Raye's Story part 3
By Mara
***************************************************************************
Raye walked down the street, a sarcastic grin on her face. She
smirked at her grandpa's parting words "Have a good day a school!" Yeah
right! How could anyone have fun with Meredith Pickard lurking just around
the corner waiting for any opening to attack? She held her head up high.
Today I will stand up to her. This time I won't let her make fun of me.
A block away from her school she heard a scream that nearly scared
the life out of her. "AAAAAHHHHH" she jumped up startled. "I'm SSSSSOOOOOO
late!!" A girl was screaming from one of the houses. Raye took a moment to
smile for real. This poor girl who slept in and was going to be late for
school. I almost feel sorry for the girl's parents, I can only imagine how
loud she was as a child. A bright smile lighted on her face and she
continued the rest of the way to school with a lilt in her walk.
She walked into class and sat down in a chair, just before the bell
rang marking people tardy. The smile was still on her face and wouldn't
seem to leave. For some reason the girl this morning made her forget about
her own troubles. She found herself thinking about what would happen to her
when she finally did make it to school. Probably got a detention.
She felt her grin widen. In the next desk a girl was giving her a
funny look. She took careful note of Raye Hino's grin. Wariness was in her
blue eyes and she nervously brushed her dusty blonde hair out of her face.
She had to tell Meredith about this. Obviously Raye was up to her tricks and
putting a spell on someone.
She carefully made sure that she didn't do anything to make Raye mad
today. Otherwise she might find herself with a hex on her. With that big
dance coming up, she was going with Billy Cartes and she didn'twant anything
to ruin this. Even though he hadn't asked her yet it was just known. Just
like it was known that Meredith was going to the dance with Philip Trent.
They were only the two hottest guys in school. Both of them were a
grade above the girls but it didn't matter. She didn't want anything to
happen like her dress becoming ruined. She carefully held her peace until
after class. She left quickly going in search of Meredith.
Raye left class still happy. Perhaps this day wouldn't be so bad
after all. She felt that just for this once she was owed something right to
happen in her life. Gradually she became aware of an ache in her stomache.
Queasiness soon followed. Oh no just when she thought things were going her
way. I guess breakfast didn't agree with me. She went to the nurse to get
a pass home.
Meredith stood outside class talking to Philip and Billy. She talked
animatedly about a dress that she had seen in a store. Philip stared across
the hall at nothing. Another girl with blonde hair soon joined them. Candice
gave a bright hello to the guys and then turned to Meredith.
"You won't believe what happened!" She stated excitedly. "Raye Hino
sat in class the whole intire time with this large grin on her face. I
don't know what she was doing but whatever it was it was bad."
Meredith grinned widely. "Oh she was probably cursing someone. This
will be investigated. Obviously it is me. You know how jealous she is of me.
Well she'll learn not to mess with me. I'll make sure that she gets what's
coming to her." Phil looked up interested in their conversation.
Candice stilled. "There she is!" She hissed.
Meredith looked over at the dark haired girl and smirked. Her eyes
followed the girl as she walked towards the door. She turned back to Candice
and started walking to class. She turned back to the guys. "Don't forget that
we're eating lunch together!" She called running to her class.
Phil followed Raye Hino with his eyes. Billy was staring at him but
he didn't notice. After she left the school he started to follow her.
Billy stared after him. "What about class?" he called to him.
Phil didn't even turn around. "What about it?"
Billy shrugged and went to his own class not wanting to be late.
Phil followed the brunette down the street. He watched her walking
with admiration. She certainly was a looker! There was a rush of people
walking along trying to get from one place to another. She seemed to not
notice them at all. Her head held high, she walked down the street with sure
steps knowing precisely where she was going.
He turned down an almost deserted street still following her closely.
Finally he desided to confront her. Slicking his hair back and fluffing his
bangs out he picked up his pace to catch up with her.
Raye walked down the street quickly. Her stomache ache was bad but
she knew somehow that it wasn't anything that she had eaten. Something was
wrong. Something bad was happening at home and she had to be there. Her pace
was quick. Determination filled her. Now she was in her element, this
protecting people, being able to help, that was what she did. Slowly she
became aware of someone following her.
She didn't mind it at first but she slowly became more uncomfortable.
Even though there were no bad vibes coming from this man, still anyone who
followed her was slightly scary. She felt the guy coming closer to her and
slowly made sure she was ready for a fight. Good thing I took those Karate
classes.
"Hi!"
The voice startled her but she didn't show it. Looking over at the
boy next to her. She thought she recognised him from school someone who knew
Meredith more then likely. She kept her guard up. "Hi." She kept walking on
towards the temple.
Phil sighed. Obviously this wouldn't be easy. "Your Raye Hino right?"
He looked at the girl in front of him. He knew he was good looking but it
didn't seem to affect this girl. Her looks however were definitly affecting
him. He felt closed off, almost like he was floating and seperate. His mind
was blank, not capable of making a single smart thought.
"Yes." The reply was cryptic. The icy tone made him realise that
something was wrong. Great only say five words and already you messed up and
offended her. "My name's Phil Trent."
She didn't answer. He decided to take the initiative again. "Where
are you going?"
Raye didn't stop or bother to look at the guy next to her, she didn't
know what he was up to but she also didn't know if he was such a bad guy.
"I'm going home. I have a stomache ache."
He was silent for a moment. "Do you mind if I walk you home then?"
Raye shrugged. "You can do what you like, I can't stop you. But I
don't want to talk so if you want to walk me home just be quiet okay?"
He grinned happily. "Alright."
The pair walked side by side in silence. Phil grinned goofily. He
felt words rush into his head but he knew she wouldn't like it if he said
anything so he kept it to himself. Through the whole town almost they walked
until finally they got to the steps of a shrine. Phil felt all of his leg
muscles protest in agony at the length of the walk. Raye wasn't even tired.
She turned to him and smiled. "Well, we're here. Thanks for walking
me home. Bye." She turned up the steps.
He stood surprised. "Wait!" he looked after her. "I thought you were
going home? This is a shrine!"
The smile that lighted her face was the most beautiful he had ever
seen. "I know its a shrine. Its also my home! good day." She turned to go
back up the steps. He stared up the seemingly endless stairway.
Ignoring his protesting legs he ran up the few steps to catch up with
her. "I'll walk you to the door." He started up the steps one by one.
Raye grinned to herself. She didn't know who this guy was but he
obviously wasn't used to so much physical exertion. She knew he was exhausted
when they had just reached the temple steps but actually going up all of
them? Finally they got to the top steps. The shrine itself revealed. The pain
in her stomache was a burning ache now. Hurting her to distraction. She
walked to the shrine and stopped.
Standing there was a tall darkhaired man. His pinstripe suit bore no
wrinkles and his hair was perfectly groomed into place. Raye felt her anger
rise inside of her. Eyes blazing she stalked to the stranger who was no
stranger at all.
"What do you think you're doing here? You aren't allowed here! GET
OUT!!!" She screamed at the man her face turning red. The man looked back at
her startled and also sad.
Phil stared at the scene wide eyed. What was going on?

Well that is all for chapter three. I may get chapter four out this week too
but I don't know. I won't promise anything. I made this one longer to make
up for the fact that I missed last weeks. Even if you think it isn't it is
just take off all the authors notes at the top and you will realise.
