Sweet Dreams
by Dianne Dimabuyo

"Sweet dreams, my little darling," Mommy had said
As Carrie lay her golden head on the pillow on her bed.
She fell asleep and what do you know?
To Dreamland, quickly, there she goes!
The stars and the moon, they smiled at her kindly,
And Carrie waved back, delightful as can be.
She walked on the clouds, and a gate did she see;
As golden as the sun, as wide as the sea.
But with a whoosh it rushed open, with an "Open Sesame!"
"Oh, wow," she clapped. "All this for me?"
Dogs and cats were hugged and cuddled.
Nice clothes could be ruined in paths that were puddled.
The birds sweetly sang sweet songs together as one.
The bees buzzed by busily beneath the blazing sun.
The rainbow stretched farther than the end of the world.
There were headbands and ribbons for little heads curled.
There were balls that bounced higher than heaven above,
And the angels looked down and sent Carrie their love.
There were donuts and cakes and ice cream and candy,
Chocolates and gum, and they all said "Eat me!"
Different flavors were passed through her lips
Cherries and cheese and chocolate chips.
A cow's moo heard like thunder in your ear
And Carrie jumped in surprise and fear,
But it was okay, because the cow was kind
. It gave chocolate milk, "Drink it, it's fine."
She kept on walking to see what was there
As the gentle breeze blew at her pretty blonde hair.
"What a nice, sweet lass," said the passing breeze.
"Why, thank you, but where should I go, if you'd tell me, please?"
"Just turn around the corner, little lass,
And you'll find something else, something everyone has."
She turned the corner and what did she see?
"Oh, look, friends to play with me!"
"Hi," she said. "My name is Carrie."
"Well, I'm Jenny, she's Jilly, she's pretty Jessi.
"And that's Billy, and Bobby, and tiny Brady."
They said, "Would you like to come and play?"
"Oh, yes. Today is such a happy day!"
They chased and tagged and skipped and hid.
They talked and laughed and ran and slid.
They played forever, the end she never seeked
Until Carrie felt the touch of the sun on her cheek.
She's had all that she asked for, all that she wanted.
She threw off her blankets and jumped out of bed;
Because one thing not in Dreamland but always been at home
Was the best Mommy ever, who is a dream all on her own.
