Sailor Uranus or Tenoh Haruka

Meaning of the name: Distant sky ruler

Her first appearence is in the third series, Sailormoon S. From the beginning she seems an arrogant, self-confident person, but especially a queer person. In fact she wears the male uniform of her school, calls herself using the male personal pronoun "boku" (in Japan there are different pronouns for the two genders), has a very deep voice for a girl, and seems having fun confusing the girls she meets, that inevitably mistake her for a handsome boy. In the episode she appears, Usagi and Minako, who think her to be a man, follow her for an entire day, trying to get information about her; when they discover the truth, their disappointment is incredible! A few episodes later is Makoto, even knowing the real self of the girl, to have a crush on the blond and attractive student, who is very gentle and pleasant to her. With the time, the meetings between Haruka and the younger girls become more frequent and a friendship begins, even if Haruka goes on teasing the others that, thinking she was a boy, had got infatuated with her.

However, it's easy to understand them in their confusion. Haruka never wears female clothes, drives around the city with a racing motorcycle or a sport yellow car gone down in history [we haven't established yet if it is a Porsche or a Mazda, however a really beautiful car! -Iky's note], takes part in motocross races and wins them easily, loves engines' world and drives to a professional level...

Haruka's temper is enough complex. Sometimes she's really intolerable because of her arrogance and surliness, but she's an incredibly charismatic character however. One side of her completely absent in the anime is that she loves playing the piano, thing that demonstrates that sophisticated and aristocratic component that marks her. Even if it could seem strange, Haruka is also a very sweet, affectionate and protective person: this is evident especially looking at her attitude toward Michiru, Hotaru and Usagi.

The meeting with Michiru is a fondamental turning-point in Haruka's life: we can say without fail that the two girls complete each other. Haruka is the impulsive component, Michiru the rational one; one more bold, the other more diplomatic. Looking at their attitude is easy to think they are a couple: but when Usagi and Minako ask openly to Haruka if they really are, she denies, and sais that her relationship with Michiru is even stronger than love. Both in the third and in the fifth series there is a lot of elements that allows to say that the two girls really are a couple, first of all the fact that they raise baby Hotaru as a child and that she calls Haruka "dad" and Michiru "mum". Haruka is without fail the dominant member of the couple, but this dont't reduce Michiru's personality, equally strong and complex. They are inseparable also as Sailor Senshi, and their understanding is so high that makes them very dangerous enemies when fighting together.

As Sailor Uranus, Haruka is extremely devoted to the cause she fights for, so devoted not to hesitate to risk her own life. Her powers derive from the sky (her name's meaning is not casual), and, like the other Outer Senshi she possesses one of the talismans, the Space Sword; Michiru instead has the Deep Aqua Mirror.
