The Red Thread on the Ring-Finger
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Kouryuu tells Kohaku to notice that Hotaru's eyes are purple in colour, and her energy is closer to a demon's like his.

Hotaru tells Shuuichirou that she is going to leave that night because her husband is going to die on the same day in the following year. Shuuichirou's father has already known about his death. She has the power to predict the future, and she cries whenever she thinks about her husband's coming death. She has to leave because she does not want to let her husband sees her crying. In the same time, Shuuichirou's father is at the door, and Hotaru hurries Shuuichirou to carry her out to see him. She says beside his ear to come get her that night when his father is asleep and brings her to the wisteria tree in the park.

From Hari and Ryuuri, Hisui and Kokyou knows that Kohaku have gone back to 13 years ago to look for Shuuichirou's mother.

At that night 13 years ago, Shuuichirou carries his mother into the dark. She stops by the tree in the garden to thank it for giving her a nice shade in the past, and she also tells Kohaku and Kouryuu to come along. However, Shuuichirou cannot see them.

Kokyou has realized there is evil energy emanating from the wisteria tree. And suddenly, the energy strengthens...

In the other dimension, Kouryuu has the same feeling too. Shuuichirou puts Hotaru down under the wisteria, but he holds on to her and says he is still there for her even his father is going to die. Hotaru tells him that she is bonded to his father by a red thread on their ring-fingers, but Shuuichirou's is bonded to someone else. She also tells him that the person will be very beautiful. But Shuuichirou says he will want no one else except Hotaru. Hotaru reassures him, and then reveals her true form. She says that she loves the name "Hotaru" because it is given to her by Shuuichirou's father. He has brought her home from this wisteria, and has said that he loves her and wants her to be his wife. Although Shuuichirou is not her own child, she loves him, too. She tells Shuuichirou that she loves him more than anyone else except his father. Shuuichirou asks what if it was him, instead of his father, who has come to discover her first. Hotaru simply says that the person who is bound to him will soon appear. Hotaru becomes one with the wisteria again, and disappears right before Shuuichirou's eyes. Hotaru is a spirit of wisteria, and therefore she cannot see nor walk because she has been a tree.

Kohaku has felt young Shuuichirou is undergoing a lot of pain, but right now he feels a pain in his heart. Kouryuu finally reveals his treachery that he is going to return to the present without Kohaku. Because of the hougan diagram, he can easily go back to the present. He brings with him the diagram, leaving Kohaku behind in a world where Shuuichirou cannot see him.
