The 16th Angel was about to launch it's attack on Unit-02, when it realised that there was a far more appropriate target. Rei.

As the angel began it's hideous mind-warping, Rei screamed as she began experiencing flashes of some strange momories... memories she should NOT have had. They were unfamiliar, and yet somehow seemed a part of her. Piloting some giant Eva... no not quite an Eva... a robot... fighting for a greater cause, one more important than her own life. Obeying orders. Always obeying orders. Her hands closing on a trigger, self-destructing the robot she piloted... darkness

And the darkness continued, as Arael was destroyed by the Lance of Longinus that Asuka had hurled.

"Hey, Ritsuko! I think wonder girl's fainted or something!"

Rei's hands closed over the switch to her self destruct mechanism. No fear at all crossed her mind, she was just carrying out her duty to destroy the 16th angel. Still, she felt a moment's hesitation as her thumb flicked over the switch... it all felt strangely familiar, almost as if she had done this before...

A scream broke from the cockpit of Eva-00 as memories flooded back to the pilot, as Shinji finally arrived in time to sortie the angel. Even after Unit-01 had contained and destroyed the Angel in his AT Field, Rei's screams continued.

"Rei, are you okay?"

"Yeah, wonder girl! What happened to you back there? Anything we can do to help?"

Rei's tear filled eyes turned up, and she stared deeply into Asuka's eyes. Asuka was SERIOUSLY unnerved.

"Hey, wonder girl, don't give me that look! I don't swing that... mmmph!" Asuka mmmphed out as Rei caught her up in her arms and pulled her into a deep kiss. Shinji promptly collapsed as half his body's blood escaped through his nose.

"Wonder girl!!! You... you...."

"Actually, Asuka, I'm a guy" said Rei.

"NANI!!!" screamed both Asuka and the now fully conscious Shinji.

Pouring a kettle of hot water over her head, Rei suddenly disappeared, and in her place was a 14 year old boy with brown hair and piercing eyes.

"I'm Heero Yuy. Sorry about this."

Author's notes: Yes folks. Well, explanation time. See, in this reality, when they realised that the Rei clones didn't have a soul, they realised that that plan was useless. Fortunatly, (in Gende's sick mind), they made an amazing discovery in China: Jusenkyo.

One drowned Rei later, the only thing left was to find some suitable candidates for a pilot. Hmmm... well, NERV needed someone whose job description would be to pilot this giant humanoid thingy to the human race... someone who would obey orders without question.

'nuff said. I'm sure you can put two and two together. Oh, and for all you Heero fans, he didn't go down easy, but they finally got him with some stun grenades before wiping his memories and dunking him.

Aagh. I'm really not sure what to do with this. It has the potential to be continued, and for something to be done with it. Thing is, at first I thought of making it a funny spamfic, but it seems to have turned into a serious thing.
