He is the male main character in the Slayers series (though some might argue Zel is). He first met Lina when Lina was surrounded by thieves (not that she was in any harm - she could blow them up anyday) and Gourry decided to help her. To his dissapointment it was not a blond, sexy, good looking rich princess (which would be typical of a fantasy novel) but a "big eyed, small breasted, short child". (Of course Lina casted fireball on him after that). Since then they have been travelling together. Gourry is a character which only appears in the novel Slayers not the other type of novelSlayers Special. He does appear on all 3 series of the anime (but not in the film series).
Now, Gourry himself is a good looking swordsman, age 20, and his skills as a swordsman is (like Lina's magic) one of the best around. The only problem is that he is smart as a slime or a dead zombi(whatever that is). He forgets everything he was told not to do and can't tell between one man and another or remember names.
Still his natural instincts as a sowrdsman is top class.
On the whole he is a nice man and does try to protect Lina and thinks it is his job to do so. He also does love Lina but only a bit and they really don't know their feelings yet. One sort of helps each other along the way without knowing. Also they are both very shy to talk about things like that though Gourry knew about "a girl's thing which happens every 4 weeks......" (i will leave that to your imagination -don't send me an e-mail concerning this topic).
