Episode #19 Raijuta's Desire. Vision of a Forbidden Empire.
In the beginning, there are the Kenshin-gumi. They go to Izu to stay with Genzai-sensei's sister, who bears a remarkable (and somewhat scary) resemblence to him. She takes them to meet Yutaro, the boy that owns all of the property in the area. Yutaro is a total brat and tells Kenshin to teach him budo (because the kid really DOES want to learn...he just doesn't know how to ask nice)...which pisses Yahiko off. Yahiko jumps on him, and Yutaro kicks them out of the house, then goes off riding, in a snit. A bunch of rabble jump on him and attempt to "kidnap" him. The Kenshin-gumi run to rescue the boy, but before Kenshin can even jump into the fray, a huge guy with scary eyebrows (Raijuta) shows up and kills most of the would-be kidnappers. (The kidnapping is a fake set up by Raijuta so he can rescue the kid.) Yutaro looks at Raijuta with stars in his eyes and chooses him as his budo teacher. Raijuta accepts. Later, at Yutaro's mansion, Raijuta takes the boy's shinai away and breaks it, then tosses it in the fire. He gives the boy a real katana instead, telling him that in his budo, Shinko Ryu, it's either kill or be killed...and then 3 other samurai appear. Meanwhile, the Kenshin-gumi is having a fine time, eating, sleeping, and other such things. They go to a hot springs, and while they're all soaking, Genzai-sensei's sister mentions that Raijuta isn't a great guy...and that his budo is called Shinko Ryu. Kenshin leaps up (forgetting that he's uh..."sans clothing") and runs over to the women, saying that he has to save Yutaro. 0_0 Eyeful. Lucky girls. Later, Yutaro is practicing on the cliffs with his sword and Kenshin shows up. Kenshin is his normal sweet self to Yutaro...then Raijuta and his stooges show up. Raijuta tells Yutaro to leave, then asks Kenshin to fight with them, because he plans to take over the valley and make it his kingdom, since it's in a very sheltered, naturally protected valley. Kenshin refuses, and the other samurai attack him. In the middle of the fight, Yutaro gets knocked off the cliff and into the sea. Kenshin is pinned and unable to help him...
Episode #20 Shinko Ryu's Revived! Show of Evil, Ultimate Killing Technique!
Kenshin's eyes turn yellow (EEEEEK!) and he quickly beats the snot out of the guys attacking him...then dives into the ocean after Yutaro. The next morning, he shows up at the house where the Kenshin-gumi are staying, soaking wet, with Yutaro in his arms. When Yutaro is up and about, he thanks Kenshin, but informs him that he's going back to Raijuta. Yahiko gives him a ration of crap about being such an ingrate, and then challenges Yutaro. Yahiko then proceeds to beat him. Several times. Then he just walks away, saying that Yutaro can leave once he beats "this Sensei." Kaoru offers to teach Yutaro, and he says yes...and then you get into Rocky: Part 20 or whatever for a while. Yutaro improves quickly, to the point that you can ee Yahiko is getting a little nervous. Meanwhile, Raijuta is gathering more warriors, planning his kingdom...and while that is going on, the army is gathering at the edges of the valley. The Kenshin-gumi are having a fishing trip/picnic lunch when Yutaro remembers that he left his shinai at the house...so he goes back to get it...and meets a policeman there. The police guy spills the plans to him, and he runs off toward the house. The policeman quickly finds Kenshin after that, and tells him that he told Yutaro, and the Kenshin-gumi runs for the house as well. The battle begins as Yutaro arrives, swords against guns. The Kenshin-gumi keep running toward the house, desperate to stop the battle...
Episode #21 The Nightmare Falls Apart! Raijuta's Dream.
The Kenshin-gumi arrives and Kenshin leaps into action. He yells for everyone to stop...and miracle of miracles, they do. Well...who WOULDN'T listen to Kenshin yelling? Anyway...he declares that HE will fight and defeat Raijuta, and until then, the fighting WILL stop. The army declares a truce and Kenshin goes running off in search of Raijuta. Yutaro has gotten there first. Raijuta uses the Izuna (air cutting thingy) against Kenshin, which startles him a little...but it horrifies Yutaro. The boy yells at Raijuta, saying that Kenshin saved his life and they shouldn't fight...and then he stands in front of Kenshin. Raijuta uses the Izuna again, and it goes through Yutaro's arm, cutting it. Sanosuke and Kaoru leave to take him to Megumi, but Yahiko stays behind, to watch Kenshin beat Raijuta for Yutaro. Kenshin is PISSED. He dodges all but one of Raijuta's Izunas (though one cuts his kimono in half and you get to see half of Kenshin's chest... :) ...the last one scratches him. Raijuta is all "YES!" but Kenshin just looks at the little cut on his wrist, and says (and I love this) "Are you happy? For a scratch? For this nasty little scratch, I will..." and then kicks Raijuta's ass. He gets back, only to find that the muscle and bone of Yutaro's right arm have been severed by the Izuna, and that he'll never hold a sword with his right hand again. Everyone is depressed about this. Yahiko is angry, and Yutaro is heartbroken. Because of this, Yutaro decides to go to Germany, to live with his uncle. As he's getting on the ship, Yahiko attacks him, and Yutaro fights him off with his crutch, using his left hand. Then he gets on the ship and sails away...a happy ending.
Episode #23 Betrayed by Sanosuke?! Greetings of Fate.
Tae asks Sanosuke to buy her a Nishki-e picture (Tsubame also asks...it's so cute. This began my theory of why Sanosuke would make a good father). At the shop, Sanosuke meets up with Kenshin and Kaoru...then notices that one of the pictures is of Boss Sagara (from the Sekihou-tai, in case you forgot). He looks at the artist's signature and demand to know where he can find Tsukioka (that's what the artist's name was). The shopkeeper enlightens him, and he goes to the next town, stopping in front of a house. He knocks...first time, no answer. The second time, he POUNDS, and yells "Sekihou-tai Tsukioka Katsuhiro!" This gets a response. Katsu (Oh! The angels have sung! My God enters!) opens the door...and he and Sano are reunited. Katsu tells Sano about how he's been planning the demise of the Meiji government for the last 10 years, making bombs with which to blow up some key buildings. He then asks Sano to join him...because he'll be striking soon. Sano doesn't really agree with Katsu's philosphy...but...you can tell he's thinking about it. Meanwhile, there is a group of robbers that are calling themselves the Sekihou-tai hitting a lot of shops in the area, robbing them and killing people...and leaving the Nishki-e picture of Boss Sagara behind as a calling card. They're run by the guy that killed off the real Sekihou-tai. Sano and Katsu find out about this (albeit seperately) and set out to track the fakes down. Sanosuke finds them first and starts kicking ass. Katsu arrives shortly thereafter, using bombs to take out some more badguys. (The way he uses bombs is cool. They come out of his sleeves, and he lights them between two bands on his fingers.) They finish wupping on the fakes, and then escape before the police show up. Just before they go their separate ways, Sanosuke tells Katsu that he wants to help him destroy the Meiji government.
