Lost Valley: A Slayers/Pokémon Crossover
"How much farther do we have to walk?" Amelia whined for the seventeenth time that morning. Zelgadis answered with a sound halfway between a growl and a sigh. True, they'd been traveling for several hours, and he personally had no clue where they were headed...but so long as they were on the road, Zel really didn't care. Wandering aimlessly was better than sitting in a tavern talking about what they were going to do.
"Geez, Amelia!" Lina snapped, whirling on the princess. "How many times do I have to explain this? We're looking for the Lost Valley--a dimensional warp that's supposed to contain things this world has never seen!" Her ruby eyes glittered with the prospect of treasure.
"So?" the younger girl retorted. "That still doesn't tell me how far we have to walk to get there."
Lina's eyes narrowed and she growled...not a good sign.
"Um, Lina...Amelia kinda has a point," Gourry stated. "We have been walking for a while...My feet are starting to hurt."
Lina and Zelgadis both glared at the other two; they wanted to keep moving, but each for different reasons. The sorceress, looking at her guardian's blue puppy-dog eyes, was the first to give in.
"Alright, alright. We'll rest for a few minutes, but then we gotta get moving, okay?" Gourry and Amelia both collapsed onto the grass with grateful sighs.
"What are we looking for, anyway?" the chimera prompted his companion, giving the redhead a nudge as he sat down. "What's so special about this little hidden dimension?"
Lina grinned. "Its supposed to be the home of some unknown colony of creatures...animal-like things with special powers. I've only heard a little about them," she added, rubbing the back of her head.
Typical, Zel thought. Running into things headfirst, not really knowing what she's getting herself into. Although, he knew better than to try and talk her out of it, especially since she had that gleam in her eye--the one that meant 'get between Lina and her treasure and die.' And maybe, just maybe, he would find what he'd been searching for, too.
Xellos hovered behind the weary group, just out of sight, eavesdropping on his favorite little band of adventurers. "Magical animals? Hmm. This just might prove to be interesting!" The Trickster chuckled to himself. Lina was always stirring up some kind of trouble, er--fun. As the travelers moved on, he secretly followed, thinking how this might just be the amusement he needed.
"There it is!" Lina crowed from atop Gourry's broad shoulders. "I can see the dimensional rift from here!" She pointed frantically eastward, her flailing motions knocking Gourry off-balance. The swordsman landed in the dirt in an undignified heap. Lina came down on her feet neatly, without a scratch.
"Lina!" Gourry whined. "How come I always end up on my face in the dirt while you get away without a single scratch?"
" 'Cause, I'm the all-powerful sorceress Lina Inverse!" She struck a pose before continuing. "And you're the sidekick. You know, comic relief and all that. Yadda yadda... Hey Amelia, whaddaya think you're doing?!"
The princess was poking at the dusky edges of the rift with a curious finger. "I'm only trying to see--Aaaaah!" She shrieked suddenly as the rift widened and began pulling her inside. "Miss Lina, help!"
"Geez, Amelia, you always do this," Lina complained as she grabbed hold of her wrist and pulled in the opposite direction. "I can't do this on my own!" she admitted before yelling, "Hey sidekick! Get over here and lend a hand, will ya?!" Gourry ran over to the girls and added his strength...Unfortunately, he had grabbed Lina by the waist. She, of course, screamed and proceeded to beat him with one hand. "Gourry! How dare you take advantage of the situation like this! When I get Amelia out of this thing, I'm gonna Fireball your butt into next year!"
Zelgadis, meanwhile, stood off to the side, sweatdropping. Always the voice of reason, he strolled as casually as he could to the struggling trio (who, coincidentally were not winning their improvised tug-of-war) and remarked in a dry voice, "Lina, isn't this the dimensional rift that connects this world to the one we've been searching for?"
The redhead shrieked. "Of course it is!"
"Then why continue along your current course of action when it would make more sense to just be sucked in?" the chimera continued.
Lina just stared at him.
That split second it took her to react the Zel's question was all it took--the group was pulled inside the rift, three of them screaming hysterically and the fourth sighing, wondering once again how he always got stuck with Lina's little band.
Ever cheerful, the Trickster smiled, still hidden, and followed just as the rift healed itself over. Oh yes, this was going to be fun.
Life in Lost Valley was peaceful. And quiet. And boring.
Pikachu walked through the tall grass of Tauros Meadow, parting the thick blades with its stubby paws as it passed through. Sometimes, I think its too peaceful here. Nothing exciting ever happens, it mused. Talk about a boring existence. Little did the yellow mouse know, but its life was about to be turned upside-down.
"Tuff! Tuff!"
A pink and white blur ran past to Pikachu's right, leaving grass swaying violently in its wake.
"Pika?" The pokémon queried, cocking its head to the side. It waved its paws and yelled towards the diminishing blur that had passed it. "Pikachu! Pika!"
"Wiggly!" it replied, turning back towards Pikachu.
(Now, since we have NO IDEA what they're saying, for intensive purposes, I'm translating poké-speech into English.)
"Hey! What's going on? Why the big rush?" Pikachu queried, running up to the Wigglytuff, who panted with exertion.
"You're not gonna believe this, but I just saw a big hole open up in the sky?"
"A big hole? What do you mean?"
"The sky just split, like it was cut open, and something fell out!" The poor Wigglytuff looked visibly shaken.
"Where? I didn't see anything like that."
Wigglytuff pointed back the way it had come. "Over there. I saw where the thing fell, but I didn't go look."
"Well, why don't we go see what it was?" Pikachu replied, unafraid.
Wigglytuff dropped its ears to it's sides and looked unsure.
"How bad can it be?" Pikachu grinned. "I can always Thundershock it if it turns out to be dangerous."
"True."
There was a moment of silence as the pink pokémon thought it over. Pikachu waited patiently for its friend to make its decision.
"Yeah, I guess its not gonna kill me to go find out what that thing was. Lets go!"
"Lead the way!" the electric mouse told it, and fear replaced with curiosity, the two pokémon headed south to meet whatever it was Fate had in store for them.
It was the disturbance in the atmosphere that brought the Guardian out of its deep slumber. Slowly it woke, stretching limbs not used for years before attempting to discover the source of its discomfort. The Portal, it thought, turning its head in the direction the dimensional rift had been, though it could not been seen. Something has found its way here... After these decades of solitude...
The Guardian stretched its psychic awareness over the land, pinpointing the intruders where they lay scattered across the dimension. Humans. Hmm. Let's see what they're up to, shall we? it chuckled to itself. Humans can be interesting to a point, but let's just hope they don't have any ideas about removing the residents.
It settled in to observe the newcomers, calm, but ready to evict the uninvited visitors at a moment's notice.
Gourry came to, rubbing his head and sitting up slowly. "Oh, man, what happened?" One minute I'm getting beaten by Lina and now--" He stood and looked around. "Lina? Hey, Lina!" he yelled, his voice lost among the weeds of the open plain. "Lina! Amelia! Zelgadis!" His friends were nowhere to be found.
Gourry looked back up at the sky, but the black hole they had come through was also missing. Did it eat them? He wondered. What if it did?! He tried to control the rising fear in his stomach. If the thing had eaten Lina... No, she was here, somewhere. He had to find her! With that, he set off through the tall grass, determined, in search of his friends.
So determined, in fact, that he didn't see the large bull-like creature until he ran smack into it.
The Tauros raised its head and waved its horns menacingly, bellowing. It didn't like being bumped into. And apparently, the rest of its herd didn't like its members getting bumped into, either.
Gourry turned tail and ran for all he was worth, yelling all the way. "LIIIIIIIIIINNAAAAAAAA! SAVE ME!!!!"
Author's Notes:
This is my first attempt at a crossover fic, and since I'd never seen a Slayers/Pokemon crossover, I figured I'd give it a try. I've got more of this written, but I want to see what everyone thinks before I'll post the rest of it. Feedback is always appreciated!
