Interests! Paleontology: i can't remember how long i've wanted to be a paleontologist. all i know is that i've held my chosen profession for as long as i can remember. some say i was 2 years old. others say i was 4. i'll take 3. when i was young i had a very nice middle-reader's book about dinosaurs, with full color illustrations. of course i waxified it's semi-gloss pages with un-identifiable masterpieces then tore them out for no apparent reason. i destryed many a cook book that way, as well. i was a dinosaur freak; i memorized names and facts when i started out. then i actually learned about adaptations, families, social structure, evolution, Cenezoic, Paleozoic, history of the science, and the rest of the real stuff. Paleontology is the study of any lifeforms form prehistory, and their world, life, and connection to present day, so it's difficult to explain it to people. i try to tell them without the word "dinosaur" because it's so narrow. i'm not sure why i chose paleontology. it's not glamorous, not high-payi, but hte thought of sweating and toiling with dust in my eyes in the desert nad finding tiny bones and boring clues does not seem bad. i imagine finding breakthrough egg fragment or nests. my most recent interests are in theory on social/familial constructions. it seems very rewarding. Evolution: closely related to paleontolgy, but i keep it kind of separate in my mind. Darwin is a favorite icon of mine. i'm very into speculating on the evolution of human consciousness (and this crazy stuff ties into my beliefs, too...) Art: i spend a lot of time drawing in anime style. i also paint; watercolor is my favorite paint and i can barely handle oil! the best medium to do ANY art in has to be make up. eyeshadow and other powders supply better shade and distribution than anything i know. scene-wise: i like oriental and impressionist very best. the coolest paintings i've seen would be whistler's ones of women in kimono. the idea of european people in asian garb is heartening to me, being an asian-obsessed european woman! goal: my goal in art is to create something beautiful, which is VERY VERY hard for me to do. i draw almost solely women, often faces. i sometimes do flowers, but never in vases. my room is full of my own artwork, and some pieces made of various pretty things i collect. i want to surround myself in beauty. Activities! violin: i've played the violin since i was 5 years old (is my use of numerals in writing bothering you?:). i really started enjoying it AFTER i quit taking lessons and doing organized gigs. when you get to a certain point in music, everyone thinks you're going to spend all your time with it. NOT TRUE. i have many other interests (as you know), so i cannot devote my time solely to something that doesn't make me happy. my li'l sister plays piano, cello, flute, and almost guitar, so sometimes i feel less than well rounded, but she's a delight. Show Choir, Symphonic Choir: i'm not an amazing singer, but i've always loved it. since both are performance groups, i get to wear MAKE UP which i never do (i go for the natural look; i figure, if i can pick up guys w/out it, why wear it?). Cross Country: i'm not a great runner, but i like it. unfortunately, i'm too booked this year to take part. all i have to do is notify the coach... Going To The Local Water Park: i have a season pass. it's all i ever do now ugh. Pondering Life's Questions: i keep myself awake at night thinking. Being a Vegetarian: i only do this for health reasons. in fact, i still eat seafood, but not much, for all i like is tuna, sardines, and anchovies. Watching TV: you should try it! Gaining Weight: it goes well w/ tv... Crying: i do this a hell of a lot! usually it's for no real reasons, or because i feel alone in the world. sometimes it's because i'm so happy. little things make me cry. i used to never cry, but i think i'm a much different person than i used to be. |
