> Combat Training
> This large room is where members of SOLDIER receive their training in
the various forms of combat. The room is divided into three sections, so that
the exercises won't interrupt each other.
> On the far left they are teaching weapons training. In the back of that
section is a shooting range, where recruits are being taught to use their
semi-automatic blaster-rifles. Towards the front recruits are getting lessons
in the melee weapon of their choice. The most popular weapon seems to be the
claymore, but there are several people sparring with sabres, katanas, nodachis,
and longswords.
> In the middle is an area for martial arts training. Several instructors
watch as their students face off against each other, moving with lightning fast
speed. As you watch, several others are attacking wooden practice dummies,
several of which are being quickly reduced to sawdust.
> On the right side of the room, a thick wall blocks off the view. A
heavy door leads into that part of the training area, and is heavily guarded.

> Kurasu is at work with one of the new trainees. She is in a sword-match
with the young man, and clearly outclassing him.
> Masaji walks in from the hallway, bearing a closer resemblance to Athan
every day. Poor guy looks like he hasn't slept in days. The reason? It probably
has something to do with the massive stack of paperwork he's holding.

> Kurasu doesn't even notice the entrance of her superior. She's too busy
keeping the young man on his toes. In fact, the calm-faced woman is doing more
than keeping him on his toes. he's being steadily driven back with the
sword'swork. She's doing little to nothing to really hold back, it looks like,
though she's dropped her skill and speed enough that he can parry most of her
moves. His strain is obvious, and she hasn't even broken the least bit of a
sweat. She just systematically continues the 'attack'.
> Masaji, being a relatively quiet sort, watches the display from the
doorway. It isn't all THAT unusual... SOLDIER first classes are exceedingly
well-trained, after all.
> Kurasu still doesn't seem to put notice to Masaji. Her eyes narrow ever
so slightly as she calmly parries each attack the new fellow tosses in her
direction. Suddenly, her own strikes speed to a full combat. Strike and parry.
Strike and parry. She pushes him to the very edge of the mat with her force,
suddenly stepping in. Her arm snaps out, snaking around his neck and bearing
back.
> Masaji speaks up, announcing his presence. "Kurasu."
> Kurasu doesn't appear to hear Masaji, as she snaps her blade up, laying
the sharpened edge along the young man's neck. The young man who is, presently,
looking terrified. His eyes are wide, as if he's not sure what to expect from
the heavily-skilled SOLDIER.
> Masaji repeats his earlier statement, a bit more forceful this time...
"KURASU. Your attention please."
> Kurasu actually hears him that time, at least. She looks up, a red
gleam to her eyes. A red gleam that you _may_ have been mistaken about.. as it
vanishes in the next blink. Her sword flickers away from the young man's neck,
and she looks down at him, releasing him. "Work on your blade skills." She then
steps away, leaving the fellow to scurry off for a bit, looking upwards at
Masaji.
> Masaji clears his throat. If you didn't know better (do you?), you'd
swear that he was slightly disconcereted by the whole spectacle. "I'm here to
give you an update on damage control at the Reactor core."
> Kurasu nods at that. "Hai, Masaji-sama." She draws a slow breath,
settling herself into an attentive look. It's almost as if nothing unusual had
happened. At least, not for her. Except, of course, for the young trainee
muttering to another about the 'nuts trainer' _he_ had.
> Masaji flips through his massive stack of papers... easily a few
hundred sheets, if you care to count. As he starts to pull out a stapled pile,
he comments, "... Was that necessary?"
> Kurasu hms? She looks over at the trainee, casually, then back over to
Masaji again, raising a shoulder in a half-shrug. "Enough." is all she says,
her eyelids drooping in a relaxed look.
> Masaji stares a Kurasu... after a pause, he says to any trainees still
on duty, "Dismissed for the evening."
> The trainees nod, then salute him, hurrying out the door. Kurasu stays
standing in the same way, as though either waiting for information, or the same.
> Masaji waits for the majority to exits, the gets down to business. "The
damage to the core was 34% under expectations... even so, we've been pulling
power from auxilliary sources for the time being. Starting the end of the week,
Reactor security will increase by half. And, for the time being, you'll be
assigned to supervise the SOLDIER division present."
> Kurasu nods again, thoughtfully, at that. "Understood, Masaji-sama."
It's hard to tell if she's relieved to hear that, or down on herself. She looks
calm enough, though, and she seems to be mentally 'adding' a few things up.
> Masaji tucks the papers back into the stack, without really caring
whether they're in order or not. He says, without looking at Kurasu, "... And
do try to be more gentle with the recruits. They are only human."
> Kurasu smirks slightly at that. "Of course." she says, inclining her
head. This time, there's almost a tone of sarcasm in the voice, and in the nod.
"I understand."
> Masaji continues, his voice a rather droll monotone... rather unusual
for him, actually, "I really don't want to have to report further demerits."
> Kurasu inclines her head once again to him. "I'd rather not have to
have you report them." she says, just as calm as she had been before. "Of
course, duty is duty." The smirk actually seems to crease into something
resembling a smile at that... and really, it's hard to tell which is more
unnerving. The familiar smirk, or the sudden smile.
> Masaji narrows his eyes at Kurasu... but doesn't pass any comment yet.
He's dealt with Hojo and Scarlett before... a little maniacal here doesn't mean
much. It just reinforces his rather morbid world view.
> Having said that rather cryptic remark, Kurasu then continues with,
"And if you're thinking I'm bitter about demotion, you had every right to be
reporting." her own eyes narrow for a moment, frowning seriously. "In fact, I
would have had to make my own reports on the matte,r if you hadn't."
> Masaji nods to Kurasu. "That's... reassuring to hear."
> Kurasu nods, keeping her stance where she is. She's gotten through what
she had to say. "Is there anything else, then, Masaji-sama?"
> Masaji shakes his head. "Not unless there is an immediate emergency.
Things have been calm since the last conflict."
> Kurasu would love to comment. _Boy_ would Kurasu love to comment. Brief
flickers behind her eyes might say something to that effect. But of course, she
refrains. "I agree. It's hard to tell if it's something to be worried about, or
something to be happy about."
> Masaji makes a note. "I suspect things will change shortly... if only
for the President becoming more... proactive in his business dealings."
> Kurasu glances at the huge stack of papers.. probably remembering
having to do similar paperwork... and nods, looking back at you once more. "I
hope they'll be a good assett to things, here." She's no buiseness sort. She can
just make guesses...
> Masaji hmms to himself, almost a guttural growl... "Indeed. We may even
live to see the results."
> Kurasu smirks a little bit. "All part of the job of being a SOLDIER,
Masaji. ...-sama." she adds the last bit as an afterthought. Oh yeah. Superior.
Right. "I just hope we'll have the people to keep it up."
> Masaji hmms at that as well. Definately a change of mannerisms... but
it isn't his job to worry about those. "If there are no other questions, you
are free to go."
> Kurasu bows slightly to Masaji, then straightens again, turning to
leave, loosening her cloak slightly. "Arigato, Masaji-sama." She sheathes her
sword, adjusting it comfortably, then doing a quick 'tidy' of her work-out
area. No, there's no blood on the mat...
> That's... mildly reassuring.
> Of course, we won't say anything about if Masaji _hadn't_ paused her...
> Of course.
> Kurasu finally finishes, heading for the door. "When do I report to the
reactor squad?"
> Masaji checks a paper. "Monday afternoon."
> Kurasu nods. A few days of rest. It'll do. She also pauses for a long
moment, looking vaguely thoughtful. Finally, she decides it has to be asked.
"Masaji-sama. Do you know what SOLDIER gives for.. maternity compensation?"
> Masaji nearly falls over at THAT little tidbit. Hmm, nearly killing a
trainee barely raises his eyebrow, but that hint...? "S... say what?"
> Kurasu just shakes her head at the total look of shock. "Nothing. Never
mind." Is she blushing? Bwah... that's a new one. Kurasu calmly turns away.
"Curiosity. I never thought to ask about any employee benifits."
> Masaji adjusts the fit of his collar. He's not disconcerted, really.
"I... I'm afraid I haven't checked in on that avenue of benefits. Has little
relavence to myself, after all."
> Kurasu nods at that, her look giving way to a nervous.. but amused..
chuckle. "So I can understand. I'll have to look into it elsewhere, I suppose."
> Masaji nods... VERY slowly... to Kurasu. "I can have the information by
tomorrow." He's certainly suspicious now... though more along the lines of who
the suitor might be.
> Kurasu isn't saying a thing. The look isn't going unnoticed... it's
obvious that it isn't... but she's not saying a thing about it. She's just
pretending _hard_ that it's gone unnoticed. "Arigato, Masaji-sama."
> Masaji utters, "Good evening, Miss Kurasu."
> Kurasu walks out the door. She half-slows for a moment, then rubs the
joint between her shoulder and neck, thoughtfully, and continues again, at
full-walk.
> Masaji . o O ( ..... Well, THIS is interesting. )
> Interesting... guess that's _one_ way to put it.
> Kurasu has left.
