Introduction and History
The State of Bahrain, consisting of 33 islands and famous for its superb quality pearls has always been a center for trade and commerce. Some 3000 years B.C  (Bronze Age period) the ancient city of Dilmun had established trade links with Southern Iraq (early Mesopotamia) and the Indus valley (today situated in Pakistan and India). Iran (Persia) was also of great influence through the ages both as rulers and proctectors. This came to an end in 1780 when the powerful Al-Khalifa family arrived from Kuwait to gain ruling power in Bahrain. Today Bahrain is still an important economic center for trade, commerce and transport in the Middle East region.

Gamefowl in Bahrain
Bahrain is situated very close to Iran,Pakistan and India and due the extensive trade links between these countries and other countries like Turkey in past and present a whole range of gamefowl breeds has been imported into Bahrain from these areas. All birds are of Malayoid appearance and are either Asil or Malay-like. Due their origin birds are known as: Irani, Lari, Mashedy, etcetera. Over the years many of the earlier imported breeds have been crossed and therefor we can speak of "Bahraini Game".  However colours are not of importance Bahraini cockers favor blacks, reds and grays, the latter known as "jawee". Weights of gamefowl used in Bahrain range from 1.5 to 6 Kgs (3.3 to 13.2 Lbs). The tallest birds however  can reach a height of  ± 80 Cm (31Inches). Medium weight birds are in favor combining power and speed.

Cockfighting in Bahrain
Cockfighting is a favourite sport and legal pastime in the state of Bahrain. Birds are fought in natural heels. Gaffs or knives are prohibited. Owners arrange  their own fight and the birds size or weight is not that essential. Bahraini cockers mainly look for fighting style and effectivness of a fighting bird.
