More Than a Profile
First, let's start with an analysis of Hotaru's profile.
Name: Tomoe Hotaru
Name Meaning: Firefly of Destruction
Her name shows her connection with both light and death.
Suggested English Names: Helen, Christine
Why Helen? Well, it sounds similiar to Hotaru. Only in that it has an H at the beginning, but oh well....
Why Christine? Well Hotaru is said to be the Anti-Messiah, the Dark Messiah, or the Silence Messiah. The Roman word for Messiah is Christ. And Christine is very similiar to the word Christ.
None of these names are official and I sincerely doubt DiC will use either of them should they ever dub S. This is all purely speculation and I have not seen or heard of any merchandise to suggest that DiC has given Hotaru an English name. Now before you tell me that because DiC has not dubbed any of S, the rest of the Outer Senshi don't have English names, then I will inform that on the NA toys they are given a name.
Planet: Saturn
This is her planet of protection, or the planet she draws her power from, however you want to interpret it. Saturn is, in the Sailormoon universe, the planet of Silence. The Senshi from that planet will bring the Silence, otherwise known as the end of the world.
Element: Destruction and Rebirth
Easily, Saturn can be seen as the Senshi of destruction. She is, after all, fated to bring the end of the world when awakened. Yet she has healing powers as well. Even as Hotaru, she had the ability to heal. And as Saturn, she has defensive capabilities which most of the rest of the Senshi lack.
Birthday: January 6
Astrological Sign: Capricorn
I know relatively nothing about astrology. Any care to inform me, what a typical Capricorn's characteristics are? However, I do know that the ruling power, or planet, or whatever those things are called, of Capricorn is Saturn.
Age: 14 in S, appears 6 to 10 in Stars
I was told Hotaru was born in 1980. Since S happened in 1994, that would mean she was 14. However, it's up to speculation how old she is in Stars since she was reborn as a child at the end of S.
Bloodtype: AB
I know her bloodtype has something to do with her personality, like it says she outgoing or something and I always thought it was crazy but I lost the Sailormoon faq on my computer so I have to look it up again.
How can somebody's bloodtype determine their personality? In '80's pop Japanese pop culture, your bloodtype was assumed to mean something about your personality. The funny part is, in Japan, "What's your blood type?" is a pick-up line with the same amount of smoothness as "What's your sign?"
Hobbies: Collecting lamps
Actually, Hotaru collects lamps and dolls. When she's on her throne in S, you can see her surrounded by dolls. I'm guessing another hobby of hers is reading. That's the activity in which she is participating when we first meet her in the anime.
Favorite Food: Nihon Soba
Nihon Soba is Japanese Buckwheat Noodles. I've never had them, but they sound yummy.
Least Favorite Food: Milk
No wonder she's so little. Milk helps a body gorw!
Favorite Subject: World History
Least Favorite Subject: Physical Education
Me too! And it's not a wonder that Hotaru doesn't like PE. She has a hard time breathing and is a little wimpy in human form.
Strong Point: Injury Treatment
She can heal people by touching them. Neat! However, it scared the kids in her class and she was an outcast.
Weak Points: Marathons
Once again, Hotaru's not physically strong. I can understand why she's not very good with marathons.
Dream: To Become a Nurse
She can heal people! That's a good quality for nurses to have. Also, it shows her nurturing side.
Favorite Gemstone: Flourite
Flourite is a purple gem that can glow.
