"The Heroic Trio," an overrated female superhero flick with a political conscious, is nearly saved by three of the industry's most powerful leads and co-star Anita Mui's catchy theme song. I have screened the film nearly ten different times through video rentals and a handful of appearances on cable and simply cannot get over how poor the film looks at times with its cheap sets, putrid special effects, and bellow par wire fu via Yuen Woo-ping. I suppose I have an even harder time getting over how many fans this film has. "The Heroic Trio" was filmed back-to-back and released the same year as its much darker (but superior, though just as problematic) sequel "Executioners."
