It is a true statement that every body will/is eventually speaking a language even though if it is not his/her own language (mother tongue). To speak a language, howeve , differ from enjoying a language. We may speak one or other language, which is probably necessary and good for our career and success, but only Pashtu/Pukhtu is the language which reflects our culture, our happiness, our anger, our goods, our not goods a d finally our identity. Asalam u Alaikum: I was very impressed by this page as I have been by many of the Pakhtoon pages. I think it is about time that Pakhtoons take a stand for their language and culture. For centuries we have allowed outsiders to stay in Afghanistan/Pakhtunistan, who success ully and systematicaly eradicated Pakhto and its importance as a language of choice in our homeland Afghanistan. Moreover, the sensitivity of Pakhtoons as people even further damaged Pakhto's ability to develop as a language. What I mean by this is that when there is one Tadjik person sitting among ten Afghans, the ten Afghans are polite enough to speak Farsi, thereby helping outsiders to wipe our language out. Here in the United States many parents choose to speak to their young hildren English and do not realize the importance of developing and keeping our language alive. The Pakhtoon community has failed to provide any kind of institution for the young children to not only learn about their culture, but also learn and enhance heir "Pakhto" speaking ability. One reason for this is that Pakhtoon/Afghan people have tremendous ability to mix with outsiders, which may be due to their complexion, especially on the Afghan side. This provides a tool to ignore our own roots and there y develop those of the others. Pashto has become a language that is very much in danger of disappearing and it is up to Pakhtoon men and women "the new generation" to revive the process.
