After sneaking past Hydrus, it now slithered from darkness to shade to avoid being spotted. Sensing its target just around the corner, it tensed, gathering itself, and pounced... ...splattering Chibi-Youma over a small chunk of wall. Chaos sighed as C-Y recollected himself. What he sought was not here. Inhabiting C-Y like a puppet, Chaos walked towards the edge of the guarded area. With no substance of his own, Chaos kept walking with no regard for the local terrain. Which is probably why he did not notice C-Y fall out of him when they crossed a hole in the ground. Too disoriented to concentrate on escaping, C-Y absently noted the archaeological layers of sediment he passed. Modern. Gearalithic. 99alithic. Electionlithic. Chibilithic. WaSalithic. 98alithic. Electionlithic (again). Salithic. Ralithic. Originalezoic. Amichanian Fortress. ... "Oh, right. Bottom floor." Not even having felt the sudden stop (after having gotten used to impacting hard objects at high speeds during Chaos's failed hunt), C-Y began exploring his new location. He looked around, wondering at the neglected splendor of the place. C-Y only knew where he was because a sign had fallen to the floor reading, "Amichanian Fortress Emergency Exit - Invaders Please Use Front Door." As he crossed what might once have been a doorway, a siren blared, "Intruder alert...intrudeerr aaallleeeerrrr...," before falling off and bonking him on the head. Cracks spiderwebbed throughout the stone tunnels. In many places, water leaked through, forming puddles that were fortunately still only waist-high at most. "Truly, this must be a shrine to Ami," he thought as he waded through the deepest of the pools. A noise caught his attention. Something was stressing an airtight metal door nearby. Was someone else trapped down here? Grateful for the potential company, C-Y reached over and opened the door, removing the last keystone that had been holding the underwater AF together [1]. Water rushed in, slamming him towards the rapidly disentigrating base's center, then crushing him between several atmospheres' pressure below and to the sides, and a solid roof above, until the roof split open... Several factions' battle AIs immediately calculated the probability that the previous twelve were merely diversions, and that all retaliatory fire should be directed at the new projectile, especially when they found themselves unable to plot its course towards any significant target (thus indicating a probable stealth or jamming package onboard). TBC? [1] "Writing to get a reaction?" What's that? ^_^
