"Genkai!"
The pink haired girl looked up from her game of hopscotch. It was Toguro.
The boy grinned as he balanced a basketball carefully on his finger. "You wanna play?"
Genkai sighed. "You know I'm going to win, like always."
The shorter boy frowned. "That was true..until today. I've got some new moves to show you." he started dribbling the ball, faster and faster.
"Now watch!" he commanded. "Heyah!"
Spinning around clockwise 360 degrees, Toguro jumped-
And slammed his face into the basketball.
"Baka!" Genkai laughed.
"Ouch...." Toguro moaned as he rubbed his sore nose.
"What have we here?"
Genkai fell silent. She slitted her eyes and stared nervously in the direction of the voice.
Toguro Ani emerged. Genkai winced. She didn't like Toguro Ani. He was a big bully, unlike his crybaby, yet sweet, brother.
He crept over to the two, and noticed Toguro's basketball.
"This looks pretty nice." he cackled as he snatched it from his ototo.
Toguro's lower lip trembled. "Onisan.." he wailed.
"Uh uh uh! That's a no no." the older child scolded as Toguro leapt up to recover the precious object.
Toguro's face scrinched up.
Genkai cringed and put her hands over her ears.
Just in time, as he exploded into tears.
"WAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" he bawled.
"Oh look." Toguro Ani remarked. "It's time for me to go." He patted Toguro's head. "Later darling brother. Goodbye Genkai-chan."
She glared at him as he disappeared into the building, the door slamming behind him.
Genkai sighed, and turned her attention to comforting Toguro. She waited patiently as the sobs became irregular and the streams of tears evaporated to mere trickles.
"Don't worry," she soothed the sniffling Toguro. "Forget about it."
"Okay, Genkai. *Sniff*, but can we, *Sniff*, play basketball, *Sniff*, next time?"
"Sure."
The little boy cheered up, and threw his arms around her. "Thanks Genkai. You're the best! We're going to be friends forever, right?"
Genkai nodded. "Always, Toguro. C'mon now, race you to the sandbox. Last one there's a rotten egg!"
"You're on!"
The children's laughter soared high into the air, and the afternoon sun seemed to glow brighter with each merry chuckle.
