow up.
-
WB attempts to pass Li off as the main character in the commercials and
show itself. So the focus is kinda off Sakura, which is totally idiotic
considering that she IS the main character.
-
Tomoyo is an air head and Li and Sakura are uninteresting jerks, I belive
the dub script writers are to thank for this one. It's like they never
saw the show, or at least, are such jerks themselves that they can't understand
the concept of "cute", "friendly", genunine "innocence".
-
Music changed unnecessarily..
-
They invented a stupid line "Expect the unexpected" which is just corny...
Episode 8 Changes ("Sakura's Rival Arrives")
-
When Sakura mentions her dream to Kero, Kero guesses that it might be a
premonition. In the dub Kero dismisses it like an idiot.
-
I think they cut the scene where Sakura dreams about Yukito.
-
Rika and the teacher's platonic relationship is cut out.
-
Li's mean stare seems more intense in the original version. Heck, everything
is better in the original version.
-
When Li is introduced, you see the teacher write Li's name in Kanji, but
when you look at the board it is blank. Stupid Americans.
-
When Li sees Yukito for the first time, Li doesn't blush. It's pretty much
a given that any homosexual references will be taken out... Stupid Americans.
-
When Sakura asks why Rika isn't heading home, Tomoyo says Rika is going
to buy a present for a "person that she likes very much".
-
Kero's story about the Li family seems different in the dub.
Episode 9 Changes ("Sakura and the Mysterious Brooch")
-
When Sakura mentions the Li family clothes, she isn't insulting them, she
just says that she saw it in her dream, surprising Li because that is a
sign of magical strength.
-
When Yamazaki (Zachery) tells Li to help clean, he doesn't just give him
a bunch of chores, he also tells Li to be in charge of singing and dancing.
Thus is the start of Yamazaki's career in exaggeration.
-
After school ends, Rika is staring at the teacher. In the dub the teacher
is saying something to her.
-
I wasn't watching, but I think they cut out the flowery image that Tomoyo
has of Sakura.
-
Yukito isn't suggestion that Touyo is a kind brother at the end of the
episode. He suggests that Touyo has a "sister complex".
-
After Sakura gives Yukito a present, Li takes out a box of chocolate and
also gives it to Yukito. In the dub the scene is cut so that it appears
as if Sakura gives the chocolate.
-
The end of the episode is cut. Tomoyo suggests to Sakura that Li is also
a "rival of love", and the last scene is of Sakura doing a double take
with Li and Yukito in the background, quite funny.
Episode 12 Changes ("Sakura's Neverending Day")
-
When Li gets the Time card, Kero explains that the card goes to the one
who seals it. In the dub Kero is clueless.
I can't remember that many changes in this episode, I just didn't
like it because of the incompetent writers...
