Prologue
Darkness.
There was only darkness. Every sense
flared with the intangible subtance. In every direction, every path, every
way stood infininate darkness as far any anyone could percieve.
However, in the midst of the darkness
laid a presence. A presence so strong it almost casted light into the oppresive,
black void. The presence was without form or mind, but yet, it percieved
every aspect of the infinity that spread out before it. The presence was
slowly drifting... or walking.. or floating, flying, or swimming. The being
had no way of describing the action it was performing, for it could not
retain a thought or idea. The closest analogy to the presence would be
"a soul without body." The only ability the presence had was to question.
It questioned where it was, and why
it was dark. The being had recollections of a place of light, but without
a mind, these recollections were nothing more then impressions that were
left with it from another time. The being questioned was it was going,
and why. It could not understand why it was going, but it knew that going
was what it was to do. It didn't understand why it had to, but it did anyways.
The presence continued to move through
the infinite darkness slowly. Or possibly at an incredible rate. It had
no why of distingishing the two. It just knew that it was going. It continued
to go for what could have been thousand of years, or no more than a split
second. Time was a concept the being no longer understood.
Light.
Every sense flared with the intangible
subtance. Where there had been darkness now exploded with light. To a human,
the event would have been spectacular enough to cause the human to pass
out. But to the presence, it was just a change from black to white. It
continued to move in its direction, continuing to question.
But, this light was different from
the darkness. It wasn't just a change in color, which the being could not
see, but percieve. As the light... "happened"... "forces" began to affect
the presence. It percieved them occuring, but had no way of "feeling" them.
As the being continued to question and move, the light was suddenly replaced
with something much different from light or dark, or any color...
The light was replaced with awareness.
Part 1 - A Legend Begins
Slowly, the darkened figure looked
up.
"Ach... my head." moaned the figure
as he tried to stop the world from spinning in front of his eyes. He felt
numb and cold from head to toe. As he laid, facing upward, he felt little
hits of pressure on his skin. He realized was outside and it was raining.
From the intensity of the drops, he figured it was raining hard.
The figure rapidly blinked, trying
to clear his head. Eventually, he began to regain his senses. Slowly, he
began to make the environment that he was in. He was laying on his back,
on the ground in a puddle of rainwater. He was staring up into the dark,
night sky while the rain soaked the material that made-up his clothes.
As the figure's head cleared, he tried to think back to why he was in such
a position, and realized there was a slight problem.
He couldn't remember anything.
What a start, he bolted up into a
sitting position. The action caused every part of his body to scream in
pain. Forcefully ignoring it, the figure quickly ran through a mental checklist.
His name, who he was, where he was, why he was there, where "there" was,
etc... he couldn't remember any of it. He gripped the side of his wet head
and swore loudly.
"Great... I can't remember ANYTHING!"
shouted the figure angrily. "This isn't good. I better get out of here
and find some help..."
Careful not to hurt himself by moving
too fast, the figure slowly stood and scanned his surroundings. He was
on a small, grassy rise surrounded by a low, flat plain. Because of the
night and rain, his view of the distance was severely limited. After a
minute of looking, the figure noticed faint lights in the far distance
as he turned around.
"Looks like a town. Maybe I can find
help there." whispered the figure. He quickly took one more look around,
this time looking down. As he did, he jumped back in surprise. It was very
disconcerting to find yourself wearing clothes that you didn't even remember
owning. The figure was dress in a completely black outfit, accompanied
by a long black cloak with a hood. He took another glance at himself, then
sighed and threw his hood over his head, passing off his clothes as just
another part of the mystery about him.
"I wish I knew what in the world
was going on..." spoke the figure, pausing in thought, "For that matter,
I wish I knew what world this is."
The figure sighed again, and broke
out into a slow run, favoring his sore muscles.
"I hope that's a city, it will be
my first good luck of the night."
****
"Ah! It's a beautiful morning! You'd
never know there had been a huge storm last night. It kept me up all night!
Boy, I hate storms.."
As a reply, Luna flicked her ears
disinterestedly and tried to go back to sleep.
"C'mon, sleepy-head! Rise and shine!
We have alot to do today. Mina and Lita want to get together and go downtown
to do some shopping."
Realizing sleep would be impossible
with Serena nagging her, Luna slowly lifted her head and gazed at Serena
as she moved form her window to her closet.
"You mean YOU have alot to do today.
Walking around downtown all day long while you gossip and goggle over dresses
you'd never be able to afford isn't my idea of a productive day."
"Oh... and I suppose sleeping all
day is?" questioned Serena as she withdrew some clothes from her closet.
She quickly flung off her nightgown and folded it up with the rest of her
clothes. She grabbed a hairbrush and a towel and put them with her clothes.
As she did, a sly smile appeared on her face. "Say, Luna... what's Artemis
doing today?"
"Don't even start." replied Luna,
annoyance in her voice.
Serena replied with only a short
giggle and scooped up her clothes. She wrapped the bundle between her folded
arms and her chest as she began heading toward the hallway and the bathroom.
"Well, hurry and get up. I don't
want to be late for breakfast! It's the most important part of the day.
Right after lunch and snacks, that is..."
"Uh-huh..." mumbled Luna as she ignored
Serena and laid her head back down. "Sleep's also important..."
Instead of a response, Luna was suddenly
hit with a flying piece of pink cloth. As it landed on her head, Luna realized
it was Serena's nightgown by the immense giggling coming from the doorway.
Luna sighed and dropped her head between her paws.
"Maybe I should find a new room to
sleep in."
****
"Hi, guys!"
"Hey, Serena" shouted Lita as she
watched Serena came jogging up to her and Mina.
"Whatcha doing?" questioned Serena
as she caught her breath. Lita guessed that she ran the whole way from
her house, which was about two blocks away. The trio was standing at a
bus stop, waiting to catch the bus into town.
"Nothing much... just waiting for
you and the bus." replied Mina, glancing down road. "Didn't Luna want to
come?"
"Nah, she was gone by the time I
got out of the shower. I guess she's mad that I woke her up."
"What about Darien? What's he doing
today?" asked Lita.
"Oh, he's cleaning his apartment.
And since that's not my idea of fun, I decided to away for awhile..."
"We understand... you and work don't
seem to get along anyways."
"Hey! It's not that I'm lazy or anything!
I... I just don't like it."
"Serena... your the lazest person
I know. And you always have been, so don't worry about it..." Lita said,
smiling. She took a glance down the road and took a step closer to the
curb. "Anyways... the bus is coming."
As the group boarded the bus and
rode into town, the conversation generally revolved around the weather,
and who was newest cute guy at school. All three were in agreement that
the weather was pretty strange last night. None of them had heard any indication
of a storm coming on the television, and it was like it came out of nowhere.
Finally getting off the bus at a
busy intersection in town, the trio managed to visit over a dozen shops,
without buying a single thing, over the course of the morning. At about
noon, the group found a restaurant and had lunch.
"Ooo... everything looks SO good!"
"We know, Serena If you had your
way... you'd order everything too."
"It's not my fault I get hungry!"
Lita and Mina replied by breaking
out in soft laughter. Serena quickly joined in, smiling. As Serena continued
to laugh, a figure dressed in black slacks and a white shirt slowly approached
unnoticed. He paused, glanced around, then suddenly dashed by the trio's
table and snatched up Serena's open money purse. Before anyone could react,
the figure was at the door, running out.
"HEY! STOP HIM! HE'S GOT MY WALLET!"
shouted Serena as the group jumped up in unison and ran after the thief.
The sight they saw when they reached the door caused all three to stop
dead in their tracks.
The thief was trying to run across
the street after stealing Serena's wallet. As he did, a dark figure with
brown, curly hair dressed in a black outfit and cloak appeared out of nowhere
from the crowd and blocked the thief's path. The thief took a swing with
his free hand at the face of the mysterious figure. Just as quickly, the
figure blocked the attack. Without missing a beat, the figure quickly spun
on his heel and delivered a round-house kick to the head of the thief,
causing the thief to drop Serena's purse and stumble back, gripping his
head. An instant later, the figure delivered a second kick into the mid-section
of the thief, his cloak billowing around him, and brought the thief to
the ground, unconscious.
The figure slowly walked over to
the collapsed thief and scooped up Serena's fallen purse. He paused and
glanced at the thief, then slowly turned and approached the stunned Lita,
Mina, and Serena
"I think you dropped something, Miss."
spoke the figure gently, a small smile appearing on his face. Serena continued
to stare at the figure as she realized who he looked like.
He looked like Darien.
Except, the figure was slightly taller,
and he had curly brown hair instead of straight black hair. But from a
distance, with the black clothes and cloak, she would not have been able
to distinguish him from Tuxedo Mask.
"T-th-thank you, sir..." stuttered
Serena as she slowly took her purse back.
"My pleasure. Anything I can do to
help." answered the figure warmly as he took a step back and nodded to
Serena He quickly turned to Lita and Mina and nodded also, causing them
to blush. He smiled again, turned, and walked off into the crowd of people
that had been watching, stunned. They automatically parted for the figure,
never taking their eyes off him. As he disappeared into the crowd, a police
officer came into sight and headed toward the fallen thief.
Watching the crowd and the police
officer in slight amazement, Lita quietly spoke.
"Wow! That guy... it was like he
came out of nowhere!"
"Yeah... and did you notice how cute
he was? Hey Serena! You couldn't have asked for someone better to rescue
your purse." said Mina, turning with Lita in unison toward Serena, who
was still staring in the direction the figure had left.
"Yeah... no one better..." spoke
Serena distractedly as she continued to stare.
****
The figure continued to move the bustling
street, not having a slight clue as to where he was going. His memory still
had not returned since the night before, and the more time that passed
the more dishearted the figure became.
He had come upon the city an hour
after he took off toward it from the hill he woke up on. He caught a sign
upon entering the tremendously large metropolis that told him he was welcomed
to "Tokyo". The name had not rung a bell, which did not surprise the figure
since nothing else seemed to ring any bell either. Because of the pouring
rain and the lateness of the night, the figure decided that he should seek
shelter and begin to search the huge city the next day. Hopefully, by then
the storm would have passed. Given the limited options, the figure managed
to spend the night in the shelter of a large box he found in a dark alley.
In the time that it took him to slip into the depths of sleep, he had a
revelation about his mental condition. He could not remember any names
of people or places, nor did he have any memories or knowledge of anything
before that night, but he did manage to remember one thing. He retained
his memory of general knowledge.
He couldn't explain it. He could
tell the difference between a city and a box, but he could not even remember
his own name. It was like something had completely blocked out anything
about his life or the world he was on, but he had complete knowledge of
the things around him. He was able to remember what a restaurant was or
what a car was, but he was not able to remember names of popular restaurants
or popular cars. Realizing this, he became more distraught. He couldn't
explain why he was in such a condition, and ended up falling asleep with
the questions of what was going on still racing through his mind.
The next morning had brought some
reprieve from the depression he felt. His clothes were almost dry and it
turned out to be a gorgeous day. He resolved to explore the city in the
hopes that he might find something that would jog his memory, like a family
member or hospital that could help him. He would come to realize later
that instead of those things, he found nothing but a day full of shocking
surprises.
The first surprise came to him as
he was walking down the crowded sidewalk few minutes later, scanning his
surroundings. His gaze quickly flicked to the left of him, and caused him
to stop in his tracks. He caught, out of the corner of his eye, the storefront
for a antique mirror dealer. The glass front housed a wide selection of
various mirrors, each one containing a face that was completely unknown
to him, just like the rest of the faces he saw. But he realized that there
was one difference between the face in the mirrors and all the others he
saw.
The unknown face was his own.
He stepped back in shock, causing
several people around him to stare at him. He ignored them completely and
focused on trying to calm his pounding heart. The face that looked at him
held emerald-green eyes with streaks of silver running through them and
brown, very-curly hair. The figure knew it to be his own, but he had no
recollection of the face. He realized that not recognizing your own face
was more disconcerting than he had thought it would be. Hesitantly, he
pulled his eyes way from the reflection and began to walk again in a much
more rapid pace than before, as if trying to put distance between him and
the face that now haunted his thoughts.
His second surprise of the day came
shortly afterwards the mirror incident. As he continued his aimless walking,
he watched as the door to a restaurant up ahead of him suddenly flung open,
and a man in slacks and a white shirt came bursting out, looking over his
shoulder. The figure suspected something was wrong, and soon had his suspicions
confirmed as he heard a girl's voice screamed out from inside the restaurant
that she had just been robbed. Before the figure knew what he was doing,
he leapt out of the crowd and into the street. He watched in astonishment,
as if he were watching from the sidewalk, as he flung himself upon the
thief and blocked his path. He couldn't understand the overwhelming urge
that pulsed through him, commanding him to confront the thief. Like an
outside force driving him on, he attacked the thief. Again, he moved without
thinking as he brought his hand up and blocked a blow from the robber.
Without pausing, he suddenly launched a kick to the head of the thief.
He instantly delivered a second kick to the robber's mid-section, which
quickly dropped him to the ground. Shaking off his momentary astonishment,
the figure reached down and picked up the purse that the thief dropped.
He turned to the crowd and spotted the girl that had shouted. As he approached,
he couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was. Of course, she was rather
young, but the figure could not help but have a strange feeling as he looked
at the girl. He noticed that the girl also held a perplexed look, and wondered
what she could be thinking.
He quickly returned the purse and
walked away, hoping to get out of sight quickly. He didn't know what just
happened, but he felt incredibly embarrassed by it. Afraid that he was
blushing, the figure dropped his face and tried to blend into the crowd.
A moment later, he knew that he was out of sight of the restaurant and
sighed, not knowing quite why.
"Maybe I'm not feeling as well as
I thought I was..." mumbled the figure as he continued walking, still not
sure of where he was going.
****
"Hiya, Kitty-cat."
"Oh, don't you start, too." responded
Luna softly, as she laid on a large, stone wall that marked part of someone's
property. She opened her eyes slowly, and glanced down to see the figure
of Artemis standing below her on the pavement, smiling slyly.
"Why? What's wrong?"
"Nothing... it's just that Serena
had been bugging me all morning, and I finally found a place that I could
rest at in peace. But now that your here, it looks like getting to sleep
is going to be impossible."
"Oh! Well, sorry! I'll go if you
want." called Artemis, in a mock hurt tone. He motioned turning to leave.
"No, wait. I'm sorry to sound like
that. I guess I'm just cranky. Serena woke me up early this morning."
"You think YOU got up early? Mina
got me up at five! She went jogging early, then got ready to meet with
Lita and Serena I've had two hours of sleep, at most. That storm last night
kept me up all night."
"The storm?" questioned Luna, in
a perplexed voice. "I've never known you to be afraid of storms."
"I'm not. It's just... well..." said
Artemis, pausing. "Did you feel anything... odd about last night's storm?"
"No..." answered Luna, thinking back.
"But, I feel asleep early. Serena wore me out yesterday. I swear, we must
have went all over half of the city. She was looking for some dress or
something, and she forgot where she first saw it."
"Well, I got some weird... feelings
about the storm. I couldn't put my finger quite on it, but I'm sure that
was no ordinary storm."
"Really? How so?"
"I don't know. It... It was like--"
began Artemis. He was suddenly interrupted as the sound of a large explosion
erupting into the air. The blast of sound was instantly followed by a incredible
flash of light off in the distance, right of Luna and Artemis.
The two cats instantly turned their
heads in surprise. Off in the distance, a huge bolt of lighting struck
the Tokyo Tower from a mass of dark clouds that had at some point formed
in the once clear sky. The clouds were racing outward and across the rest
of the city at an incredible rate. Within moments, the sky above Luna and
Artemis became as dark as night. Along with the clouds came powerful winds
that blew through the fur of the two cats like a knife.
"What's going on?!" shouted Luna
above the wind as she rose to her feet.
"I don't know!! It came out of nowhere!
What do you--" shouted Artemis in reply. He was again silenced in mid-sentence
by another loud noise. This time though, the noise was different. Luna
and Artemis barely had time to think before a shockwave slammed into them,
causing Artemis to wobble about and Luna to lose her balance and leap to
the ground next to Artemis for safety. The shockwave confirmed what both
cats had thought the new noise had been.
A sonic boom.
"Do you feel that?!" shouted Artemis
as he looked ahead into the wind and watched as the Tokyo Tower was blasted
by another bolt of lightning.
"Yes... I feel it..." replied Luna,
her voice grave. She also looked towards the Tower, her face betraying
her horror. "It's a massive amount dark energy... and it's coming from
the tower."
****
"What's going on?!"
"It's another storm, Serena! Head
for that building!" answered Lita, shouting to be heard over the pounding
wind. She quickly pointed to the entrance of the nearest building, which
turned out to be a clothing store. Even as she pointed, rain began to fall
down from the sky above at a torrential rate. The rain being all the convincing
she needed, Serena took off after Lita toward the building. Mina was quickly
on her heels as the group made their way into the store. Surprisingly,
the store was almost deserted even though as soon as the storm hit, everyone
on the street ran for shelter in the nearest buildings.
"What's happening?" questioned Serena
as she shook water from her twin pony tails. As if in reply, Mina's communicator
sounded.
"Maybe we'll soon find out." spoke
Mina as she looked around for any other people. Seeing none, she quickly
pulled her communicator from her bag and flicked on. An instant later,
the face of Ami appeared on the screen.
"Mina here. What's up, Ami?"
"Alot..." spoke Ami over the communicator,
her voice containing a hint of worry. "Listen, Rei is over here. Her and
I have compared what she is sensing and what I am reading from my computer,
and we have reached some conclusions. First, the storm is no ordinary storm.
It's an energy storm. The storm itself came out of nowhere... but when
it hit, Rei was almost knocked down by what she sensed and my computer's
readings went off the scale. Guys, I think we have a problem."
Mina, Lita, and Serena glanced outside
in unison and turned back towards the screen.
"I guess we do." spoke Lita, leaning
over Mina's shoulder. "But, do you know exactly what's going on?"
The image of Ami was suddenly replaced
by the face of Rei as Ami handed off the communicator.
"We don't know yet. But we do know
one thing. This is energy storm is made of only one kind of energy. Dark
energy. And the source of the dark energy, and the storm itself, seems
to be coming from the top of Tokyo Tower. Ami and me are heading there
now. We've gotten in touch with Luna and Artemis, and their on their way
too."
"Alright, we'll meet you there in
a bit. Mina out." Mina replied. An instant later she flicked off the communicator
and turned to Serena and Lita.
"Looks like we have to take a little
walk in the rain."
"Right. We'd better get going." replied
Lita.
"Wait. Do you mean we have to go
back out in the storm?" asked Serena, shivering.
"I'm afraid so, Serena We have to
get to the Tower and find out what's happening." answered Lita, heading
toward the door with Mina. "You coming?"
"Ooo... I hate storms." whispered
Serena as she moved to join Lita and Mina.
"We know."
****
"Damn! Another storm!" shouted the
nameless figure. He ran to get under the overhanging roof of a nearby store.
It didn't provide much protection, since the wind carried the rain in sideways,
but it was better than just standing in the street.
The figure slowly pulled off the
hood of his cloak and ran his hand through his wet hair. He glanced around
noticing that where there had once been a crowd people walking along, there
was now a deserted road. As the figure continued to look around, he caught
sight of the Tokyo Tower. When he did, an overwhelming sense of dread filled
him. He couldn't explain it. He continued to stare at the slightly glowing
tower as strange feelings ran through him.
"I... I need to go there..." distractedly
whispered the figure as he felt an incredible urge to head to the tower.
He didn't know why he wanted to go there, but he knew that it felt important.
Taking a strong breath, the figure
quickly flicked his hood back onto his head and ran out into the pounding
rain and wind. He didn't know why he was going, but he knew that he should.
He had to find out what was going on, and he felt he knew a fairly good
place to start.
The Tokyo Tower.
****
"Look! It's the guys!"
At the sound of the voice, Serena,
Lita, and Mina turned and looked up a side street that was crossing the
one they were on. Sure enough, Ami, Rei, Luna, and Artemis were there,
heading in the direction same direction. As quickly as they saw each other,
the two groups quickly merged on the road Serena, Lita, and Mina were on.
"I'm glad we caught you guys! I didn't
want to reach the Tower without all of us there. The dark energy coming
from it is enormous. I'd hate to tackle anything that could put out that
much energy." spoke Rei, shielding her face from the rain.
"You think that it could a demon
that's putting out the energy? Who could it be?"
"Haven't a clue. Could be anything."
replied Rei. "But, I think we should find out as fast as possible."
"I agree with Rei. The quicker we
locate the source of this energy distrbance, the better chance we'll have
of preventing it from possibly harming people. And if it is a demon...
it's our job to stop it."
"Why does this always happen to us?
Why can't it happen to someone else?" asked Serena, sighing.
"Because no one else is SAILOR MOON,
you ditz! And just HOW long have you been fighting demons?"
Instead of giving a reply, Serena
made a face at Rei and turned her head away indignantly.
"C'mon, you two. Can't you stop fighting
for just a little bit? At least until we check out the Tower?" said Artemis,
who was standing under Mina's legs, using them for cover.
"It's Rei's fault! She--"
"ENOUGH! PLEASE!" shouted Luna.
"Sorry."
"Thank you." sighed Luna. "Now. We'd
better hurry and get to the Tower. The storm is getting worse."
Needing no more hints, the group
resumed their jog toward the Tokyo Tower. The reality of just how much
energy the Tower was putting off became apparent as the group drew close.
Up close, the Tower was pulsating with light more brightly then anyone
had thought. The very energy coursing through the mass of steel and iron
created a humming in all of the group ears. It was especially loud to Luna
and Artemis who had both more sensitive ears and the ability to sense the
energy. Because of the energy and the storm, the Tower looked more like
a gigantic lightning rod than a building/structure.
"Wow. You weren't kidding when you
said the readings were off the scale." distractedly whispered Mina to Ami
as she came to a stop in front of the tower and looked up towards the top
of the structure in awe. As she did, Ami brought out her small Mercury
computer and flicked it on.
"Well, I'm having trouble reading
through all the excess energy... but..." began Ami, continuing to scan.
"It appears that the largest concentration of energy is in the observatory."
The group looked up towards the faint
outline of the observatory high atop the Tower. Because of the weather
and the distance, it was hard to distinguish from the rest of the Tokyo
Tower.
"Hang on. Something's happening."
said Ami, looking at her computer. The rest of the group turned to look
at her. "I'm reading a large build-up of energy... it's as if..."
Ami's head suddenly shot upwards.
She gazed up toward the faint outline of the observatory, and suddenly
turned to look at the rest of the group with a look of horror in her eyes.
"RUN! We're under attack!!" shouted
Ami at the top of her lungs as she flailed her arms. Even as she shouted,
the area where the observatory was flashed with bluish energy, and a large
bolt of blue lightning appeared out of the misty sky from the Tower. Before
anyone could move, the bolt of energy slammed into the ground near the
group, exploding with enough force to launch the group from their feet
and into the air. Shouting in unison, Lita, Serena, Mina, Luna, Rei, and
Artemis dropped to the ground and began to roll away.
"Scouts! TRANSFORM!!"
Instantly rising to their feet, the
girls suddenly shouted out into the misty air:
"MOON CRYSTAL POWER!!!"
"MERCURY STAR POWER!!!"
"MARS STAR POWER!!!"
"JUPITER STAR POWER!!!"
"VENUS STAR POWER!!!"
Instantly, the girls flashed with
light and changed into the Sailor Scouts. Without hesitating, they quickly
moved into action.
"C'mon Sailor Venus, let's show whoever
is up there what it's all about!" shouted Sailor Jupiter, taking a step
towards the Tower.
"Right." replied Venus, also stepping
forward. "VENUS CRESENT BEAM...SMASH!!!"
"JUPITER THUNDER...CRASH!!!"
A second later, twin beams of energy
and lightning sliced through the air, traveling toward the Tokyo Tower
Observatory with the power of a small arsenal. The duo knew they had hit
the observatory when the top of the tower and the sky surrounding it suddenly
exploded and flashed with yellow and green light. As it did, the Tokyo
Tower slowly began to stop glowing. By the time the light from the twin
blasts was gone, the tower had stopped glowing completely. The scouts looked
on as the rain slowly subsided in unison with the glowing of the Tower.
"Wow." whispered Sailor Moon as she
looked up at the darkened, but rainless sky. "Do... do you think we got
it, whatever it was...?"
"I don't know." replied Sailor Mercury,
activating her visor. She slowly looked up and down the length of the tower.
"I'm reading no signs of dark energy. It looks like we got it."
"What do you think, Luna? Do you
sense anything?"
"No... I don't feel any--"
Her voice was suddenly cut off by
the sound of another large explosion, coming from behind the group. The
group turned in time to see a second bolt of blue lightning careening toward
them. Again, the group had no time to react before the bolt struck. This
time, however, the bolt managed to catch Luna and the near-by Artemis.
The force of the blow caused them to fly backwards into the air and onto
ground behind the rest of the group. As they shouted and flew back, a screaming
laughter filled the air in the direction the lightning blast came from.
The scouts quickly looked from the fallen Luna and Artemis back towards
the laughter.
Floating in the air several yards
from the group was a demon.
The demon was slowly sinking and
rising as he floated and laughed darkly in the air in front and above the
scouts' heads. He was humanoid, but the main difference was that his slick,
straight hair was bluish-black, and his eyes, the only thing showing under
a pure white face mask, were glowing red. On his body, he wore a outfit
and cloak that were completely white on the right-side and completely black
on the left-side. His face mask was painted with a demonic smile and features
that caused Sailor Moon to shiver in fright. In his dark bluish hands he
held three juggling balls: one blue, one red, and one green.
"Hmmm... this is interesting. There
appears to be some resistance here after all." spoke the demon, in an deep,
unearthly tone. He continued to crackle with demonic laughter from under
his face mask.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
Rei called up to the demon, anger in her voice.
"I am Wicki, the Dark Jester! I have
come to prepare your planet." replied the demon, as he slowly softened
his laughter.
"Prepare our planet for what?" asked
Sailor Mercury.
"For it's end!" screamed Wicki, roaring
with laughter again. As he did, he threw each one of the balls he was holding
into the air one by one. To the scouts surprise, instead of falling, the
balls began to float and twirl, as if the demon had been juggling them.
"And it looks like the end is going
to start with you!"
"It looks more like that mask is
cutting off your air supply, buddy. We'll just see who 'ends' first..."
shouted Sailor Moon as she took a step closer. The rest of the scouts formed
stances behind her, each with the same determined look as Sailor Moon.
"For attempting to harm us and our
world... In the name of the moon... I will punish you!"
"I'm sure you will..." spoke Wicki,
laughing again. He slowly stretched his arm out. As he did, the floating
green ball stopped turning in the circle and floated out to the end of
his arm. As it came to a halt above Wicki's outstretched arm, it began
to spin and glow. The scouts took a step back, not sure of what was happening.
The second they began to move, thin beams of green light exploded off of
the glowing ball and began to rain down onto the scouts. The scouts instantly
dove away, dodging the laser beams as each flew past and struck the ground
with a hiss and a large burn mark. Sailor Mercury hit the ground with a
roll and came to a stop by springing to her feet expertly. She quickly
pivoted on her foot and turned to face the floating demon again.
"SHINING AQUA ILLUSION!"
The blast of frozen ice and water
instantly exploded from her hand and sailed directly toward the floating
green ball. The blast connected with a splash and burst of light, causing
the ball to become encased in a small block of ice. After hanging for a
moment, the ball quickly dropped from the air, slamming into the ground.
The force of the hit caused the frozen ball to shatter into several pieces.
"What the...?!" shouted Wicki, realizing
what had happened. He quickly turned to face Sailor Mercury and threw his
hand forward. The twirling blue ball suddenly launched forward in the same
manner as the green one did. An instant later, a familiar bolt of blue
lightning exploded from it and directly toward Sailor Mercury. She caught
the beam in her mid-section with full force, and stumbled backwards screaming
in pain. She dropped to the ground and moaned softly in pain, just as Luna
and Artemis were doing. Wicki began to laugh again.
"Foolish human..."
"You'll pay for doing that, you beast!
JUPITER THUNDER CRASH!!"
Unfortunately, the Dark Jester saw
the blast of lightning in time to float sideways and backwards in the air,
causing the blast of energy to sail harmlessly past the front of him.
"Your ALL fools! Do you think you
can stop me with these simple tricks?" screamed Wicki as he turned back
to the group. "You'll get nothing but a quick death if you do!"
Wicki flung his hand out and caught
up the floating blue ball. He slowly gripped and closed his eyes. As he
did, he slowly raised it above his head.
"DIE HUMANS!!" screamed Wicki as
he trusted his hands and the ball forward. As his arms reached their length,
the blue ball exploded with several long bolts of blue lightning, careening
directly towards the four standing scouts. The four bolts of energy homed
in on each scout with deadly accuracy. As the bolts sailed towards the
group, Sailor Mars suddenly turned and launched herself at Sailor Moon,
who was right next to her. She connected forcefully, knocking Sailor Moon
out of the way of the bolts and onto the ground. Sailor Moon watched in
horror as Sailor Mars took the force of not only her blast, but also of
the one that was aimed for Sailor Moon.
"NOOO!" shouted Sailor Moon from
her position on the ground as Mars, Jupiter, and Venus collapsed to the
ground, shaking violently and convulsing, while the lightning bolts continued
to electrocute them. The smell of ozone and burnt flesh began to fill the
air.
"Hahahahaha... welcome to the end,
fools. I told you I would bring you here." laughed Wicki demonically as
he continued to blast the scouts with the bolts of energy. As he tilted
his head back in laughter, a line of laser-red light flashed past his head,
causing him to stop laughing with a start.
"What the--?" cried Wicki as the
flash of red sliced through his blue ball and continued to travel down
to the ground. Wicki quickly looked down and saw what the flash of red
was.
It was a rose.
Wicki looked back to the ball he
was holding in horror. As he did, the ball suddenly cracked down the middle,
where the rose sliced through, and split in half.
"NO!!" screamed Wicki, as he looked
on in horror. The ball he was holding suddenly exploded in his hands with
a tremendous blast of light that knocked him backwards, and onto the ground.
He landed with a shout and began to roll. Managing to slow himself quickly,
he stood back up and looked in front of him.
Standing in front of him was Tuxedo
Mask, with another rose in his hand.
"Who are you?" shouted Wicki as he
took a step back.
"I am YOUR end, Demon. I am Tuxedo
Mask, Protector of the Sailor Scouts and Sailor Moon." Tuxedo Mask
called as he brought the rose he was holding into a throwing position.
Behind him, Sailor Moon was looking between him and the other scouts, who
were on the ground, in either too much pain to rise or unconscious.
"Sorry to disappoint you then!" screamed
Wicki as he threw himself into a dive to the side. As he did, he grabbed
his red ball which was still twirling around him and heaved it at Tuxedo
Mask. As the demon landed into a roll, the red ball slammed into the ground
in front of Tuxedo Mask, exploding under him. The explosion sent Tuxedo
Mask rocketing backwards into the air and onto the ground with a loud 'THUD'.
As Tuxedo Mask landed, Wicki disappeared in a flash of green light, laughing.
"TUXEDO MASK!" shouted Sailor Moon,
running to him. She watched the demon disappear in a blast of light, but
ignored it.
"I'm... I'm alright." moaned Tuxedo
Mask as he slowly stood up. "Caught me by surprise, that's all..."
"Are.. are you sure?"
"Trust me... I'm fine..." answered
Tuxedo Mask, slowly looking around. His eyes came to rest on Sailor Mercury's
computer, which was discarded on the ground, still taking readings of the
Tokyo Tower. He declined Sailor Moon's supportive arm, and began to approach
the computer as he stared at the screen. When he reached it, he swung down
and scooped up the little palm computer. Slowly, Sailor Moon walked over
to Tuxedo Mask, who was staring at the screen intently.
"What is it? What's wrong?" asked
Sailor Moon, trying to read Tuxedo Mask's facial expression.
"Well, if I am reading this right,
it looks like there is another spike in dark energy up in the Tower." answered
Tuxedo Mask, looking up at the observatory. "It looks like the demon went
back up there."
"What do you think he is doing up
there?"
"I don't know." said Tuxedo Mask,
handing the small computer to Sailor Moon. He began to walk toward the
Tower. "But I intend to stop him."
"You mean...?"
"I want you to stay here and watch
the others while I go up there and check it out. I think it's time we found
out just what's so important about the Tower to that demon."
Tuxedo Mask approached the bottom
of the Tokyo Tower. At the middle of the bottom rested one of the two elevators
to the observatory. As he moved toward it, Sailor Moon suddenly took a
step out.
"But... I don't want to stay here
alone. I want to go with you!"
Tuxedo Mask stopped and turned towards
Sailor Moon. He realized how worried Sailor Moon was about him and the
demon.
"I know, Serena..." softly spoke
Tuxedo Mask. "But it's too dangerous."
"I know! That's why I want to come
with you! I'm... I'm afraid you'll get hurt if you try to stop that monster
alone. He's REALLY powerful." Sailor Moon replied, shifting her weight
from foot to foot.
"Serena..." spoke Tuxedo Mask quietly,
opening his arms. A second later, Sailor Moon rushed into his arms and
hugged him tightly.
"Please, I have a bad feeling about
going up there." whispered Serena, tears swelling in her eyes.
"I know. But I have to go. It's not
like I don't want you with me..." said Tuxedo Mask, also whispering. "But,
if you come... who will watch after the others? They're hurt badly... "
"I will care for them."
Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon instantly
whirled around to face the new voice. Sailor Moon gasped in surprise as
she saw a black-clad figure with a cloak standing a couple yards in front
of them.
"You're... you're the man who rescued
my purse!" shouted Sailor Moon in surprised voice. "What are you doing
here?"
The black-clad chuckled softly.
"I wish I knew. But, needless to
say, here I am. I felt driven to come here for some reason." replied the
figure. He smiled and shook his head slightly. His rain-drenched hair flung
water off as he did. "I've been getting these funny feelings all day."
"You know this person, Sailor Moon?"
questioned Tuxedo Mask, looking down at Sailor Moon.
"He-- I mean, this afternoon my purse
was stolen... and he was the one that got it back for me. He knocked the
thief unconscious, and took it back."
"Well then... I am in your gratitude."
spoke Tuxedo Mask, taking a step forward and extending his gloved hand.
The figure took it in his and shook it.
"No, the pleasure was all mine! I'm
always happy to help a lady in distress." replied the figure, smiling again.
Sailor Moon blushed slightly and looked away, also smiling. Tuxedo Mask
looked down at her and began to smile too as he saw Sailor Moon wipe away
her tears.
"Now. If I'm not mistaking, you two
have some unfinished business with that monster. Don't worry about the
others... I'll stay here and watch over them." spoke the figure, growing
serious once again. He glanced down at the others, and then looked back
to Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask.
"Are you sure? It's not safe."
"Hey. Don't worry about me. I have
nothing to lose." answered the figure. He smiled reassuringly.
"Then I'm in your debt once again.
Thank you." said Tuxedo Mask. He paused for a second, then spoke up again.
"You know... I don't even know your name."
The figure gulped slowly. He didn't
know how to explain that he didn't know his name. He cleared his throat
and his mind, trying to think of a way to tell them. As he did, he received
his third surprise of the day.
A single word popped into his head.
He didn't have any clue why it was that word, but he did know that it felt
right.
"My name..." spoke the figure, distracted
by his own thinking. "My name is Matt."
"Thank you, Matt. I don't know what
we would have done without you." spoke Tuxedo Mask. "Come on, Sailor Moon...
we better hurry."
Matt watched the duo turn and walk
to the elevator. They slowly entered and turned to face Matt. He gave a
reassuring nod as the doors closed and the elevator began to ascend.
He had no way of knowing, but at
that moment, the newly-identifed Matt watched his future rise above him.
****
"What IS all this stuff?"
Those were the first words out of
Sailor Moon's mouth as she stepped out of the elevator slowly and looked
around. The observatory itself was a huge circular structure, with the
elevator placed in the center. The entire outer wall of the structure was
made up of plexi-glass windows, which allowed for a breath-taking view
of the entire city of Tokyo. At even intervals, pay telescope/binoculars
were positioned for a close-up look at the huge city. But, instead of the
glass and telescopes, almost every window in the observatory was destroyed,
and surrounding the area was filled with large unidentifiable pieces of
dark-colored machinery which were taking up more than half of the area
of the observatory. Each large piece was humming slightly, and connected
to every other piece by a series of large cables which raced around the
elevator column and out of sight.
"I wonder what all this is for."
softly spoke Tuxedo Mask as he stepped out. He spotted no sign of the demon
in the observatory.
"You take the left path and I'll
take the right path. Keep an eye out for the demon." Tuxedo Mask whispered
as he began to move off slowly to the right.
"Ok." returned Sailor Moon as she
began to move off towards the left. Both slowly made their way around the
curved wall that made up the elevator column. As they walked, they continued
to notice large pieces of humming metal and shattered windows. Because
of the lack of windows and the stormy weather outside, a freezing cold
wind blew through the entire observatory. Sailor Moon shivered half from
the cold and half from fright.
Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask made
it around to the other side of the observatory, where another door for
an elevator stood, without incident.
"Are you sure you that the computer
said he was up here?" spoke Sailor Moon finally.
"I'm positive. There was no mistaking
the spike in energy."
"Then where could he be?"
As if in answer to her question,
a large flash of green light flared behind Sailor Moon.
"I'm right here!" screamed the voice
of Wicki from behind Sailor Moon. He suddenly appeared next to her and
attacked before either her or Tuxedo Mask could make a move. He reached
out and grabbed her shoulder with an iron grip with his bluish hand. Sailor
Moon gasped with horror as dark energy exploded from his hand and caused
her to go stumbling backward into the arms of Tuxedo Mask.
"SAILOR MOON!" shouted Tuxedo Mask
as he raced to grab her. He took a hold of her shaky body and looked up
in time to see another blast of dark energy careening towards him. Sailor
Moon felt herself suddenly being pushed away from Tuxedo Mask with a forceful
shove. She watched Tuxedo Mask take the blast of energy with full force
as she fell. Instead of being blasted away like Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Mask
screamed in agony as the dark energy flowed into him, electrocuting him.
He slowly dropped to his knees, then to his side, screaming in pain as
the dark, fiery energy poured into him.
"Hahahahaha... I warned you, human.
Now you'll pay with your life for interfering." screamed Wicki over the
noise of the energy. As he talked, he began taking steps toward the convulsing
Tuxedo Mask, forcing more and more energy through his body.
"Nothing can stop me now! My communications
array is, even now, using your tower to broadcast a message to Lord Traquen,
informing him of the state of your civilization and culture. There is no
hope for you, and there is no hope for your planet. With any luck, you
will be his first target, and your planet will be the first to fall. "
laughed Wicki wildly as he moved another step closer. He managed to glance
at the fallen Sailor Moon, who could do nothing but watch in pain and horror
as Wicki pumped dark, deadly energy into the fallen Tuxedo Mask. He slowly
took one more step toward Tuxedo mask, paralleling him with the elevator
door. The instant he did so, the double doors to the elevator slid open.
"What--?" shouted Wicki as he noticed
the doors slid open next to him. He turned and saw a figure standing in
the elevator, crouching down.
It was Matt.
Before the demon realized what was
happening, Matt suddenly sprang from his crouch into the air. He reached
up and grabbed a hold of the top of the entrance-way to the elevator, swinging
from it feet first into the demon Wicki.
Matt shouted, in blinding fury, as
he swung out and connected with the shoulder of Wicki, causing him to stumble
backwards and stop his beam of dark energy. Matt completed the swing and
landed in the hall, almost in the exact spot where Wicki had been. He quickly
turned to face the demon, who was slightly bent over trying to regain his
balance.
"Who--?!" yelled Wicki as he attempted
to stand up straight. Matt, without hesitating, launched himself at the
demon again. He kicked out, like kicking a football, and connected with
the face-mask of the still-slightly doubled over Wicki, causing it to crack
and split. Wicki screamed in pain and gripped his face as the force from
the kick sent him stumbling backwards again. This time, though, Wicki kept
going. Matt watched, frozen with shock at what he just did, as the demon
sailed backwards through the open space where a window had once been. The
demon screaming wildly as he plunged out into the gloomy air and fell from
sight.
Matt slowly turned away from the
window, still slightly dazed by what just happened, and noticed Sailor
Moon sliding across the ground painfully to the fallen Tuxedo Mask. Matt
quickly snapped out of his trance and ran to Tuxedo Mask just as Sailor
Moon reached him. She dragged herself into a kneeling position and cradled
his head in her arms. She quickly ripped off his mask and hat. His eyes
slowly fluttered open as she held him.
"S..S..Serena..." Tuxedo Mask called
weakly. He was suddenly attacked by a coughing fit, and to the horror of
Sailor Moon and Matt, he coughed up blood.
"Darien! Oh god no... I'm here Darien!
I'm right here..." screamed Sailor Moon as she let her feelings overtake
her and began crying heavily. Matt stood over her and Tuxedo Mask and watched,
not knowing what he should do. He barely knew either of them, but he somehow
knew all the pain they felt for each other.
"P-please don't... cry, Serena It's..
it's not that bad..." whispered Tuxedo Mask, blood trickling from the corner
of his mouth. He slowly reached up and squeezed Sailor Moon's hand weakly.
"Hang on Darien! We're going to get
you out of here and to help... you just got to hang on a little longer!"
"I--I'm sorry... my princess. I-I
don't... think I'm going... going to..."
"NO!!!" shouted Sailor Moon as her
tears fell from her eyes. "Don't say that! You can't! I need you to much
for you to go. You can't leave me!"
"I... I... will try..." whispered
Tuxedo Mask as he was caught up in another coughing fit. He slowly calmed,
and looked up towards Matt. "M-Matt..."
Matt quickly dropped to his knees.
"I'm here."
"T-take... this." wheezed Tuxedo
Mask. He slowly reached up into his lapel, with the pain of the action
on his face, and pulled from it a red rose. He painfully tried to hold
it out to Matt. Matt quickly reached over and took the rose and his hand
in his own.
"M-my power... to you. My soul to...
to yours. You must protect... Sailor Moon... Serena..." whispered Tuxedo
Mask. He suddenly began to cough violently, coughing up vast amounts
of blood. The warm liquid slowly covered Sailor Moon's shaking hands as
she held his head. He shook once violently, then dropped his hand from
Matt's, leaving Matt with the rose, and closed his eyes for the final time.
"Oh... oh god no..." shouted Sailor
Moon as she reached down and pressed his limp head tightly against her
chest. She began to rock back and forth slowly. Matt looked down at the
rose he held and then up towards Sailor Moon. He had no idea what he should
do. All he could do was sit and stare helplessly at her.
"H-human...!"
Matt instantly turned. Slowly rising
from the bottom of the window space was Wicki. He slowly climbed back into
the observatory and rose shakily to his feet.
"Hahahaha! It won't be... THAT easy!"
spoke Wicki as he breathed heavily. On his face rested only half of his
face-mask. The exposed side of his face was covered entirely in a red,
blood-like liquid. His once completely straight hair was now strewn wildly
across his face and head. Matt slowly rose to his feet slowly in surprise
as the demon took a shaky step forward.
"Come, human... it's time for you...
to die!"
Matt slowly looked from the demon
to the limp figure of Tuxedo Mask cradled in Sailor Moon's arms. He looked
up to see Sailor Moon staring at him, displaying a thousand emotions at
once in her look. He slowly looked away, and down toward the rose he held.
And for the first time since he could remember, he finally saw himself
clearly. He finally saw his purpose clearly. He finally saw everything
clearly, and he finally knew what he was supposed to do. Matt looked up
at the demon again, and did something the demon never expected.
He smiled.
The demon took a step back in surprise.
As he did, Matt slowly raised the rose above his head and shouted with
all his strength.
"His power to mine! His spirit to
my own! For the safety of Sailor Moon... MOOGLE LIGHT TRANSFORMATION!!"
The rose Matt held suddenly exploded
in a blinding white light. Matt was instantly engulfed by the light as
it flared from the rose and outward. Both Wicki and Sailor Moon shielded
their eyes from the bright light as it touched everything in the area.
After a moment, the light slowly began to fade away. Wicki and Sailor Moon
turned to look at Matt. What Sailor Moon saw almost made her faint.
Matt was now standing there, in a
black tuxedo and cape.
"What the--?!" said Wicki as he stared
in confusion. Matt was now dressed identically to Tuxedo Mask. He took
a step forward and spoke in clear voice.
"I am..." shouted Matt. The name
that filled his head so clearly had no meaning for him, but he knew that
it was somehow right. In all the time he could remember, it was the only
thing that seemed to be right, even though the exact meaning of the name
was lost to him. Whatever the name meant, he knew it to be his.
"I AM TUXEDO MOOGLE!"
Wicki balked at the name, and began
to laugh dementedly.
"Your name doesn't mater to me! YOU'LL
DIE JUST THE SAME!"
"No, Demon. Not today. Not ever..."
Tuxedo Moogle yelled, thrusting his hands forward. With perfect clarity
as to what he was doing, Tuxedo Moogle suddenly shouted:
"Moogle... Star... FLARE!"
The words brought with them an explosion
of sound and energy from Tuxedo Moogle's hands. Surprising both Wicki and
Sailor Moon, a tremendous blast of fire, light, and energy sliced through
the air from Moogle's hands and slammed into Wicki with the force of a
bomb.
The effect was spectacular.
Tuxedo Moogle suddenly turned and
dived onto Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, shielding them from explosion that
followed. Over the noise of the explosion, Tuxedo Moogle heard the demon
Wicki scream one solitary shout of anger and pain. The scream was quickly
silenced as the blast engulfed Wicki completely. A moment later, all sound
died in the observatory marking the end of the demon.
Tuxedo Moogle slowly stood and turned.
Where Wicki had been, now resided a huge scorched area on the ground. Tuxedo
Moogle quickly turned back to Sailor Moon. She was looking up at him.
"Who... who are you?" she whispered,
her eyes filled with something that resembled fear.
"I..." began Tuxedo Moogle. He suddenly
stopped and stared at Sailor Moon with sorrowful eyes. "I... I really don't
know."
Before either could continue, their
conversation was suddenly cut short by the sound of an explosion from the
other side of the observatory. The explosion was quickly followed by two
more. With a look of horror, Tuxedo Moogle realized what was happening.
"Those big machines! They're blowing
up! It must be because the demon is dead. We have to get out of here, now!"
shouted Tuxedo Moogle, pointing toward one of the dark-colored machines
the demon set up. His sentence was accompanied by two more explosions,
both closer then the first. Sailor Moon suddenly snapped out of her trace
and looked down at Tuxedo Mask in her arms.
"But... we can't leave him!"
"Sailor Moon! Listen to me! We have
to go now!" shouted Tuxedo Moogle. Another explosion sounded. "We can't
help him, Sailor Moon! I'M SORRY! IT'S TOO LATE! COME ON!"
Tuxedo Moogle quickly reached down
and scooped up Sailor Moon into his arms. Realizing with horror that there
was no other way, she reluctantly let go of Tuxedo Mask. As soon as she
was in Moogle's arms, she quickly wrapped her arms around around his neck
and began to cry loudly on his shoulder. He understood the sacrifice she
just made.
Moogle quickly looked around, and
watched one of the machines near the bend behind him go up in a gigantic
blast. Moogle realized as the heat from the blast pelted him that they
were out of time. The elevator would never be able to get away in time
before the entire observatory blew. Tuxedo Moogle looked around, and realized
there was only one option.
"Sailor Moon... listen to me..."
said Moogle quickly. Sailor Moon looked up at him wordlessly. "Do you trust
me?"
Sailor Moon paused for a moment,
then suddenly realized what he was asking. She quietly laid her head back
down and wrapped her arms tighter. Tuxedo Moogle took that as a 'yes'.
"HOLD ON, SAILOR MOON!" shouted Moogle
as he dropped his head and ran in a head-long charge. A second after he
had began to move, the machine next to where he had been standing exploded.
Tuxedo Moogle felt the heat scorching his back, but he continued to move
at fast as he could while holding Sailor Moon.
"HANG ON, SAILOR MOON! HANG ON!"
Moogle screamed as he bent his legs. With all his power, he suddenly leapt
into the air and sailed out the window that Wicki had fallen out of. As
he sailed out into the air and into the darkened air, Tuxedo Moogle realized
that he had just made it.
The observatory blew up behind him.
****
Tuxedo Moogle watched as damp,
cold air rushed past him and Sailor Moon. He prayed that his plan was going
to work, or staying in the observatory might have been a better decision
than the one he just made.
"Come on! See us!" shouted Moogle
as he continued to fall. Before he could say another word, however, the
rest of his plan fell into place just as he had hoped.
Moogle watched as a yellow chain
of energy suddenly shot up from below him and wrapped itself around him
and Sailor Moon. Tuxedo Moogle gave a small cry of relief as his decent
slowed to that of a feather's. The energy chain that surrounded him lightly
brought him down to the ground and let him go a foot from the surface.
Moogle landed gracefully and recradled the weak Sailor Moon in his arms.
He could hear her muffled cries on his shoulder as he watched the Sailor
Scouts, Luna, and Artemis came up to him as fast as their hurt bodies would
let them.
"Thanks for the lift... Sailor Venus?"
spoke Tuxedo Moogle, trying to remember the names the group had give him
when they had regained consciousness. Even as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask's
elevator had left, the Scouts had awakened. He had made introductions and
was tending to their wounds when the sound of energy had erupted from the
tower. Since he was the only one capable of moving easily at the time,
he had rushed to the other elevator of the tower and went after Sailor
Moon and Tuxedo Mask.
"MATT?! Is that you? What the--?"
"Matt? What's going on? Where's Tuxedo
Mask?" asked Luna next, asking the questions that were on everyone's minds.
Tuxedo Moogle had still not gotten used to a talking cat. He couldn't believe
his eyes when Luna had joined in on the introductions Matt had made with
the Sailor Scouts. He was surprised twice to find that the white cat also
talked.
"It's a long story... Luna?" Tuxedo
Moogle replied somberly, looking to see if he got Luna's name right. A
solitary nod told him he had.
"What about Tuxedo Mask? Is he alright?
Where is he?"
Tuxedo Moogle looked down and lowered
his voice to a choked whisper.
"No... he... he didn't make it."
"Oh my god..." Venus whispered, her
eyes filling with tears like the others.
Tuxedo Moogle slowly raised his head
and turned to the sky, which was beginning to clear. The moon was slowly
shining over the clouds as they began to disperse. He sighed once, and
whispered silently back to the group, slowly rubbing the back of the distraught
Sailor Moon: "I guess I should start at the beginning..."
Tuxedo Moogle slowly turned to face
the group.
"It all began late last night...
on a small hill outside the city..."
