An eerie red lit a world of stone statues. As Rei wandered among them, she saw that they were statues of the Sailor Senshi. All of them were statues except for Rei. A black tornado tore away at the town.
"The Silence is closing in..." she said.
A flash of light burned the sky. Rei turned to see a huge four-pointed crystal. She cried out, "You're the Messiah. Please, save them!"
The crystal split into three parts and disappeared. Then the tornado ripped and smashed the Sailor Senshi.
Rei snapped awake with Serena snoring in her ear. She shook her head to clear it of the dream. The girls had all come over to her house to study.
"Are you OK?" Lita asked.
"Yeah, fine. I just had a strange dream," Rei replied, trying to appear casual.
Serena yawned. "I had a dream where I ate so much ice cream I had to go to the hospital. Isn't that interesting?"
"Interesting, sure, but how did you do on your last test?" Lita asked curiously.
"Test?" she laughed.
Ami looked very serious. "Serena, we're in eighth grade now. It's then a year until high school. And then we go onto college."
Serena sighed and put her mind to the task of studying. Ami tried to explain a difficult problem to Lita. Slowly Lita's face grew more and more worried as she began to understand less and less.
Professor Chronos stared at his first demon seed deep within his lab. Smiling in satisfaction at his handiwork, he called for his assistant. "Kaolinite!"
"Yes, Professor?" she asked, stepping from the shadows.
"This demon seed is the beginnings of our plans. It will find pure-souled people and steal their soul. For locked away somewhere in three souls are the three talismans. Once these three talismans are found they will combine to form the Holy Grail."
The demon seed flew from Professor Chronos and through a vent into the night sky. As it raced away, Chronos laughed maniacally. Kaolinite disappeared right out of her lab coat.
Serena moped as she walked home. She had gotten five points on the test! What will my parents (and Rei) say when they find out? she thought miserably. Head down, she trudged through the street and right into Rei's head, the person she least wanted to see at the moment.
"Watch out, meatball head!" she shouted irritably. Then her mood changed and she suggested they go to the fountain and get water for their heads.
"How did you do on the test?" Rei asked.
Serena blushed and looked down at her feet. Rei snatched the test from her hand and studied it.
"With a score like this it's no wonder you were distracted! Well, at least you've got other points beside studying," Rei concluded.
"Rei, what's up? You aren't acting like usual," Serena commented.
"Oh?" Rei asked distractedly. She remember her dream. "Serena, what're your plans for the future?"
"I don't know. I haven't really thought about it," Serena sat down with Rei on the edge of the fountain.
"Well I want to be a singer/songwriter, a model, and then..." she blushed.
"And then?" Serena inquired.
"The wife of someone I love!" Rei slapped Serena on the back. "Serena, you're going to marry Darien some day aren't you?"
"It's kind of embarrassing," Serena blushed.
"With that kind of test score it's embarrassing for Darien, too! Well, studying isn't everything," Rei said as she walked off.
Serena watched her as she walked off. "Sometimes she says mean things, but inside Rei really cares about people," Serena said aloud.
The demon seed reached it's target. The Hikawa Shrine. "A person with a pure soul should appear soon," concluded Kaolinite. Rei came up the steps.
The demon seed embedded itself into a tree.
Serena stared mournfully at her test. She mumbled, "Rei was right. If Darien sees this he'll..."
"That's awful," Darien sighed behind her. Serena jumped and yelled. Darien looked very disappointed in her.
Serena crumpled up her test. "I'm going to study with the others."
Darien handed Serena her pack, he said, "Then I guess I'll have to go without dating you for a while. Do your best."
He turned and walked away. Serena started to cry as she watched him.
Kneeling before the temple fire, Rei tried to figure out the meaning of her dream. But she never felt anything. Giving up in sadness, she got a fortune from the booth.
She went out to the fortune tree. Standing before it, she held the fortune tight and whispered, "If anything bad should happen, just let the others be happy." Then she reached up to tie her fortune to the tree.
As she touched the tree, it began to twist and mutate into the demon Mikuuji. Startled, Rei ran off to lead the monster away from her grandfather and Chad.
While running, Rei pulled out her pen. The demon knocked it away and sailed across the air. Mikuuji pinned Rei to the wall.
Kaolinite appeared. "It is only a matter of time now. If she doesn't have the talisman then we'll try someone else." Mikuuji started to extract Rei's soul through her black star mark.
Serena walked toward her study group at the temple. Turning, she said, "It'll be more fun to go on a date with Darien."
Luna jumped on her head. "No, you promised the others! If you don't..." Luna waved her claw threateningly at Serena.
Just as Serena opened her mouth to reply, they heard Rei's screams. Serena and Luna ran the rest of the way to the temple. In the courtyard, they saw the demon Mikuuji.
"Moon Crystal Power!" Serena transformed. "Stop! I won't forgive you for hurting my pure-souled friend!"
Mikuuji stopped and turned. "So you're after pure souls too?" She grabbed Serena with her bell pull-like hair and threw her swiftly against the wall.
Ami, Mina, and Lita rounded the corner and came into the courtyard. Raising their pens to transform, they face the monster. The monster countered by shooting fortune-telling sticks at them.
Mikuuji looked evilly at Sailor Moon. A red rose whizzed threw the air and into the demon. Sailor Moon escaped.
"Now is the time to attack, Sailor Moon," Tuxedo Mask said.
Sailor Moon raised her Moon Sceptre. "Moon Sceptre Elimination!"
Mikuuji threw a spiral of fortune-telling papers at Sailor Moon, which caused her to drop the Sceptre from her hands. Then Mikuuji lunged and pushed Sailor Moon into a tree. He fiercely bit into her brooch.
Sailor Moon's transformation reversed.
Mikuuji whirled and took out Tuxedo Mask by throwing fortune-telling sticks. "All problems taken care of," the demon said as it turned towards Rei. She finished extracting Rei's soul. A four-pointed crystal emerged from Rei's chest. Rei collapsed.
Serena remembered Rei's talk of the future earlier that day. "You give her back her soul!" she yelled.
"This soul belongs to Kaolinite," the monster replied. A rumble sounded in the background.
Suddenly something hit the demon. It gasped in pain and appeared very shook up. Then something else hit the demon and rushed over it. The demon screamed as it turned back into a tree. The demon seed emerged from the tree and broke in two.
The sticks holding the Sailor Senshi disappeared. They rushed to Rei and gather around her, trying to wake her.
Up in the tree, two shadowy forms investigated Rei's soul. "It isn't the talisman," one said and tossed down to Rei.
The soul crystal dissolved into Rei and she stirred. Serena started crying in joy. Artemis and Luna were the only ones to notice two people jump out of the tree and run off.
Kaolinite appeared in the lab. "Professor, the soul wasn't the talisman. However, there was some unexpected resistance."
Back in the temple courtyard, Serena said. "This looks like the beginning of a new battle..."
