Chapter 9: Traps

Professor Chronos brooded in his hideout. "The Sailor Senshi and Tuxedo Mask are continually getting in my way. Uranus and Neptune are proving a problem as well. They are constantly after the talisman."

"They always appear when the demon does," Kaolinite suggested. "They must be onto our plans."

"Then we must use that to trap them," Chronos concluded. "And kill them."

"I will do so," Kaolinite said.

Somewhere in the countryside, sounds of an off-road motorcycle race roared through the air. Serena, Darien, and the rest of the girls were watching. Erica and another racer were neck and neck, but just as they reached the finish line, Erica pulled ahead and won.

Everyone cheered. "I was so excited I forgot one word of English!" exclaimed Ami.

After the race, Serena and the girls went to go see Erica and Michelle. Some of the other riders came by as well. "We've never lost to a girl before!" one shouted angrily.

Erica replied haughtily, "It doesn't matter if one is a girl, the fastest one will win the race."

The other racers snarled. "I don't plan on letting some girl get away with winning!" shouted the leader. They prepared to fight Erica.

Another racer came by, Tony, and said, "Stop! This is no way to lose. We will just have to try harder to beat her next time."

The fight broke up and Tony walked away. "That man has a pure soul," Michelle commented, looking pointedly at Erica.

Serena and the girls waited for the bus to come to take them home. She became distracted by a street vendor who was selling stuffed racer toys. The bus doors closed as Serena looked up from the cart. "Wait!" she yelled as she chased after the bus.

Giving up, Serena checked the bus schedule. There wouldn't be another bus for an hour. Serena sunk onto the bench, resigned to wait for the bus.

"Need a lift?" Erica asked as she pulled up on her motorcycle. The sore losers of the race followed them.

Erica raced around tight corners of a mountain road. A car pulled up near them. It turned suddenly, trying to run them off the road. "Hold on tight!" Erica yelled as she gunned the throttle. The riders who had threatened Erica after the race followed.

Erica ditched her bike in the bushes and pulled Serena down with her. She held Serena close. "I feel like I'm being held by a guy," Serena thought to herself. "She smells good too."

"What kind of cologne do you use?" Serena asked.

"Be quiet," Erica whispered.

The riders stopped near them. "Did you see where they went?" asked one.

Erica jumped out of the bushes. She faced the riders. "Don't be poor losers and cowards. A race should be won fairly."

One of the riders rushed at Erica. She punched him and he held his jaw. The other riders saw this. "Let's get out of here!" shouted one and the ran off.

In another part of the mountains, Tony practiced racing. He was determined to win the next race. The demon seed embedded itself it his motorcycle.

The demon transformed the motorcycle. It attacked Tony. Michelle watched this and called Erica on a communicator device.

Erica tried to start the motorcycle after the fight somewhere in the mountains. Something was wrong and the motorcycle wouldn't start. Erica heard the beep of her communicator.

"Go to the street. You can catch a bus there," Erica ordered.

"I can find my own way home," Serena said. But Erica had already left. "I wonder where she went," Serena mused.

The demon took Tony's soul. Sailor Neptune appeared. "I won't let you take the soul crystal. Invited by a new age where the tide of Neptune roars, I am the elegant Sailor Neptune."

"Neptune Tidalwave Submerge!" The attack swept the soul crystal away from the demon. She investigated it. Once again, it was not the talisman.

She gave it back to Tony. "Escape, quickly," she told him as he revived.

Kaolinite appeared overhead. "It doesn't matter if that was the talisman. I've been waiting for you to come."

The demon split in two, forming new monsters. Sailor Uranus arrived. She glared at Kaolinite.

"Now I will kill you both!" Kaolinite shouted.

Serena, running in the forest, had fallen way behind Erica. She finally reached the scene of the battle.

"Moon Cosmic Power!" Serena transformed and faced Kaolinite. "Don't be a coward!"

Kaolinite turned to Sailor Moon. "Who are you?"

"I am the beautiful fighter for justice, Sailor Moon. A fight should be fair. I'm not on either side, but I won't let you fight unfairly. In the name of the Moon, I'll punish you."

The demon unleashed an attack on Sailor Moon. She dodged. "Uranus, go help Neptune!" she shouted.

Uranus snapped back, "Don't cut in."

The demon attacked again. This time it's attack tied Sailor Moon's and Sailor Uranus hands together. When the demon attacked again, Sailor Moon and Uranus tried to escape in different directions.

Kaolinite saw what a bad combination they were. "Finish them," she ordered the demon Uranus got hit by the attack.

Neptune shouted, "Uranus, escape! One of has to live to complete our mission!"

The demon continued attacking Uranus and Sailor Moon. Neither could do much of anything to counterattack.

Kaolinite grabbed Sailor Neptune. She threw her into the waterfall. Sailor Uranus saw that and she started running.

"We're going the wrong way!" Sailor Moon cried. Sailor Uranus just kept running.

Uranus dragged Sailor Moon into a cave to hide. Sailor Moon started yelling at Uranus, "Sailor Neptune might be alive. Don't you care? Are you going to abandon your partner and escape?"

The demon neared. "Be quiet, Sailor Moon," Uranus snapped.

When the demon left, Sailor Moon said quietly, "We can still save her. We can't just let her die."

Uranus replied, "If we go out like this, we will die."

"Coward!" Sailor Moon shouted. "She's your partner, your friend. You are a bad person."

"What do you!" Uranus snapped. "We made a promise. If something happened to one of us, the other wouldn't go back. The one who survived would go after the talisman. We already promised that."

"Why is this talisman so important?" Sailor Moon asked. "Is it worth all this sacrifice?"

"There is no need to explain," Sailor Uranus said.

"What?!" Sailor Moon exclaimed. "The ones who have had their souls taken are going to die. How can you be so cold?"

"The Silence is coming. The only way to stop it is to have the talisman. I don't want to make sacrifices, but if that will save the entire world, what would you do?"

Meanwhile, Kaolinite floated over the waterfall. "Hopefully the Sailor girl is dead."

In the cave, Sailor Moon saw that Uranus was bleeding. "Here, let me help you."

"Leave me alone," Sailor Uranus snapped.

"I won't leave an injured person alone," Sailor Moon protested. "I have a favor to ask."

"What?"

"My back is itchy and I can't reach it. Can you scratch it for me?"

The demon came into the cave. Sailor Uranus pushed Sailor Moon into a corner and hid. Sailor Moon smelled Uranus cologne. It was a lot like Erica's. "I wonder if they're the same person," she thought.

The demon blasted the rock Sailor Moon and Uranus were hiding behind. Sailor Moon and Uranus dashed out into the forest again.

Kaolinite stopped them. "Demon, kill them."

This time Sailor Moon and Sailor Uranus cooperated and escaped easily. Kaolinite was quite astonished. The demon blasted them again, but Uranus and Sailor Moon held out their arms. The ties were blasted instead.

Sailor Neptune dragged herself out of the water. Kaolinite spotted her. "I will kill you!" Sailor Moon threw herself at Kaolinite.

"Uranus Meteor Strike!" The attack blasted the demon.

"Moon Heart Spiral Collision!" The demon disintegrated.

Kaolinite vanished.

Sailor Uranus turned to Sailor Moon. "I think a little better of you now. But I will not let you interfere with our mission."

Neptune said to Uranus, "Why did you risk yourself to save me?"

"The one who saved you was her." Uranus pointed at Sailor Moon.

"Her?" Neptune was surprised.
