This be my first submission to this site, and my first YYH fanfic. I know it's
not the best, but writing is too fun!!
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho or its characters. I'm not making money on
this. Shishiko is a character I made up for the YYH universe but if they say
they own her then perhaps she is theirs too.

Chapter One
In the darkness of the night, a girl ran through the back alleys of the city.
She looked as an average teenager, but then appearances can be and often are
deceiving. She made her way through the darkest areas out of choice, and she
moved slower than her full potential, though she had forgotten why she ran.
She stopped and tried to remember what she was supposed to be doing. She knew
she could outrun her pursuers, but she didn't know why she wasn't. She turned
around and faced the way she came, unsure of herself. She could feel the daemons
following, and she knew she couldn't fight them all at once.
'So why not just leave?' She thought. 'No no no, I can't do that have to... To
lure them off and return! Yes! Forwards then back again.'
She giggled merrily and ran down the narrow street, turning randomly with little
sense of where she would end up.

"So where are we going?" Kuwabara asked for what seemed like the
hundredth time.
"If you'd keep quiet, I might be able to figure that out," Yusuke
replied, turning a map this way and that trying to decipher it.
"Why don't you ever get the information we need rather than wasting our
time?" Kuwabara countered.
Yusuke grabbed the taller boy by his uniform collar, growling, "Hey, why
don't-"
"How about we get to where we are going before it starts raining?"
Kurama said quietly, snatching the map from Yusuke and studying it, "What
did Botan say?"
"She said something about a surprise," Yusuke looked up at the dark
storm clouds that were blocking out the stars, "and um... maybe something
about an abandoned warehouse."
"Maybe?" Kurama blinked.
"Well, she did, but..." Yusuke mumbled, "She didn't exactly tell
me where it was.... She just said follow the map."
"Can you get us to the construction site near your school?" Kurama
said, not looking up from the map, "I think it is near there. There are a
few that are going to be torn down to make new buildings."
Yusuke glared at the reborn daemon before replying, "Yeah, follow me"
and leading the way. After a while they came to be walking some less reputable
streets on what Yusuke claimed was a short cut. The area wasn't something that
they needed to be afraid of normally, but on this night there was a strong aura
of spiritual energy permeating the air.
Sharply turning a corner, the raven-haired youth was run into by a girl who
wasn't paying as much attention as she could have been. He fell back and into
Kuwabara from the impact, angering him all the more greatly.
"I'm so sorry, I should have been looking where I was going," the girl
said apologetically, "I was in a terrible hurry see? Well, not as much of a
hurry as I should be but we should all be hurrying because it's dangerous to
stay here."
"What?" Yusuke asked, rather befuddled by the swiftness of the girl's
jumbled explanation.
"There are daemons after me," she said, simply, "I think that if
you value your lives you would want to get away"
"What?" Kurama echoed Yusuke's earlier query.
"You humans aren't as smart as the master are you?" she asked, turning
around swiftly, "But it's too late now, because here they are."
The feel of the energy surged as a bird daemon dove down and swiped at the girl,
who was no longer where she had been. The creature resembled a harpy, with wings
for arms and talons for feet on an otherwise human body.
Surprised, the Reikai Tentai team braced for a fight as another creature
burrowed up out of the ground, and yet another, this one a simple horned daemon
of some sort, ran towards them from where the girl had come.
The burrowing creature, akin to a mole that walked upright, slashed its large
claws at Yusuke. The boy dodged, and then kicked at the thing's legs. A vine
wrapped around the creature's neck. The creature lost its leverage as the
combined force of the rosewhip pulling it backwards and a couple of punchs from
Yusuke weakened it. Then it suddenly had no head as Kuwabara brought the Reiken
through its neck above the rosewhip.
"Reigun!" Yusuke shouted, aiming at the horned creature. It didn't
even have time to blink before the shot of energy impacted into its chest,
killing it instantly.
The bird daemon had seemed to be struggling with something in the air, and then
suddenly burst into flames. It fell with a screech to the ground before dying.
All three bodies vanished with a puff of smoke.
The girl landed softly on the ground, looking slightly impressed, "Wow,
you're stronger than I thought. I didn't think ordinary humans could use their
life energy like that, I thought they needed more training and practice
than-"
"Who the hell are you?!" Kuwabara demanded, "And why are they
after you?"
"Oh, they are just bad hunters thinking that they could get away with a
Reikai prize, but they aren't too good or smart," she said cheerfully.
"My name is Shishiko," she continued, her tone changed slightly. She
bowed politely, "I am a warrior for the Reikai Elite, well, would have been
had I been able to complete my training without incident...."
"Anyway," she said quickly, "I've been demoted. I was coming here
with.... Um... Oops"
Shishiko smiled sheepishly and turned back the way she'd come. "Hey!"
Yusuke cried, "Where are you going?"
"Hey wait!" a voice familiar to both the Reikai Tentai and the girl
called out.
"Botan!" called Yusuke, "Where the hell have you been?"
"Oh, Hi Yusuke!" the ferry girl said, "I see you've met your new
teammate."
"What?" Kuwabara said before either of the others could, though the
expression was clear on each of their faces.
"Shishiko is your teammate now," Botan said as though it was common
knowledge, "Look I'll explain when we get indoors. This storm is about to
break any minute," she added at the glares of the three boys.
"These are the people then?" Shishiko asked, "Oh that's right! I
remember seeing them now!" Botan only nodded in response.
"Let's go before we get soaked then," growled Yusuke.
They started towards Yusuke's home as the first drops of rainwater began to
fall.

There will be more when I write it. This story was written for my enjoyment, but
I hope that whoever reads it likes it as well. Please review it, even if it's
just to say how bad I am at writing.
Second, sorry if it seems pretty Americanized. I studied Japanese for two years
so far and still feel as though I can't use it in even the most basic form
without insulting someone.
