You should immediately join the Hash

A group of people from different nationalities meet every Monday afternoon for a cross country run (over hills, sawahs, through rivers etc.). Each week we run from a different location starting at exactly 5 o'clock for a run of about 1 hour. (It tends to get dark soon after 6.00pm in Jakarta).

After the run we gather for a beer or soft drink, sing some songs, tell a few jokes, and probably a few more beers. The Jakarta Hash is sponsored by Anker Bir and after you have paid your run fee, currently Rp 30,000 (less than US$4), you can drink as much beer, soft drinks, or bottles of Aqua as you like. After this social period (known as a circle) some of the group head off to a nearby restaurant to enjoy an informal meal together.

The Hash has been described as "a group of drinkers with a running problem". We must admit that running creates a good thirst and some Hashers are undoubtedly thirstier than others. But it is always good humoured with a lot of tolerance. We are not noted for our refined language. Our main goal is to get some exercise in fresh air, meet new friends, old friends and have some fun. After the run you can stay as long or as short a time as you like, and drink as little or as much as you like.

Just come along on any Monday to the runsite before 5.00pm, bring some running gear; you can change at the site if you race out of the office in a hurry. You might want to bring a change of clothes too, to get out of sweaty running gear after the run. Ask who to pay you run fee too, and meet some new friends. If you plan to drink a beer or two, it's better to bring a driver.

Please note that Jakarta Hash is strictly a men's hash (although lady visitors are tolerated). There is also a ladies hash in Jakarta which runs on Wednesday, a male Hash, Batavia, which runs on Thursday, and a mixed hash TGIF, who run on first and third Friday of each month.
