SONNET OF SERENITY
by Nanami Kamimura
I'm waiting, Endymion,
Our roses are not done;
We'll still have our union
On Earth, under the sun.
Why you, why me, why us,
The pest'lence betrayed you;
Our love is humongous,
Not in the rules of you.
Our beads are now counted
Because of wrath thereof;
Our love can tie hatred,
But hatred breaks it off.
See each other on Earth,
Sometime after our birth.
This beautifully written Shakespearean sonnet denotes the feelings of
Princess Serenity, or Serena in the DIC version, had AFTER she and Endymion,
or Darien, were killed by Queen Beryll ("The pest'lence"). Even though Endy-
mion was with the Negaverse Empire, his love Serenity prevailed him ("Our
love is humongous/Not in the rules of you"). She felt that love never dies,
even when both she and Endymion became Usagi (a.k.a. Sailormoon) and Mamoru
(a.k.a.Tuxedomask), respectively, as denoted by the lines "Our roses are not
done/We'll still have our union/On Earth, under the sun" and the last two
lines of the poem.
This sonnet used strict syllabilic rules with six syllables in each
line, regardless of number of words, and Vanessa Cabuay, my college classmate
who happened to be one of the contributors of a book of poems dedicated to
John Glenn, felt that this sonnet above is beautiful. If you felt the same or
