Yaoi

Too Late

Hiei stared at his lover, still not understanding why he had to play this stupid human game. "Do you have any 3's?" Kurama asked. He was smiling, very happy that Hiei had agreed to play one game with him. He watched Hiei's face twist in a strange experssion, not joyful , no never that, but something like a smirk.

"Go fish."

Kurama sighed and grabbed a card. His expression brightened and he threw down his last two cards. "I win."

"So?"

Kurama tackled Hiei and started kissing his face. "So, nothing."

Hiei could almost smile when he remembered that. He had loved Kurama's human form almost as much as his Youko form. Both were Kurama and both were beautiful. It had happened so fast though that no one nt even him had been able to save Kurama, by the time he had gotten there Kurama was already dying, unable to be saved. Hiei was regretful that he had not been closer. Kurama's human form was too young to die.

Too full of life. Kurama, himself was in shock that he had died. He had never gotten to tell Shiori who he really was. He knew he had wanted to someday, but the moment just never seemed right. Now she was mourning over her son's mysterious and violent death.

"I have to tell her."

"I thought you said telling her would hurt her. You said you didn't want to." Hiei remarked calmly.

"Can it hurt her anymore than not knowing why her son died?"

"How should I know? Stupid humans. They feel too much."

"Hiei, Do I feel too much?"

Hiei didn't answer. Kurama grabbed a thick coat with a hood and left the room. Hiei watched the floor pretending that was more interesting. How could he have done that? His silence was just as much a yes as him actually saying it was. At least to Kurama. Kurama knew he had trouble expressing emotions, even after he had told Kurama he loved him.

Hiei followed Kurama as he made his way to Shiori. It was raining. Shiori stood at her Shuichi's grave, crying. She had some flowers she had managed to buy from the florist without breaking down and crying. She was so lost in her sadness she didn't even notice the tall hooded figure and later his short companion. When the tall man put a perfect red rose, the exact color of her som's hair down at the grave, she looked up startled.

"You knew him?"

"Yes. We were partners."

"I'm his mother.

"I know, Shiori." It took alot for Kurama not to call her mother. Not to tell her outright it was him. That would hurt her too much. "There are things about your son that you should know."

Shiori choked back another wave of tears. "Do you know what happened to him?"

"He was a detective for the Spirit world. He died in battle, protecting this world. Before he was born here he was a Youko, his soul. You taught him to love this world, these humans. When he fought, he fought for you."

"How do you know all this? Why didn't he tell me?"

"He didn't want you to worry. As for me...I am Youko Kurama. A close friend of your son's this is Hiei, Hiei fought beside Shuichi until the end. You taught him to care. He would ahve wnted you not to cry for him. He never would have wanted you to be so sad because he died." Kurama turned and walked away, hiei following. Shiori watched them for a moment.

Friends of her son. A detective for the Spirit World.

"Wait." They both stopped. Shiori came up to them and hugged them both.

"Thank you."

Kurama smiled. And he and Hiei left.

The rain stopped and Shiori looked up to see the clouds dissipating to reveal the sun. She was ready for a new life now.
