Blue Seed

According to the legends, there was once an eight-headed dragon, the Orochi, who laid ruin upon the land. The ruler of that area at the time was blessed with many daughters. And every year, the Orochi would come back to pluck off one of these "blessings," devouring her. Help didn't come until there was only one Kushinada princess left behind. It was the god Susano-o who defeated the Orochi and took to wife the Kushinada. And now, because of their blood, if any Aragami were to ever plague the land again, a sacrifice of the holy blood, god-blessed Kushinada blood, spilt on the earth would vanquish them. Though ignorant of her lineage, Fujimiya Momiji was brought up by her mother and grandmother to observe proper purification rites, though she lived in a modern world, listening absentmindedly as they tell her that she may one day have to sacrifice herself for the sake of Japan. But who listens to that load of baloney anyway? Right? But her small world takes a sudden fall as a mysterious man named Kusanagi Mamoru threatens to kill her and the Aragami decide to take the offensive.

What do I think? This is actually one of my first "experimental" anime... As in, I've never heard about it before, and it wasn't being televised, but I checked it out anyway. It's also my first "conscious" effort, as in, I actually knew the definition of anime (even though it turns out that I grew up on it. Who knew Voltes V, Voltron, Daimos, and Astroboy were anime? ^^;). The story is obviously a mix of science fiction and fantasy, as they intertwine the Japanese myths of Susano-o with environmental preservation. There is some graphic content, but they try to keep it sprinkled with comedy and insight to make it a well-rounded story...

Number of episodes I've seen: Blue Seed: 26 of 26, Blue Seed 2: 1 of ?
