This page will be the place to find out what is happening in the land of Daikun and jpop. I will try to keep the information updated regularly, but we all know that we each have our own schedules to keep in mind. Yes, there is life outside of the computer room. It has big trees and lots of people. We should all try to see it often. Well enough with the intro...
10/25-- Well, what a better time for a first entry than on a glorious eve basking in the glow of another standardized test left hopelessly in the dust. God those things are awful! Let's just hope that Daikun scored high enough to get into one of those small prestigious colleges with the large prestigious tuitions. If you are one of the first visitors to this page I wouldn't be surprised. I finally got at least some minimal content up and running and it only took me what, a month or two. It's not like I have much time though with all of these pathetic excuses for quality tests messing up my schedule. Anyway I am still new at this so don't blame me if you're having trouble viewing my site with Netscape or something like that because I wouldn't know what to tell you. The future for this site looks real bright, well maybe a little overcast, okay dingy, oh alright it looks downright drab; nevertheless, I will strive to bring you the very best, or at least a close approximation. I will break sweat and tears to bring you, the internet surfer, the finest quality jpop home page that can be brought to you, the internet surfer, by a computer quasi-literate high-schooler with standardized tests driving him up the wall and a nasty 2 megabyte limit imposed by those all-so-wonderful people at Geocities. Updates will be coming in the next few weeks. Hold on to something, your hat maybe, because when they come they will be the finest updates that a computer quasi-literate high-schooler with standardized tests driving him up the wall and a nasty 2 megabyte limit imposed by those all-so-wonderful people at Geocities can give you... Or at least they might seem like it.
10/25-- I can hear you right now even though you are potentially thousands of miles from my soggy Seattle dwelling, and you are saying to yourself, "Wow that was a quick update!" And you know what? If that is what you were just saying to yourself you would be absolutely correct. No, it is not a typo, I just liked the ring of that first ever entry so much I thought that I would write another one. This is Daikun's first stab at creating a web page and as noted earlier, he is not the fine, brilliant computer nerd that he thinks he is. Therefore, he needs your help. You, yes you. You can help Daikun in many ways. That horrible little 2 meg restriction is really starting to get on Daikun's nerves. It just isn't enough memory to upload all of the cool things he wants to upload. That is where you come in. You can help Daikun avoid the said file size restriction by providing him with permission to use your current uploaded pictures and mp3s already in the public domain. To allow Daikun to use your files you may simply e-mail him at his simple, yet effective e-mail address daikun@oocities.com. This would make Daikun a much happier person, and very willing to kiss some major butt in pathetically exuberant thank-you e-mails. After all I am writing all of this in an attempt to create an all purpose jpop page that should encompass many of the various aspects of jpop. It has been noted that this is hard to do when you only have 2 freakin' megs of space to upload into. Pardon my French. I think you get the point. By the way, my guestbook looks horribly empty without any entries so PLEASE sign it unless you just received a page that your wife is currently having a baby or you inexplicably just suffered a heart attack. Remember the bit about the pathetically exuberant thank-you e-mails? I think it applies here.
11/18-- Okay it has been awhile since I last updated this page, but hey, Daikun is a busy guy. He can't just sit in front of a computer monitor heedlessly wasting away his precious, spry teenage years (even though he want's to). No, he is a brave, take charge, grab the bull by the horns kind of guy who plans for his future. The same kind of neurotic guy who willingly agrees to fill out applications for seven schools. "Ha ha, little grasshopper. Have fun in December reiterating your social security number for the forty-seventh time while all of your other friends are out playing their reindeer games. Good joke on you." Yes, that is the kind of guy Daikun is. And gosh darn it even if he doesn't have one of those award winning jah-vah script multimedia websites which manages to get more hits per day than the Cubs can manage in a full season, at least he will have spent his Friday nights describing in adequate detail where appropriate why he deserves to lay down $125,000 over the next four years to one of seven distincly individual institutions. So if you can't handle this rough and tumble, grab-on-to-your-hat-or-whatever-else-is-handy kind of guy, tough! In the meantime please patiently wait for the nightmare of Daikun's life to subside so he can resume more sufficient work on his homepage. I have added a clip of Max's single, Love Love Fire, in real media format, and a brief section on Namie Amuro. So, like my Uncle Guiseppe used to say back in ancient Nara, Nagai michi node, minna san wa boshi wo mochinasai! Jya ne:-)
12/23-- Okay, so you've all been patient. You have sat by your computer anxiously awaiting the glories of Daikun's homepage to emerge, yet each time you come back it is the same boring thing that has been there for the last three months. Well, that's about to change. Blessed with two weeks off of school and his college nightmare almost over, Daikun is sweating into the night to bring his best to the world wide web. You may have noticed several key additions to his page recently. Daikun has added a top-ten list which shall stay updated regularly as long as possible until something unspeakable... Did somebody say midterms? No, it must have been nothing. Daikun is now a proud member of the j-pop ring, and awaiting response from the j-star circle. Ahem. He has also corrected the guestbook problem, apparently. He still doesn't have any entries. Hey, I bet you could be the first person on your block to sign Daikun's guestbook. After you do that check out Daikun's music station where you can now listen to streaming clips of seven different B'z singles. Links are being added continuously on Daikun's links page. If you would like your site to be on the ever-growing list just e-mail him with your address and a banner if you got one. More plans are in the works for improving this site. Someday I may actually get around to creating a version of this site in Japanese, but don't hold your breath cuz you might die. Well, all for now. Daikun has things to do in that space outside the front door. If you have comments, questions, or opinions, feel free to write. Daikun doesn't bite. Actually that would be pretty hard to do over a modem. Oh, well. Happy Holidays. Jya ne.
12/28-- Hello again. I hope you have all had a good holiday season. I have enjoyed my fairly relaxing break from the everyday rigors which impede on homepage progress so much that in the next few days I may be able to add some new features. My links section is growing as I add more cool jpop related sites. I have uploaded eleven clips off of Dreams Come True's album Love Unlimited and I plan to provide access to them as soon as I can. There are now seven B'z singles to listen to courtesy of their official homepage. Definately check these out if you haven't heard them...they ROCK. As of this update Countdown TV hasn't released its top 100 list for 12/27-1/2. Once it is available I will update my hits chart. In other more important news: Max has released a new album entitled Maximum II; Dreams Come True also has a new album, Sing or Die; Namie Amuro's final single before taking a year off, Dreaming I Was Dreaming, is now available for sampling (I should be adding that soon); she has also rereleased a new version of her single Can You Celebrate. Updates should be coming in the near future so check back. Jya ne.
3/8-- Okay, so it has been a while since I talked to you last, but I'm still here. I haven't forgotten this page. You know... school and all. I try to have a life as well. You will notice many changes since the last update. The music station now includes two full songs and 18 real audio clips. My top ten list now includes the top songs from 1997. There are more links than ever before. And Daikun's Jpop Page is now available in frames or no frames. Daikun's music library is growing to the point where he would really appreciate more space than he has got for mp3s. Again if anyone knows anything please e-mail Daikun. Enjoy the page for now. Artist profiles and galleries will be coming in the future, but it could take a while. Jya ne.
5/23-- Gomen nasai! Time has kinda gotten away from me lately. Don't worry, this site is in for major improvements. With graduation twelve days away, you can expect much more effort from webmaster Daikun. If I can get my act together I might be able to piece together an entirely new, entirely better mp3 based j-pop culture site. A far cry from what I've eeked out up to now. Not that it matters a whole lot. Cause if my counter's right, about a whole dozen of you or so have truly visited my webpage. Most of those six hundred are all me. Kinda disappointing. Who knows, maybe you'll see me reincarnated on simplenet one of these days... For now, check out my music chart or something. Jya ne.
6/22-- Well, I think I'm finally gonna do it. I've planned to renovate this site and turn it into a lean mean jpop machine. If all goes well in my sometimes unstable life, version 3.0 should be ready by Independence Day--but don't hold your breath. Not that anybody cares because I know that my counters all work properly. My new plans include providing visitors with the latest jpop songs from the top of the charts. So, give me a few days and I'll see what magic I can come up with. And if anyone wants to chat with me on icq go right ahead, my number is 10137278. Jya ne.
7/4-- Well, take a look around. Not everything is fully functional yet, but in time that should be taken care of. There's just so much to do in the summer it's hard to find time to do it all. Some of the most recent chart toppers are available for download. Note that these are meant for evaluational purposes. Please read the entire disclaimer before downloading. If this version goes well I hope to expand the page and cover even more content than ever. And if I'm really bored, no I mean if I have the time I will open a mirror page written in Japanese for our friends from across the ocean or just those that are curious. Come back often. The music page should be updated about once a week. Hope you enjoy the new version. Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Jya ne.
8/16-- Sorry for the not-quite-weekly updates, but we all have stuff to do. This weeks update could be the last for a couple weeks. I'm packing up my computer and leaving for college this week. When I get everything set up again and I can find the time I promise to update again. Requests are now welcome. If there's anything you want just send me an e-mail, I probably already got it. I may open a request page in the future if people want to see that. Well, for now I still haven't had the time to work on lyrics or artist pages... maybe someday. Enjoy the mp3s as they keep coming, and be sure to visit my links, too. There are some great sites out there that certainly kick mine's butt. And don't forget to sign the guestbook and voice your opinions. Jya ne.
font size=5>8/27-- Well, I'm now here at school, but my computer still hasn't arrived my mail yet. I haven't forgotten about you guys. I promise to resume updates as soon as my computer is available and I can find the time. For all of you that care: Everything is a-okay in Daikun's life right now. I'm settling into a new environment and learning all about this crazy thing they call college. This homework stuff sucks, however. There's a hell of a lot more of it than in high school. Anyway, keep checking back for the updates, and sign the guestbook so I know who really visits this page. Till later. Jya ne.
9/8-- Okay, so I suck. Well, actually UPS sucks. My computer came, but it's not working right now and let me say that UPS customer sevice isn't exactly bending over backwards to help me fix it. Besides not having a computer to work with, I have gotten quite removed from the J-pop scene lately with all this settling into college bit that I've been going through. Most of you probably already have, or soon will go through all that so just bear with me for a while. I promise even better things for the future whenever my computer is running again. Chotto matte kure. Jya ne.
9/26-- Alright, I finally got everything updated recently. Nine of this weeks top ten are available for download. I highly recommend the three songs that received 5 stars. I have also caught up on the latest in jpop and I can once again provide the most current stuff out there. My computer, however, is still unfunctional, so for the moment I'm using my roomate's... I'm sure that's exactly what he wants on his computer, huge collections of jpop mp3s. Oh, well. He's got the hard drive space. When my computer does work, there will definately be some major enhancements to the site. Look for that in the next month to eight weeks, depending on how easy it will be to find a store that can repair my computer out here in the boonies of New York State. Hopefully it won't actually be that long, but worse almost always comes to worse, doesn't it? Jya ne.
10/24-- Well, great news. I got my computer back yesterday and everything works great. How long it's been since I last saw my beautiful Speed background. Now that I have access to all my files again I plan to do something grand. I guess the only thing keeping me back is the shitload of homework I am stuck doing every week. Keep your hats on. Sooner or later I'll make this page much better than it currently stands. By the way, if anyone's interested in helping with this site it would be appreciated. Lately there has been a flood of low quality jpop sites that are pretty useless. If we concentrate our efforts on several high quality sites instead of many crappy ones, we will all be happier :) Jya ne.
11/14-- Okay, so it's been awhile guys. Just be patient. I finally got my ftp server up! It took longer than I thought it would, but it's now available. If anyone is interested in a user account contact daikun at daikun@oocities.com, or icq# 10137278. I guess that's about all I have to say for now. Unfortunately no one seems interested in making a really nice jpop site so I guess I'll just keep on doing what I've been doing. Jya ne.
12/6-- Okay, I got lots to say this time. First of all I'm pleased the way the ftp server has worked out so far. Several of you have displayed interest and a couple, ahem, ash.zero, have spent more than a little while downloading jpop from the most complete server I have seen since that other huge one died back in May. For those of you interested in grabbing those missing files for your collection, DO SO NOW! I will be removing parts or all of the current jpop directory soon. I need to make space on my hard drive for more stuff so it all must go. Unfortunately for jpop downloaders winter break is coming up soon. This does not necessarily mean that the server will close, but it means that updates will be much less frequent. I will try to manage the site's updates, but the server will likely stay roughly the same. And why haven't I gotten any requests lately? Is there any interest in having a request page that will rotate through as more requests come in? Let me know so I can tailor the site to what people actually want. Also, I'm looking for ideas on something I could do extra special to celebrate the end of a great year in Jpop... Top 20? Top 50? All request? Please let me know!! I'm best reached on ICQ, #10137278. I'm usually connected all day, and often online in the evenings. And one last thing. From my contacts with some of the people who visit this site it seems like there's only a dozen or so regular visitors, so tell your friends about this site!. Let's change that and spread awareness of Jpop as a great alternative to all that other crap :) Jya ne.
12/27-- Okay, so unfortunately I was forced to close the ftp server for the next few weeks. It should make a grand return around the 20th of January. As for this site, I still haven't received any recommendations or requests for an end of the year extravaganza... And due to a crappy modem and not enough time, I will not be updating the top ten downloads until I return to school after the break. Just bear with me a little. Hope everyone is having a great holiday season, and will enjoy a wonderful 1999. Wow, just one more year till the world will come to a screaching halt... Jya ne.
1/20-- Hello again! Well here I am, back at school for another long semester. Good news is the ftp server is back up. If you want an account please send requests by email or icq(preferred). You must request an account even if you already had one from before. Your old account will not work. I'll try to post a "best of 98" or something like that in the next week. Also I will eagerly take any and all requests for changes/additions to the site, and also song requests. Tell me what you want so I can put it up. Jya ne.
1/20-- Well, that was pretty fast you're probably saying. And yes it was. I couldn't fall asleep tonight so there you go. All 50 of the top selling singles of 1998 are up here. And check out the new look to the music page. Happy downloading :) Jya ne.
3/28-- Well, there. It has been awhile since I updated the news page and a lot has gone on in jpop. My academic and social lives don't leave much room to follow jpop, but I try to keep as up to date as I can. Noticable changes on the scene are the debut of promissing talent Utada Hikaru. I've liked all four songs she's released a lot! Also, Suzuki Ami seems to be taking the stage as Tetsuya Komuro's main girl. Whatever happened to Tomo-chan, anyway?? Amuro has finally made her long awaited return to the delight of many, however her first two songs back aren't quite as inpressive as I would have liked. We are all happy to see her back nevertheless. And I was wondering where one of my favorites, Aikawa Nanase, went until she came out with her new single Cosmic Love. For some reason I really like her songs, despite the typically low ratings on the music charts. And some of you might be wondering what happened to the downloads that usually graced the music chart. Well, we can blame that on some silly group of music industry sorts who have begun medling with me. I guess they didn't appreciate my top 50 list. However, they probably aren't aware how many people find the internet as the only practical option for most of the world's population to listen to jpop, and by erradicating jpop mp3 sites they are greatly reducing the exposure of jpop to the world consumer market. Doh! Think again folks. If you live in a small island nation, and nobody else in the world speaks your language natively, that probably means you're not about to sell CDs to people, in say Switzerland. Yet I have recieved e-mail from more than one person in Switzerland alone who told me that my site has introduced him/her to a new type of music that s/he really likes. Listen to what I say. If you want to sell more CDs I assure you erradicating mp3s is not the answer. In the almost two years that I have been following Japanese music, I alone have enlightened dozens of friends, family, and netizens to the music that you very copyright people covet. Do you think that those people would have bought a jpop CD before they were introduced to it? No! Would they buy a jpop CD after they have been introduced to it? Maybe. I often hear talk of people like Tetsuya Komuro trying to expand his music to larger markets. Well, I don't know if there is a bigger, more accesible market than the internet. What better way to expose the world to your music. Apparantly these people who must harrass me with emails haven't thought very carefully about this. Okay, now that I have that off my chest I think I'll get back to my neverending pile of homework. Jya ne.
4/19-- Hello, everyone. Hope life's treating you kinder than I at the moment. Boy, schoolwork just piles up at this time of year. Well, recent changes have gone into effect. For the next month or so you'll need to check the ftp for the top 10. After that point Daikun will temporarily lose his fast connection and the site might experience some blips, but I'll try to keep everything running smoothly. Unfortunately the ftp will hibernate for the summer. Hopefully it will be back up around the end of August, sorry. Also please change your bookmarks. The current address may no longer be valid. Look for Daikun to resurface at http://i.am/daikun Sorry for the bum files lately, but just try the ftp, and it'll be jiggy. Jya ne.
