Evil Shows Its Face
chapter 1
by Star Syta

Okay, everyone! This is the FIRST time I have ever put on of my stories on the net so PLEASE don't hate me if you don't like my story. I only own one character in my story so far and that is Star. I got Suppi from Card Captors cause I think he is sooo adorible. I spelled that wrong. Oh well, ;P. Anyhow, this story is going to be about Hiei and my character, Star, who fall in love. If you're reading this, I just spoiled it for you. And by the way, I HATE YAOI! It is just nasty.
I better explain who Star is. She met the Urameshi team while they were fighting the fifth beast, Mokuba. I'll just give you a summary since I'll be posting that story later. Star is fighting Mokuba, the gang sees them, Star gets distracted because of them and is wounded, Mokuba beats up the gang, Star then gets mad and beats him up, and then the gang finds out she is part beast, part dark demon. She is a demoness and when she gets mad.....RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!! Kinda like Hiei so that's why she's with him.
As for the story, here we go. Chapter one.
P.S. I have song in here called U.G.L.Y. by Celeste and Daphne but this is NOT a songfic. It is more like a conflict fic/crossed with a From the Heart fic.

Evil Shows Its Face

“I wonder how everyone is doing…” Star sighed, looking out her open bedroom window. It was pouring but the rain seemed to fit her mood. She hadn’t seen any of her friends for months and she missed them, especially Hiei. “I almost wish that a monster was terrorizing the town so we could all fight it together again.” Star stood up and headed out the door. Even though she was a demoness, she still attended school. Sometimes she wondered why.
“Have a nice day at school,” her guardian, Spikel, mewed in her usual cheery voice as Star descended the stairs and walked to the doorway."
“I will, Suppi!” Star called to him as she stepped outside and then shut the door.
“Maybe I just want to be able to see some of my friends,” she murmured quietly, continuing to contemplate. Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Keiko attended the same school but she never saw much of them except when she and Keiko had a cheerleading meet and Yusuke decided to play a joke on her.
Speaking of cheerleading meets, Star thought silently. There’s the tournament today! I’ve better hurry up! Star started to run through the cold slush, flickering into a blur, and soon approached to the huge school. As she entered the school, she saw a black flash in the corner of her eye. Before she could turn to see what it was, it had disappeared.
“There you are, Star!” a familiar voice called from across the corridor. Keiko dashed up to her side in the tight purple and blue cheerleading outfit. “You better hurry up,” she urged, pushing Star toward the locker rooms. “We have to discuss what cheer we’re going to do today!”
“But I thought we had already figured that out!” Star retorted, as Keiko pulled her into the locker room.
“We’re up against the Comets today and we need a cheer that will make their self-esteem go way down or else we don’t stand a chance,” Keiko explained, as Star quickly got dressed and headed into the meeting room.
“There you are Star,” the coach gruffly stated and then returned to his tablet.
“I think I know one,” Star announced, catching the coaches attention.
“Which one?” he replied, sounding skeptical.
“U.G.L.Y.,” Star retorted, gaining confused glances from her teammates. “All you need to do is follow my lead.”
“I guess you are one of our best cheerleaders…” The coach seemed unsure. “Okay, let’s do it. We’re almost on.”

“This is going to be interesting,” Kuwabara stated as he sat down beside Yusuke.
“Yeah,” he agreed, turning his head to talk to Kuwabara. “I heard Star was leading them today.” Suddenly Yusuke saw someone standing in the shadows. “Hey, Hiei!” The figure turned and glared at them.
“What are you doing here, shrimpy?” Kuwabara sneered.
“None of your business,” Hiei snorted, turning away.
“Did you come here because you like someone…” Yusuke teased. Even in the dark you could practically see Hiei blush.
“N-no,” he stammered. “I wanted to see what all this fuss was about.”
“Whatever you say,” Yusuke replied, unconvinced. “But it’s starting in just a second.”

“We can do it!” a girl named Dolly cheered.
“Yeah!” Samantha, Michele, Ellie and Debbie shouted as the squad headed out the doors. Star parted with the group and whispered some order to the light instructor.
“Here we go,” Star called to her teammates as they took their places.

U.G.L.Y. You ain’t got no alibi. You ugly eh! Hey! You ugly! U.G.L.Y. You ain’t got no alibi. You ugly eh! Hey! You ugly!
Star shouted as the lights came on. Then the others joined in.
U.G.L.Y. You ain’t got no alibi. The other team shot them with weird glances. You ugly eh! Hey! You ugly! U.G.L.Y. You ain’t got no alibi. You ugly eh! Hey! You ugly!

Star walked up to center with a spotlight as the other team’s top cheerleader came to meet her.

I saw you walking down the street just the other day
I didn't see your damage from that far away
I should have got a clue when the kids started screaming
You walked up to me with your buck teeth a gleaming
Your hair was all frizzy and your face was a mess
I thought it was a sack but it's your favorite dress
You hurt the trees feelings and the birds all flew
I don't mean to insult you
Oh wait yes I do

The other cheerleader gasped at the insulted and glared at her as another one of her cheerleaders stepped up. Dolly stepped up and faced the other cheerleader.

Your teeth are yellow, they're covered in mold
You're only fourteen you look a hundred years old
When looks were handed out you were last in line
Your face looks like where the sun don't shine
Did you fall off a building and land on your head
Or did a truck run over your face instead
There ain't no pill ‘cos you ain't ill
You're ugly

The two cheerleading teams came together and you could practically see the sparks flying.

U.G.L.Y. You ain't got no alibi you ugly eh! hey! you ugly (x2)

Next Keiko stepped up to a third cheerleader.

What you really need is to wear a mask
And book that plastic surgeon fast (girl)
You're scary - you're hairy I heard about you
You're the main attraction at the city zoo
You're so fat and ugly with a belly full of flab
When you wear a yellow coat people shout out cab
(So funny)

Not missing the beat, Star added more to the leader.

You got eyes like a pig and your noise is big
And with hair like that you should be wearing a wig
Uncle fester remember him? I never knew that you had a twin
You can't disguise your googly eyes
In the miss ugly pageant you win first prize
Yo mama says you ugly
You ugly!

The rest of the cheerleaders joined in as the crowd cheered.

U.G.L.Y. You ain't got no alibi you ugly eh! hey! you ugly (x2)

You ain’t got no alibi

The crowd cheered as the other cheerleaders sneered and glared at them. Star smiled and joined her friends as they congratulated her and got ready to leave. Keiko and Star ran up the bleachers and was met by Yusuke and Kuwabara.
“You were great!” Yusuke greeted, hugging Keiko. “You sent them home with their tails between their legs.
“It was Star’s idea,” she replied, pointing to the black-haired girl.
“Hey, how are you doing?” Yusuke asked, letting go of Keiko. “ I haven’t seen you in a while.”
“Same old boring life as before,” Star replied, waving her hand to gesture that it was nothing.
“Well, do you want to come over to my house?” Yusuke offered. “We’re having a barbecue.”
“I’m sorry but I have homework to do,” Star replied.
“Just ask Keiko to do it,” Yusuke smirked, when suddenly he was rewarded with a slap.
“No, thank you,” Star smiled as she headed down the bleachers. Yusuke, Keiko, and Kuwabara trailed behind her when Yusuke turned around and looked towards the dark corner.
“Hey, Hiei!” he shouted, gaining Star’s attention. “Are you coming?”
Hiei noticed Star turn around and glance up at him. Stupid Yusuke! Hiei shouted silently as he saw Star’s surprised face. “No,” he grunted, flickering out of his spot and appearing outside, where they couldn’t see him.

Is Hiei really up there? Star thought wordlessly.
“No,” Hiei grunted in response and then disappeared. Star stared at the spot where Hiei had been.
“I can’t believe how much I’ve missed him,” Star breathed quietly as she walked out the door and towards her house.
“Are you okay?” Keiko whispered, walking beside Star for a couple seconds.
“Uh, yeah,” Star murmured. “Just a bit winded.” Keiko gazed at her worriedly as Star hurried away; Star never got tired just from a little cheer.

I can’t believe I saw him today...Star thought quietly, walking through a park that was a block from her home. Suddenly a shadow caught the corner of Star’s eye and she turned to see who it was only to find nothing but trees. “Great,” Star muttered, continuing home. “Now I’m hallucinating.”
When she reached her house, it was dusk and the sky was growing darker by the minute. Stepping inside, she felt a slight breeze blowing down from upstairs. “Great,” Star sighed. “I left the window open again...” As she reached the staircase, she noticed a small piece of paper with some writing on it.

Dear Star,
I’m going to be gone for a couple of days in Makai to get some supplies. Take care of yourself.
Suppi

“I can take care of myself,” Star snorted, throwing the note into the trash can. She climbed up to her room and turned on a light and went over to the window... but she saw something in the tree. Star dismissed it as a owl or squirrel. She shut the window and to be on the safe side double locked it. She heard a slight chuckle. Star pulled the blinds quickly and peeked out.
“Yusuke? Are you pulling another stupid joke?” Star shouted, getting irritated. “Go away!”
“Go away?” a different voice asked. “You’ve got something I need...”
“Real funny...” Star retorted, pulling down the blinds. “Now go away! You acting like a dumb child!”
“Dumb?” the voice asked. “What if I told you I could break this window and kill you along with it?” Star stopped in her tracks and gulped but recovered quickly.
“Yusuke...I’m warning you-” Unexpectedly, the phone rang and Star quickly dashed for it. “Hello?”
“Hey, Star?” a cheerful voice called into the phone. “This is Yusuke! I was calling to ask you if you wanted to-”
“Yusuke?” Star gasped, turning to the window which had a shadowy figure at it.
        “Yeah, what’s wrong?”
“Someone is trying to get inside my house...” Star murmured. “I think it’s a demon?”
“What?!” Yusuke replied. “Are you sure?”
“Please come over as soon as possible,” Star whispered hanging up the phone as the figure started to open the window. Opening the closet door, she stepped inside and backed into it. Before the demon could see her, she shut the door.
“Come out, little one,” the demon coaxed. “I won’t hurt you...that bad. If you come out now, I promise to kill you quick but if you make me hunt...I’ll torture you.” Star felt insulted but she could also sense that this demon was powerful; more powerful then she could handle alone. Suddenly, a sword pierced right through the door. Star screamed as she ducked to the side and narrowly escaped the assault. The door flew open and the demon reached in and drug her out, receiving a punch from Star. Furious, the demon flew forward at an intense speed and knocked her into the wall. Before Star could react, the fiend slid his katana under her throat. She involuntarily shuddered at the touch of the cold metal and at the evil glint in his blood red eyes.
“What to do...” the green-haired demon pondered. “If I slit your throat, you’ll bleed to death before I can have my fun. I, unlike most demons, love to torture my prey before sealing their fate.” Star gritted her teeth and looked at the window.
Hiei...Star pleaded. I need your help.
“Look at me, little girl!” the demon shouted, grabbing her chin and forcing her to face him. “I need to absorb your precious energy.”
“Get away from her,” a cold voice calmly commanded from the shadows. Star gazed dully towards the sound and saw a dark figure move from the shadows.
“I suggest you leave,” the demon snarled. “Before I-”
“Before you what?” Hiei retorted leaping forward. To the normal eye, it would have looked like only one slash with his katana but when he landed, bloody slashes appeared all over the demon’s body. But before Hiei was finished, the demon managed to slash his left arm, creating a deep gash.
“My master...will...come for...you,” the demon gasped before it faded away. As soon as Hiei was sure that the demon was gone, he turned to Star.
“You came....” Star smiled before collapsing. Hiei flickered out of sight and caught Star before she could hit the ground. He gazed at her pretty face as she slept silently in his arms. Lifting her gently up, he vanished into a blur again, taking her to Yusuke’s where the guys and Keiko were waiting. He jumped through the window and landed in the living room, gaining various gazes from them. Yusuke looked anxious, Kurama seemed concerned, and Kuwabara looked aggravated.
“There is a reason someone invented the ‘door,’” Kuwabara muttered irately. Hiei shot him a ‘do-you-want-to-die’ look and then turned to Kurama.
“Can you heal her?” Hiei asked gruffly, nodding towards Star who was snuggled in his arms.
“Oh, yeah,” Kurama snapped to attention and took out one of his herbs. “What happened to her?”
“She was attacked by a ki-eating demon,” Hiei replied matter-of-factly.
“Where is he now?” Yusuke questioned, hoping for some action.
“Dead,” Hiei murmured, gesturing to his bloody sword. Kurama was finally done with dressing Star’s wounds and started for Hiei’s arm before the black-haired demon pulled away.
“You should lay her down,” Kurama stated, pointing to the stairs. “Yusuke has an extra bedroom upstairs.”
“Hn,” Hiei muttered. Why do I go through with this? he thought as he climbed the stairway. As he entered the spare bedroom, he glanced down at the demon girl wrapped in his arms. She looked so innocent and fragile, cuddled securely in his arms. Is it because I have feelings for her? Hiei shook his head at the thought as he laid her down on the bed and covered her with a blanket. Then he disappeared in a blur, heading to his usual spot in the park in the old oak tree.

~Preview~

“What are you doing out here?!” Hiei practically shouted. “Something is hunting you!” Star gracefully jumped down, fully recovered from any injury she had received from the previous demon.
“I’m happy to see you care,” Star smiled cheerfully. Hiei’s eyes widened as he realized the emotions he had just blurted out. “Actually,” Star continued, gazing into his deep red eyes. “I wanted to know it you would like to my dinner party tonight.” Hiei turned his head away, about to say no(and to hide the fact that he was blushing), but before he could utter a word, Star clasped her hands around his right hand, gaining his attention. “Please come,” Star pleaded, watching as Hiei turned his head towards her and gazing into her deep violet eyes. “Everyone is coming and they are bringing different presents to exchange. I would love it if you would come too.” Those last words played in Hiei’s mind.
