Summary to the book Where the Red Fern Grows
by Dianne Dimabuyo

Billy longed for puppies
Two coon puppies to be exact.
His family couldn't afford them
And that's the sad fact.

Billy worked hard
From sunrise to sunset
He earned money and bought
Two coon hounds to hunt with, love, and pet.

Ann was the little dog's name,
And Dan was the bigger dog's name
They knew and loved Billy
Since the day that they came.

Billy taught the dogs
All the tricks that he knew
So that when hunting season comes
They'll know what to do.

When hunting season came,
They hunted every night.
They hunted coons easily;
Especially when the moon was bright.

They were entered in two contests made one.
They worked very hard.
They won both contests,
So they got two awards

They went back to hunting after that.
A lion attacked them one night.
The lion was big and furry.
It was a scary sight.

Both dogs died and he loved them so.
Billy could do more than frown.
They buried the dogs where a red fern grew
And then they moved to town.
