**Dorm Life**
Ahh..the famed life in dorms. :D I'm going to describe it as how I know it. Which was a single room with a communal bathroom. I'll also add in small descriptions of other types of rooms I've seen.
Ok, like I said, I lived in a single room all to myself last year. I moved into an apartment for my sophomore year and beyond. ;) My dorm, Tower C, was what it's called. A tower. No lie, my room was in the shape of a pie piece. A very small sliver, mind you. It was about wide enough at the very end of it (the biggest part) to have my bed width-wise. So when you walk in, the bed was straight ahead against/parallel to the wall. There was a window on the same wall, I slept with my head by it. As for furniture...I had a desk barely big enough for my monitor to fit on it. Actually, we had to take apart the desk and reattach the bookshelf part of it to my chest of drawers. I also had a little cabinet thing and a disgusting cushion-y chair that must have been 20 years old. The desk chair wasn't in hot condition, either. Actually, none of the furniture was in tip-top condition. The mattress SUCKED, it sunk into the middle and I could feel the springs dig into my back every night. :( All in all, I made the room a very cozy place, posters and pictures on the wall, all sorts of personal stuff on the bulletin board that was practically a whole wall. (courtesy of the university) It was incredibly small, almost like a closet. Oh yeah, I also had a closet with a curtain door. It was a pretty good size. It was right as you walk in, to your left. The best thing about the room was probably the fact that we had a phone line and an ethernet line, so being on the internet was incredibly fast. And it didn't interrupt with phone calls.
The bathroom was pretty much right out my door. It had like 4-5 toilet stalls, 5-6 sinks, and 4 showers. And this giant mirror above the sinks. The showers were in sets of 2, 2 on each side of the bathroom. You walk in and shut the curtain behind you, there's a bench in a small area to get undressed in. Then there are 2 showers, you go in and shut that curtain. So 2 curtains protect you from the outside, don't worry. :) This was probably my biggest concern with moving into a dorm...how do I take a shower without being seen? *L* It's alright, you get used to it and you find ways to get around things.
Tower C rooms are definitely not meant for 2 people. So I will discuss other types of rooms I've been in. The doubles in the other towers were pretty nice, bigger than my room. They have furniture for each person. Same style bathroom, though. In other dorms I've been in, the amount of people sharing a bathroom dramatically decreases. I shared with 29 other girls! Suites are pretty nice, they include a small kitchen and generally more than one bathroom so you only share with like 2-3 other people.
Like I said, I currently live off campus and I love it. Only thing I miss about dorm life is the ethernet connection but it's a sacrafice I can handle. ;)
