Milk Bubbles
Long ago, long ago, there was a time when there were no men and women; only beings lived on the earth and they had no gender. One day God was handling many things and he asked two people to come and help him. They did as he commanded and they climbed the highest mountain on the earth (at the time, it was not very high; it was like a big hill). One of them was strong and the other one was beautiful.
God looked down on them and smiled, happy that they came. "I need you to watch these bubbles of milk for me," he said. "Please be very careful with them."
The strong being asked, "What is milk?"
"It is a substance of life," said God. "That’s why you need to be careful."
They nodded their head although they did not completely understand. God went back to his work in the sky. For a while, they did not want to be disobedient so they stayed at the top of the mountain, even though they were bored of watching the bubbles of milk.
The beautiful one clutched its stomach. "I am so hungry…"
The strong one stood up. "If you can watch these bubbles for me, I can pick off fruit at the tree that is close to here." The beautiful one agreed and the strong one fetched fruit near the bottom of the mountain.
Meanwhile, God was doing his work in the sky when he produced thunderstorms to make rain. The beautiful one panicked with fear because the raindrops pelted the bubbles of milk and thought they were going to break. The strong one returned with an arm full of fruit in his arms when he came upon the raindrops at the mountain.
"Oh no! What happened with the bubbles?"
"They are not broken yet," said the beautiful one. "But if we stay on the mountain, they will surely break! Let us go at once!"
The beautiful one took two of the milk bubbles and put it to its chest. Since the strong one’s arms were full of fruit, the beautiful one put the milk bubbles between its legs. They both quickly walked off the mountain, trying their best not to break the bubbles.
When they reached the end of the mountain where the rain could not reach them, they relaxed. However, when the beautiful one dropped its arms of its sides, the milk bubbles stayed on the beautiful one’s chest, trapped within the body by hanging sacks of skin. When the strong one set the fruit on the ground and went to grab the bubbles from between its legs, the bubbles were also attached by a hanging sack of skin. But also, they were much smaller than the beautiful one’s bubbles. He left a trail of milk that followed his path down the mountain because he squeezed the milk bubbles too hard between his thighs.
God returned from his tasks to ask for the milk bubbles when he saw a trail of milk that ran down the mountain to where the strong one and the beautiful one were. God was angry because he had told them to be careful with the milk bubbles because they were the substances of life.
The strong one and the beautiful one pleaded to God to remove the milk bubbles from their bodies. But because they did not pay careful attention to the task, he left them as they were. In this way, he divided men and women and forced both of them to produce milk if they ever wanted to have children. Furthermore, he made mountains very high so that he would never make the mistake of asking them to do such an important task again.
