Anime is potentially the most addictive thing I have ever encountered (especially the series... ^_^). "Anime" is Japanese animation (pronounced ah-ni-may). It is in a different class than "Cartoons" because Anime is beyond the North American concept of cartoon. Animes can rated anywhere from G all the way up to X. Aside from *ahem* "content" differences, anime artists use a different style than North American ones. The Japanese animation style is characterized by large, round eyes, long-legged girls, and really good-looking guys. I hate to say that they are more realistic, but for some reason, it's easier to be attracted to anime characters than to North American cartoons. (ex. i'm in love with Chichiri (Fushigi Yuugi) but not so much with Bart Simpson...) These are, of course, generalizations, but *shrugs* oh well... ^___^;;
However, in today's age of globalization, it is getting harder and harder to tell the difference in style as the North American artists are finally catching on to the demand for anime-like art. With the dubs of Sailormoon, Dragonball, Pokemon, etc being mass marketed in North America, Anime is rapidly gaining ground in popularity. It has become the playground of dreamers.
In 1993, one of my best friends (Cynthia Yip! yea! ^_^ ) introduced me to Ranma 1/2. Now that I've been completely warped by Happosai (etc), it is still one of my all time favourites. Here, I'd like to take the chance to warp you all in the same way... ^o^
Follow the Jusenkyo guide!
Mini Ranma Shrine this way!
Well, in case you're not interested in being warped by the panty-stealing Happosai, perhaps you'd be more interested in a more staid, and somewhat more North American friendly anime. A tried and true staple for all female anime lovers, Sailormoon! Cynthia's little sister, Catherina, introduced me to this lovely anime, (she was 5, i was 13.... ^_^;;) and it too has remained one of my favourite series to this day.
Click on the banner to go to my Sailormoon webpage, but be warned that it is a completely separate page with no links back to Mieu mieu's dream.
Well, that's all the time we have for today, if you'd like further anime recommendations, or if you'd just like to know what else I've seen and my opinions on it, please go HERE.
