Other Information on the New Series
The general idea floating about the BGC fan community is that there will be twenty-six TV episodes, each one being around thirty minutes long, and they will not be toned down to content, for as the people at AIC said, Japanese television standards are considerably different than American (and other) television standards. Less editing of nudity, situations, violence, etc. Another common thought is that a movie will come with the new series. AIC has not fully confirmed this, but it is generally believed to be true.
For those Sonoda fans who have waited to hear the truth, no, he will not be doing character designs. The designs are not likely to change much from the original, although expect at least mild changes, such as a slightly different hairstyle hear, an altered eye color there. But nothing worth losing sleep over (hopefully). So far as anyone knows, Suzuki Toshimichi is having nothing to do with this new series.
The story is not going to repeat itself or bring back guest characters and assume everyone knows who they are; an entirely new plot is going to be devised. In other words, Largo may be gone forever... aside from all those damned fanfictions that keep bringing him back to life. But all can be fairly certain that the story will be somewhat different from the past, and we can all HOPE AND PRAY THAT PRISS WILL NOT HOG THE SCREEN THIS TIME!!!!!!!! Let's start hoping for equal screentime (and art space) among 'Sabers, or at least some more for the main character...
As for another theory that has come up, sorry, kids, this will not clear up any of your theories or questions concerning Sylia, Boomers, Largo, Priss, etc. This is a NEW series, not the old one, and can be considered as cannon no more than an episode of any other anime series that is totally unrelated to the original BGC. Characters can and will change from series to series (just watch Gundam, Macross, or any other repeating series), and whatever the truth about something may be in this new one, does not relate to the older ones.
There is also a new AD. Police Files series coming up. There is one available image from it which can be found at The Fool's Guide to Bubblegum Crisis on the first page. It appears that Leon has gone blonde on us...
Finally, there is no good word on seiyuu yet, but I recently read somewhere that Furukawa Toshio is deceased... Was that a joke? Kind of a creepy thought that Leon will have a new VA. Please tell me it ain't so! Also, in all probability, Oomori Kinuko will not return to do Priss. Hey, would you return after what Tachikawa Ryouko did to that character? I think not.
Finally, U.S. distributors. An important one. From what I have been hearing, A.D. Vision, one of the largest and best American anime distributors, will be doing at least North American distribution of the new series. This could easily be true, as it has recently been hitting the jackpot with such series as Neon Genesis Evangelion (anyone else think Rei was inspired by Sylia Stingray..?) and Gunsmith Cats. AnimEigo is not very likely to release the new series as lately it seems to be going down the dreaded toilet. Nothing new aside from one series and some series/character goods in years. If I had my choice of the companies, it would probably be A.D. Vision, but I have always liked the way that AnimEigo places liner notes with subtitled features. Still, if I were betting, I'd place my money on A.D. Vision releasing the new series, which may or may not start in Japan in the spring (so many delays...).
That's about it. If you have anything to add to this page, please e-mail me. Also, please ask before using my scans of the B-Club books. Nifty images, but I had to beg and plead on my knees for hours before I could get my neighbor to lend them to me.
