"HISTORY OF JINGAI KANZAKI"

As Chronicled by Skribulous

1997: (PROLOGUE)

Jingai Kanzaki was one of the children born with the mark of the
Lama. He never knew who his parents were, and was brought up by the monks
of a secluded Shaolin Temple based in Nara until he was fifteen. He then
learned that he was one of those raised for a special purpose: to be the
candidate for the next Dalai Lama.
When Jingai turned fifteen, he journeyed to Tibet for his Testing.
Inspite of all the hardships faced in his quest, he still failed to be
chosen as the new spiritual leader for Buddhism. (Jingai still refuses
to divulge any of the details. Well, until next time...)
Before Jingai left for Tibet, he met and befriended Ryuu Kumon
(who was rebuilding the Kumon family dojo at the time) while still
wandering in Japan. It was Ryuu who suggested Jingai to go to Nerima
afterwards and look for a martial artist "related to heaven" (an obvious
pun to Ranma Saotome, who was married to Akane Tendo -- "Way to Heaven").
In the mountains of Tibet, Jingai unearthed an ancient scroll
containing a mysterious martial art style, the Kakuto Kami-jitsu, believed
to be the oldest martial art of all, and said to be handed down by the
very gods themselves millennia ago to mankind, and thought to be extinct.
Those who master the God Skill will qualify for "Ascension", "Elevation",
or "Enlightenment" or a similar state of being. (Many of the true "gods"
today may have either forgotten the God Skill, or chose not to reveal the
Art, for their own reasons.)
Excited by the many possibilities, Jingai abandoned his duties and
undertook the quest of re-discovering the ancient Martial Art, and to set
up a school, if possible. If need to be, he would develop new techniques
for the divinely-inspired martial art, which he would learn from other
martial art schools. (He reasoned that all the other martial arts were
developed from this one.) His Shaolin brothers, upon receiving his e-mail
(so?), grudgingly agreed. They have no choice, and besides, Jingai still
failed the Test anyway. (Or perhaps something else...:)
Such an ambitious goal, and Jingai was still sixteen then.
Jingai met Tom Tarou (he was still called Pantsuto Tarou then)
while passing through China, where they struck a friendly rivalry. (Tom
Tarou may have forgotten Jingai, but he might remember that "pale-faced
golden-haired blue-eyed brat" who kept coming back for more punishment
during a local tournament held in China a long time ago.) He also picked
up Nezumi Hatsuka, who had just taken a dip in the Jusenkyou Spring of
Drowned White Mouse. They both became close friends, and she accompanied
him in his journeys.
Jingai had met Ryouga Hibiki on several occasions, although they
were never more than casual aquaintances. He did learn that his father
(that he never met) could have been the "construction worker" who gave
Ryouga the (in)famous Shishihoukoudan (downward arrow -- depression blast)
technique...
Jingai met the immortal wanderers Yuta and Mana, although, like
Ryouga, they were but just passing aquaintances...
When Jingai returned to Japan, he visited Ryuu Kumon's old home.
But he was no longer there, so on a hunch, Jingai guessed that Ryuu
returned to Nerima. On his way there however, he was derailed by
Skribulous the RL Dragon (who was lurking at the time), which delayed him
in reaching Nerima for a while. Very interested in his case, Skribulous
"adopted" the two adventurers, and "persuaded" (eg. forced) them to
undertake some really dangerous quests. It was here Jingai found the
scroll containing the Kazesenken, and he plans to give it to Ryuu as a
gift when they next meet. Skribulous pops up every once and awhile,
sometimes helping him but mostly harrassing the hapless young martial
artist, despite the RL's good intentions. ^_^
Thus, seventeen years old, fresh from adventure and full of life,
Jingai Kanzaki finally arrived in Nerima, seeking peace and not getting
it, and not knowing of an even greater adventure ahead of him.

(Note: He is somewhat behind in education (although he finished high
school at fifteen via special tutorial courses, he still has a hard time
reading Japanese, but is remarkably good in English and several other
languages -- must be all that travelling:), but he plans to remedy that
by studying in college while training (or teaching...). Odd thing is, he
is very proficient with the palmtop computer he carries around with him,
with which he stays in touch with his Shaolin brothers (!) and the
aformentioned RL-Skribulous.)

Update: 12/05/97

The recent incident (The Ryuu Thread) has been quite a shocking
eye-opener for him. He now spends his time training and meditating on the
past events, trying to gain understanding on the various experiences he
has faced. (He still has the Kazesenken scroll.) Complicating matters is
the fact the Ryuu is now master of Empty-Ki Style, which is a martial arts
technique that could fatally harm him.
Still determined to continue in the pursuit of his goal of
creating or recreating the God Skill Martial Art Style, he is unfortunately
quite unsure on what he should do next.
He has more recently taken an interest to Lisa and her powers.

Update: 07/30/98

With Ryuu finally accepting the Kazesenken scroll, Jingai can now
study and improve on his Full-Ki style.
After the Raid on a convent in the outskirts of Nerima, he has
become aware of the existence of an ancient creature that feeds on ki.
With the urging of Sika, a young nun he saved with an infusion of ki
energies, he used the Dimensional Plot Hole (tm) and travelled to China.
There he was captured for a time by a troop of Blazing Cresent Mercenaries
led by then-Lieutenant Arika Sumeragi (Ah).
Confronting the Gaki (Shiela), Jingai gave Ah enough ki energies
to release her psionic potential, and used a Dimensional Battle Theater
to entrap the Gaki in a separate Hammerspace-type dimension. There he
discovered the Gaki's true nature. It was this time that he was exposed
to the emotion of love, and feelings he never experienced before.
He became naively infatuated with Tsiao Hsieh Lah (the Gaki's
first victim, a young Chinese maiden several millenia ago).
Meanwhile, the rest of the GRITters destroyed the Gaki...

Update: 09/16/98

His emotions in a turmoil, Jingai left on a trip to the mountains
of China, in order to reflect on the past events. He will not return for
several months (GRIT time).
Meanwhile, Nezumi went back to school by enrolling in Furinkan
High. All this time, she waits for Jingai to return, getting actively
involved in several GRIT adventures (threads) and making many new friends.
Ryuu has also finally regained the infamous Twin Art, and can now
use the deadly techniques of the Yamasenken and the Umisenken, as well as
the previously-useless Third Art Kazesenken.
While all this is going on, a new stranger enters the scene. His
name is Signus. What important part he plays in the life of Jingai and
company is yet unknown...
