Ok, this is the sum of all the many hours of Eva series, movies, and translated script reading. Hope you guys are helped.

Adam and Lilith Lilith is the source of all human life. Adam is the source of all angel life. Lilith is the one crucified on the cross in Central Dogma(Kaoru). What was done with Adam is not clear, but it is quite obvious that Gendo locked Adam very far away from the angels. (I will come back to Adam later.)

Angels and Adam Angels are actually the offspring of Adam. Angels want to contact Adam so that he will create an anti-AT field and merge all angels back into the original state, which is one soul, one creature. This would destroy all humanity in the process, though. (I gathered this from the movie, because that's what happened between Lilith and humans. I assume that the relationship is the same as between Adam and angels)

Angels and Humans Angels are examples of what humans could CHOOSE to be. Like humans, angels are souls confined by AT fields, but angels can CHOOSE to change the shape of their AT field.

Evangelions and Adam Evas are cloned from Adam. (Kaoru said) HOLD THAT THOUGHT.

EXCEPT: Evangelion 01 and Lilith In the movie Eva 01 was referred to by SEELE as the "One true son/daughter of Lilith". So Eva 01 is Lilith's clone, which is quite obvious since humans merge so easily with 01. (Yui and Shinji Ikari, remember? The Yui incident was only implied.) Remember when they say "one TRUE" it means that Rei is not a complete clone of Lilith.

Evangelions and Adam again Apparently Evangelions can be a substitute for Adam. Kaoru said that he might have merged with Eva 02 if not for Eva 02's soul blocking him. (I'm only assuming that's what he meant. I guess this because in the movie SEELE wants to use Eva 01 for causing Third Impact instead of Lilith and the Spear of Longinous. Still a little iffy on how this all works.)

Lilith and Humans Humans were born from Lilith. Lilith has human legs sticking out of her. (From movie and later episodes.) Originally all humans didn't have AT fields separating themselves into individuals, but now they do and humans (In Eva at least) always have a lingering feeling of loneliness.

Rei (Notice her name is alone when others are together, I rarely do things at random ;-) Rei, the daughter of Lilith, sort of the way Christ is the son of God when all humans are the son of God, well whatever, heh. In the movie her role is the releaser of souls (She makes everyone explode into LCL). And she stands above the bodies of the dead. What is she? The soul itself or merely the manifestation of humanity's dreams? (Remember Rei changed into the fantasies of some of the Nerv personnel before blowing them up.) What did her final dissapearance above the red sea mean? Did she ever love Shinji or the rest of them? And what's the deal with Rei and Shinji's mom. That one I can partially answer with this. Part Lilith, part Yui Ikari, the latter more associated with Rei than the other.

Third Impact It is the death of humanity and the return of all souls into one being. Keel calls it "Rebirth in death". Namely, Lilith. The Evas are special because they are like angels and can manipulate AT fields. So SEELE wanted to use the Eva series as well as Eva 01 and the Spear of Longinouses (Which can pierce AT fields, remember the Angel of Birds?) to create a giant anti-AT field to destroy these mortal coils that confine humans to these shapes. Then all the souls went back to Lilith where they existed as one.

After Third Impact Well... Lilith blows a vein after absorbing Eva 01 and LCL spilled into space. Lilith then fell apart. The souls were left in orbit. Eva 01 and the Spear was left in space. Shinji fell back to Earth. Yui then said (In Shinji's mind?) that as long as one human soul exists, humanity will live forever. (Um, Yui also said that anyone with a strong enough will can return to a human form. Like the angels' shape shifting ability I guess.) Shinji is obviously that one soul, but then why did Asuka also reappear on the beach? I noticed that Asuka was bandaged like Rei, but on the other side, and was wearing a black plug suit in contrast to Rei's white. What does this symbolize? Rei brought death, Asuka brings life? Plus, why did Shinji see the ghostly Rei on the water? The ghost Rei is always around when someone dies, does her dissapearance mean the end of simple mortal deaths?
