MY FAVORITE CHINESE SINGERS
Continued....
Valen Hsu may be the most emotional singer in chinese pop today.  I never heard of her before this year, and now that I have I am surprised she is not more popular.  Her songs convey their emotions so clearly, from the wistfulness of many of her ballads, to the happiness of her ballad with Panda. (one of the more uplifting slow songs I've ever seen)  Valen is probably one of the best kept secrets in chinese music today, not having the success she is capable of.

Sammi Cheng is the most popular female singer in Hong Kong. With her movie career beginning to take shape as well, Sammi will only get bigger.  The time Sammi changed companies was one of the biggest stories of Hong Kong at the time.  In order to maximize their profits, her former company released 5 albums to compete with the 2 or 3 from the new company.  This was in the span of a few months!  And all sold well, no doubt.

A-Mei has quickly become the most popular singer in Taiwan in the span of just a few short years.  She reminds me a bit of Mariah Cary in her singing style, power ballads with extremely memorable / powerful choruses.  She is a bit of a victim of her own success, her fantastic (maybe one of the 10 best cd's I own) first album leading to expectations which are almost impossible to meet.  (Her last few albums have not come close to matching the first one.)  However, as such a young singer, A-Mei's problems are ones any singer would be thrilled to have.

Jacky Cheung is the best male singer in Hong Kong today, and possibly one of the best in the world.  Period. His moving voice helps power the songs he sings.  One of the most impressive feats he did was his run of "Snow Wolf Lake", a musical he wrote, directed and starred in.  Some of the music in that is quite impressive.  Whatever Jacky does next, it will surely be something even greater.

Cass Peng has the best voice of any female singer I have ever heard. Her voice is incredibly powerful.  She sings "I want to run to you", a Whitney Houston songs BETTER than the original, hitting all the same notes Whitney did.  Anyone who has ever heard that song can tell you how impressive that is.  If Cass had better songwriters and a better variety of songs, she could be the best female singer out there.

There are many, many other artists I listen to, like Priscilla Chan, Amanda Lee, Sally Yeh, Denise Ruan, Andy Hui, Daniel Chan, Kwong Leung & Bun Koon, Panda Xiong, etc.
