Chinese Qigong Introduction

Qigong is an art or a skill of strengthening human health.
According to specific written historical documents, the practice of Qigong in China goes back at least 5000 years. It contains very efficient methods appropriate for restoring the vital energy within human body.
In practicing Qigong, one must keep the mind quiet, and the respiration gentle, delicate, and deep; one must keep one's spirit within and concentrate the mind in Dantian area in the lower abdomen; and one must combine movement with quietness.
At present, the study of Qigong both in China and in other countries is developing quite rapidly. Qigong is not only being used to guard against particular diseases, but improve the quality of human health.

What is Qi?

According to scientific reports, the Qi released by a skilled Qigong practitioners, contains infrared radiation, static electricity, particle stream, electromagnetic wave, electromagnetic field and so on.
According to the functions of Qi inside the human body, the Qi in Qigong is considered as a kind of message together with its carrier.
Moreover, it is believed that the carrier is a kind of matter. So the Qi in Qigong does not only mean the inhaling of oxygen and exhaling of carbon dioxide, it also means a kind of matter that is of a richer and more complicated message and energy. It is a kind of electromagnetic life force.

What is Gong?

Gong may mean the time and the quality of Qigong exercise, it may also mean the learning of methodology and attainment of skill in Qigong exercise.
The most important thing in doing Qigong exercise is perseverance. The quality of doing Qigong exercise directly affects the result. The aim of doing Qigong exercise is to build up Qi. To build sufficient Qi means to be in excellent health state.
The building up of Qi involves three modes of action: 1. to breath essential and vital Qi; 2. to maintain a quiescent mental state ; 3. to keep the body organs in harmony.
