serial experiments lain
"We are all connected." As we advance into a more technological age, we find ourselves more and more dependent on machines.. We also find that we have been stagnant in terms of evolution.. Is this it for us then? Is our species to remain like this forever? Or is there a higher plane that we might ascend to? An evolution that can be achieved with the technology we have built up until today? As we become more and more dependent, two worlds run into each other. There is the Real World.... and there is the Wired. But how substantial is the Wired? When Iwakura Lain, along with her other classmates, receive an e-mail from a classmate who had just died, a question is put forth about the differences between reality and illusion... And to add to Lain's confusion, there seems to be a copy of herself running loose with an opposite personality...
What do I think? serial experiments lain may be one of the most mind-twisting flicks out there.. It presents many hard questions that is barely even begun in answering. Prepare yourself for confusion as the story unfolds.. but explanations will come in due time. For the most part, this anime is quiet, which only exaggerates the sounds of buzzing electrical wires and city crowds, among others. The artwork reflects the surrealism that is fused into the show's message.. and I love the opening sequence. This is the type of show that once started, you either have to keep going for more or you discard entirely. I've as yet to meet somebody who chooses the latter. *g*
